Metallica's New Album: Death Magnetic

As some of you are aware, Metallica is releasing a new album September 12th.Today I listened to the single "The Day That Never Comes Comes", and I was impressed...to a point. I liked it...but I want more.

If you've listened to the single "One" (heh, that seems redundant), you might "feel" some similarities between the two. Friend of mine felt a drop of Dragonforce was mixed into this.

I have heard this is one of their calmer songs...if the others sound good and intense...woohoo!

Of course, my love will always be with the classics.

It's in standard tuning. And it doesn't really resemble One, it resembles songs like Fade To Black and Motorbreath a lot more...it's basically a rehash of everything that made people like Metallica. Thoroughly uninspired and awful production, though.

Its a very good song, but its no puppets
MetallicA is a great band,great,but is a comercial band.Period
I'm a fan of MetallicA(as you can see,my username is a deformation of the Enter Sandman chorus(We're off to neverland))but i dont deny the fact that metallica is comercial...
Well,i'm expecting better songs tought, but nothing for sure

It has leaked. Here's my own review of this: boring as fuck. It's definitely listenable, and you can truly feel old Metallica riffs around, but I feel it's just all of the same. And when the 'same' it's a just a bunch of good riffs with bad vocals/lyrics, that is kinda bad. Songs that picked my interest: Day that Never Comes (gets pretty bad at 4:40 imo though, the vocals are so bad [THIS I SWEAR] though the riffs are pretty awesome and remind me of One), The Unforgiven III (has only the title in common with the other 'Unforgiven's, still a good track though imo. Good lyrics, its only fault it's being boring).

Please keep in mind that this review comes from a Black Album fan.

Also the song names in this are absolutely trash. "The Judas Kiss"? "My Apocalypse"? Ugh.

EDIT: All Nightmare Long is also a okay track I guess. Reminds me a lot of Megadeth.

the whole album is just too slow and zzz and samey

it doesn't sound like complete shit they have just not written interesting songs this time

4/10

I don't really like this song to be honest, it's not that sounds the same, it's just not good to me, I don't feel that energy as I do when I'm listening to Master of Puppets or any other song.

6/10

I actually enjoyed this album very much. Though it wasn't up there with Ride The Lightning, AJFA, or Master of Puppets, It is a huge step up from the last 4 albums. I'm a huge Metallica fan here, so I might be slightly biased in liking it, but I still agree that some songs are up to par while others aren't as good as they could be. I'll rank how I like the Songs (worst to best):

10. That Was Just Your Life
9. Suicide and Redemption
8. The Unforgiven III
7. The End Of The Line
6. Broken, Beat, & Scarred
5. Cyanide
4. The Judas Kiss
3. The Day That Never Comes
2. My Apocalypse
1. All Nightmare Long

This Was Just Your Life was not a bad song, don't be mislead by me saying its my least favorite on the album. I just found it more boring than the others and no original enough. As for the other songs, for this album they may be ranked low, but if I were to compare them to other Metallica songs, many would be higher up on a list.

Really, I thought the album was a huge success. Metallica is finally coming back up from its last poor attempts at albums (I absolutely hated St. Anger and Garage Inc, and Load/ReLoad were overall poor).

A very solid album, I'm going to rank it 9 out of 10. I understand why some people wouldn't like this album, but I pretty much like everything having to do with Metallica (sans the last few albums, but lets forget those for now), so its a thumbs up from me.

my god you put the best song on there last

in fact that was the only listenable thign

Eh, to each his own i suppose. Its an alright song, but I guess I would just need to listen to it a bit more. For now, I like the others better though ;/

I would say what I enjoy about this album is the solos. I usually find myself just waiting for each song to get to the solo section, which is where this album shines. Otherwise, their other albums are better. The songs are good, they are just uneven in each song as to how good sections are, unlike previous albums where each song is the same quality throughout.

One thing I do love about this album is the Guitar/Bass solos at the end of the Day that Never Comes. Mainly the fact that the bass actually gets to be part of the solo excites me, but it is also one of the more intense solos Metallica has done.

Although it's not as bad as the last few albums, its not very good. I think Metallica is past its prime, and will never be able to recreate the awesome sound they had in their first four or five albums. If they want to keep making albums, they should drop the metal band charade and fully transition into the type of music they have been playing for almost the past decade: alternative, and call themselves Alternica instead of giving people false hopes of the old Metallica's return.

I had high expectations for this one, with all the hype it's been getting. Sounds like I'll be getting my hopes up though...

Bits of it sound like from AJFA but it still has the same rough, unclean sound as St. Anger sans the pots and pans drumming.

It's definitely an improvement but it's mostly a zzzzzzzzzzzz album apart from All Nightmare Long, which I quite liked. I mean, it's a bad sign when I want the songs to hurry up and finish.

Metallica has started to suck since their 4th album and they have become so commercial since their fifth(I am not saying that their earlier albums were not commercial, but they were good, less hipster/more metal, plus thrash metal was very important for metal history)

This album naturally sucks, it is actually natural that the band will suck after a few albums, there are very few exceptions to this rule, Metallica is not one of them, so my dear Metallica enjoy in having a lot of money and lost ideology that helped you to create RtL/KeA/MoP.

What was commercial about this album, zzzzzzzzzzz? I could understand Load/ReLoad being considered "commercial", but I don't see it at all in this one. It was a substantial improvement over the past few albums, though not quite RtL, MoP, or AJFA, but much better than the last few albums.

Have you even listen to this whole album or have you just sampled the first 30 seconds of one of the songs on iTunes?

It's unfortunate that Metallica hasn't aged well, but I've never seen ANYTHING, be it band, T.V/Movie series or whatever that aged well enough to go without criticism by fans or reviewers and the like.
I'm still probably going to get this. It's Metallica, after all. Despite the opinion factor, I'm sure it's still better than lots of newer bands even in their greatest glory.

Sad but true.

Heh, see what I did there?

it's not that bad!

I have to say I really like a handful of the songs (tracks 4-7) but the rest were so samey and meh I just skip them and usually start the album at the day that never comes or all nightmare long (which is a fantastic song)

I just listened to this for the first time today and was pretty happy with it. It's not as good as a lot of their classic stuff, but you can say that about almost every band to be honest, so I don't see what the big deal is. I would rank it about the same as ...And Justice for All (which I personally like so I'm not dissing it by saying that).

At first I was kind of reluctant to listen because all I had heard was The Day that Never Comes (on YouTube) and Unforgiven III (on the radio), and they both sucked majorly. However, after listening to the whole album, I would have to say that those are probably the worst two songs! I especially liked The End of the Line, All Nightmare Long, Cyanide, and Suicide and Redemption. It seemed to have a few more 'filler' tracks than previous albums, but then again it's a lot longer, so eh. Not really a pro or a con

A funny thing I realized is that on a bunch of their albums the second track is the title track. This album isn't named after a song (a line in the lyrics of the last song iirc), but the second track is The End of the Line. Kinda implies something, like Metallica feels their death creeping up on them. yes dm i saw what you did there
