Moves
========

Pursuit allows Metagross to trap Psychic-types such as Alakazam, Latios, Latias, and Celebi, and Meteor Mash is Metagross's most powerful STAB move and has decent neutral coverage. Bullet Punch is necessary to allow Metagross to pick off weakened Pokemon such as Choice Scarf Tyranitar, Gengar, Latios, Latias, Mega Gardevoir, Hoopa-U, Terrakion, and Tornadus-T. Earthquake has good coverage alongside Meteor Mash, allowing Metagross to hit Pokemon such as Heatran, opposing Metagross, Magnezone, and Jirachi and preventing it from being setup bait for Mega Charizard X. Zen Headbutt can be used to allow Metagross to deal extra damage to Pokemon such as Keldeo, Talonflame, and Mega Venusaur. Hammer Arm is another option that still hits Heatran but also allows Metagross to threaten Spikers such as Ferrothorn and specially defensive Skarmory, which both use Metagross as setup bait. Ice Punch can be used to deal extra damage to Garchomp and Landorus-T, but it isn't usually worth the loss of Meteor Mash, Zen Headbutt, or Hammer Arm.

Set Details
========

252 HP and 96 Special Defense EVs prevent Mega Alakazam's Shadow Ball from 2HKOing Metagross even after Stealth Rock damage. The remaining EVs are placed into Attack to help Metagross hit as hard as possible. Assault Vest allows Metagross to easily switch into Fairy- and Psychic-types and threaten them with Meteor Mash or Pursuit. Clear Body lets Metagross avoid stat drops from the likes of Mega Manectric and Landorus-T. 8 Speed EVs can be run to outspeed standard Belly Drum Azumarill.

Usage Tips
========

Metagross should be used as an offensive switch-in to the likes of Latios, which Metagross can Pursuit trap easily, as it avoids the 2HKO even from Hidden Power Fire variants. If you predict Latios to stay in, use Meteor Mash instead, which puts it in KO range for Bullet Punch. Metagross should also be used to offensively check Fairy-types such as Clefable and Mega Gardevoir, though this is riskier, as they can heavily cripple Metagross with Thunder Wave and Will-O-Wisp. Metagross is also a good offensive answer to the likes of Mega Alakazam, as it can switch into any of its moves, with Shadow Ball being unable to 2HKO Metagross, and trap it with Pursuit + Bullet Punch. However, Life Orb Alakazam is capable of 2HKOing Metagross.

Team Options
========

Assault Vest Metagross performs best as a tank on offensive and balance teams, as it easily switches into the Pokemon that threaten these playstyles. Pokemon weak to Psychic-type moves such as Mega Venusaur and Keldeo appreciate Metagross's ability to trap Psychic-types for them, while Keldeo can check most Ground- and Fire-types that trouble Metagross. Landorus-T can handle the Pokemon that threaten Metagross such as Garchomp, opposing Landorus-T, and Excadrill. It can also run Hidden Power Ice, which makes handling Garchomp and opposing Landorus-T easier. Garchomp punishes physical attackers such as Bisharp and can run Fire Blast to scare off Skarmory and Ferrothorn.

Common Pokemon on balance or offensive teams such as Hippowdon, Slowbro, Ferrothorn, Clefable, Azumarill, Landorus-T, Latias, and Mega Sableye can all find themselves heavily pressured by Mega Gardevoir, so they all appreciate Metagross being able to switch in and force it out or OHKO it. Metagross also appreciates Thunder Wave support from Clefable, as it slows down threats such as Kyurem-B, Mega Lopunny, and Heatran, which makes it easier for Metagross to pick them off, and it appreciates Hippowdon walling threats that can overwhelm it such as Bisharp, Mega Charizard X, and non-Swords Dance Excadrill. Metagross also functions as an alternate Pursuit trapper compared to Tyranitar or Bisharp, as it still supports Pokemon such as Thundurus, Keldeo, and Mega Charizard Y in addition to being able to switch into common Fairy-types, unlike the two Dark-types. Metagross also offers very solid role compression for offensive teams, as it beats Latios and also checks Mega Venusaur very well, so it works well with the likes of Keldeo, Thundurus lacking Psychic or Hidden Power Flying, and Breloom. It also works well alongside Ferrothorn, Dragalge, Skarmory, and Hippowdon, as it can help keep heavy entry hazard pressure on the opposing team by removing common Defog users such as Latios and Latias. Pairing Metagross with other Pokemon that can Mega Evolve such as Gyarados, Scizor, Alakazam, Latias, Tyranitar, and Slowbro provides a lot of surprise factor and can force your opponent to play guessing games, which can affect the outcome of the game if they expect Mega Metagross over any of the other Mega Evolutions.

I think this is ready for QC, though usage tips feel a bit vague but there really isn't much to it apart from switch into psychics/fairies (and not get para'd/wisp'd) and get rid of them for your team. Same with team options but it's just really pairing it with mons thats don't like psychics or fairies

i'm doing my job, praise me

i would like to draw some debate about the spread. while i do not think max speed adamant azumarill is a bad set (making it a decent speed benchmark to aim for in theory), no "official" azumarill spread runs this much speed, so for the sake of consistency amongst analyses, i would rather this be set aside as a mention, rather than on the main spread. personally, i was giving some thought to this, and i feel as though the most concise spread to go w/here would be 252 hp / 160 atk / 96 spd @ adamant. the extra spdef insures that m-zam's shadow ball will never 2hko after sr, disallowing it from tryna get cute w/rolls. /technically/, these aren't supposed to encourage speed creep, but given 177 is the usual threshold for more aggressive azu sets, and you really do wanna be outpacing them, a strong mention of that information wouldn't hurt in the comments, alongside the ones about 96 spe evs. i think hammer arm > eq is a pretty decent option for teams that don't wanna be conceding spikes as easily, since eq gross is major spikes-bait and hammer arm pressures ferro and keeps skarm [moreso spdef] from roosting on this for free by merit of speed drops.

also, idk how much of a lando / exca check chomper is tbh, p.sure it only really switches into spdef drill decently, and landog is a losing mu for it that sometimes it gets away w/dtailing out for ~35% on its end. maybe landog would be a slightly more apt pick here, given it can splurge for hp ice > edge on occasion and it isn't in such a precarious position v.grounds (still loses to bish, but these types of teams can generally splash a keld really easy). speaking of, this is a cool alt pursuiter to ttar in terms of supporting stuff like lefties np thund, zard-y, and so forth, so maybe that's worth mentioning? i guess i just don't love amoonguss as a mention, b.c it's not like it's 100% free turns to psychics (can threaten stun spore, if not spore, since its not like you're playing av meta stall).

maybe #1 av 'gross user sugarhigh would like to input, but honestly this looks solid. gj dood

thanks, implemented all this. just one thing regarding Hammer Arm, should I leave it in moves or slash it?

honestly, it's your digression. perhaps some other qc members have a stronger opinion one way or another, but i can see either being justified

Lol i love this set probably one of the main sets i like to whore on. You got most of the points down for this set. Stuff I would like to see added is that AV metagross can check mega venu p well in many cases. This is a pretty good boon for offense for compression and to have an extra check to those really annoying balance venu teams. I would like to see zen headbutt in the other moves mainly if your team doesnt need the ground coverage the secondary stab is p nice to have. I would also like you to mention when you talk about earthquake on av metagross its p good at checking charx from setting up on it for free and can prevent it from sweeping which is great since you dont want a mon as set up fodder lol. I would mention to pair it with other possible megas to confuse the opponent and make it easier to pursuit trap and to have suprise factor.

So all in all great analysis just wud add:
zen headbutt in other move options (hits talon/venu etc etc)
Checks Mega venu v well (gr8 for teams that are hard pressed for space for extra venu checks)
Eq deters charx from setting up on it
Pairing with other possible megas for suprise factor and to net more pursuit kills.
Oh and I would also add garchomp as a good partner to it defensively just like lando-t in checking the same mons but also has access to fire coverage to scare out ferrothorns n such.

Cool analysis tho gr8 mon.

the biggest gain of using zen is to hit keldeo; that should be the first thing mentioned for it.

ok, ty im writing this up now

edit: i just realized that 176 Atk EVs hit a jump point, is it worth investing for or is it not possible to achieve that AND be able to survive 2 SBalls from Mega Zam after SR?

The closest I can get is 224 HP / 108 SpD which has a 0.4% for MegaZam to 2HKO after SR while still hitting the jump point. but really 0.4% is such a small chance I'll just go with that unless someone says otherwise.

252 SpA Mega Alakazam Shadow Ball vs. 164 HP / 168 SpD Assault Vest Metagross: 134-158 (39.1 - 46.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock

This spread is the best I could find while retaining that 176 Atk benchmark so unless it needs more HP for something this might be worth using.

EDIT: Found this too but it gives up too much HP imo

252 SpA Mega Alakazam Shadow Ball vs. 92 HP / 240 SpD Assault Vest Metagross: 124-148 (38.2 - 45.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock

well thing is jump point is like ~1% extra more dmg and cutting hp would end in ~2-3% less physical bulk (think ss from keld as an example, and more relevant in practice than may look). since m-zam sball is the main focal i dont see why would u compromise by going for a jump point. they're fine if u can afford them but diff is not huge in practice if there's no real aim for them. 49's spread is fine

just imo

Put Keldeo first as Zen Headbutt target when you mention it in moves. I'd also like you to change the line in usage tips about Mega Alakazam's Shadow Ball having a minuscule chance to 2HKO, to saying it has no chance 2HKOing even after rocks because the spread changed to reach that benchmark.
Metagross also appreciates Thunder Wave support from Clefable, it appreciates Hippowdown walling threats that can overwhelm Metagross, and it helps Ferrothorn maintain pressure with Spikes by removing Defog users such as Latios.
Lumping these together makes this sentence hard to read and makes no sense. Please separate them. Specify why Twave support from Clef is good for Metagross and clarify what threats that overwhelm Metagross that is able to Hippowdon check.

Haund, that check was actually more than a little decent lol, couple things that stood out though:
Ice Punch can be used to deals extra damage to Garchomp and Landorus-T, but isn't usually worth it for the loss of Meteor Mash, Zen Headbutt, or Hammer Arm.
Don't remove fluff unless it actually is fluff, in this case "can be used" adds plenty to the sentence because it's an (even unslashed) alternate option instead of just another main move, and removing that bit removes that nuance and makes it read as a list someone has removed the bullet points from.
Metagross is also a good offensive answer to the likes of Mega Alakazam, as you it can switch into any of Mega Alakazam's moves, with Shadow Ball being unable to 2HKO, and trap it with Pursuit + Bullet Punch.
Disregarding whether it's actually necessary to make this chance (because apart from you -> it the sentence is honestly fine as is imo), don't introduce repetition of "Mega Alakazam" please :[
otherwise mostly minor things so just read over my changes (apologies for the colour coding cause I didn't get to work on top of yours :T) and hmu if you've got any questions

Metagross also appreciates Thunder Wave support from Clefable, as it slows down threats such as Kyurem-B, Mega Lopunny, and Heatran, which makes it easier for Metagross to pick them off, (comma) and it appreciates Hippowdown Hippowdon walling threats that can overwhelm Metagross it such as Bisharp, Mega Charizard X, and non-Swords (add hyphen) Dance Excadrill. Metagross also helps Ferrothorn maintain pressure with Spikes by removing Defog users such as Latios. (also stated later) Metagross also functions as an alternate Pursuit trapper compared to Tyranitar or Bisharp, as it still supports Pokemon such as Thundurus, Keldeo, and Mega Charizard Y, while also in addition to being able to switch into common Fairy-types, unlike the two aforementioned Pursuit trappers Dark-types. Metagross also offers very solid role compression for offensive teams, (AC) as it beats Latios (RC) and also checks Mega Venusaur very well, so it works well with the likes of Keldeo, Thundurus lacking Psychic or Hidden Power Flying, and Breloom. It also works well alongside Ferrothorn, Dragalge, Skarmory, and Hippowdon, (AC) as it can help keep heavy entry hazard pressure on the opposing team with entry hazard stacking by removing common Defog users such as Latios and Latias. Pairing Metagross with other Pokemon that can Mega Evolve such as Gyarados, Scizor, Alakazam, Latias, Tyranitar, and Slowbro has provides a lot of surprise factor and can force your opponent to play guessing games, which can affect the outcome of the game if they expect Mega Metagross over any of the aforementioned other Mega Evolutions.
Haund, that check was actually more than a little decent lol, couple things that stood out though:Don't remove fluff unless it actually is fluff, in this case "can be used" adds plenty to the sentence because it's an (even unslashed) alternate option instead of just another main move, and removing that bit removes that nuance and makes it read as a list someone has removed the bullet points from.Disregarding whether it's actually necessary to make this chance (because apart from you -> it the sentence is honestly fine as is imo), don't introduce repetition of "Mega Alakazam" please :[
otherwise mostly minor things so just read over my changes (apologies for the colour coding cause I didn't get to work on top of yours :T) and hmu if you've got any questions
ty, implemented

ready for the last check

Hammer Arm is another option that still hits Heatran but also allows Metagross to threaten users of Spikers such as Ferrothorn and specially defensive Skarmory, which both use Metagross as setup bait. Ice Punch can be used to deal extra damage to Garchomp and Landorus-T, but it isn't usually worth the loss of Meteor Mash, Zen Headbutt, or Hammer Arm.

252 HP and 96 SpD Special Defense EVs prevent Mega Alakazam's Shadow Ball from 2HKOing Metagross even after Stealth Rock damage. The remaining EVs are placed into Attack to help Metagross hit as hard as possible. Assault Vest allows Metagross to easily switch into Fairy- and Psychic-types and threaten them with Meteor Mash or Pursuit. Clear Body is the better ability, as it lets Metagross avoids stat drops from the likes of Mega Manectric and Landorus-T, while Light Metal provides only highly situational benefits. (not really a necessary bit imo) 8 Speed EVs can be run to outspeed standard Belly Drum Azumarill.

Usage Tips
========

========

Assault Vest Metagross performs best as a tank on offensive and balanced teams, as it easily switches into the Pokemon that threaten the these playstyles. It can also run Hidden Power Ice, (AC) which makes handling Garchomp and opposing Landorus-T easier. Garchomp punishes physical attackers such as Bisharp and can run Fire Blast to scare off Skarmory and Ferrothorn.

Sorry to reply after this is done but you should add Rotom-W to team options, they have pretty nice synergy together and Volt Switch is great for bringing Gross in vs Latis Venus etc.
