[OVERVIEW]

  • Metang is one of the few steel types in the PU tier allowing it to wall Grass- and Ice-types like Bellossom and Articuno.
  • It differentiates itself from the other steel types with its Psychic typing which allows it to hit Fighting-types with super effective damage.
  • With access to Meteor Mash, it can boost its mediocre attack stat.
  • While holding eviolite, its defense reaches an impressive number of 474 allowing it to take hits from the likes of Primeape and Lycanroc.
  • With the availability of Knock Off to a lot of pokemon, it can get its Evolite knocked off which it relies on to do anything.
  • It gets 2HKOd or OHKOd easily by special attackers like Pyroar, Alolan Exeggutor, and Silvally Ghost.
  • Even with Eviolite it still gets 2HKOd by Aggron's Earthquake and Alolan Raticate's Knock Off.

Moves
========

  • Metang makes for a decent Stealth Rock user because of its bulk with eviolite which allows it to survive many hits with the exception of Drampa's Specs Fire Blast and Flareon's Flare Blitz.
  • Meteor Mash is Metang's most powerful Steel-type move which can also raise its attack stat.
  • Zen Headbutt allows it to hit Fighting-types such as Primeape and Hitmochan with super effective damage.
  • Earthquake lets Metang hit Steel- and Fire-types such as Alolan Sandslash and Combusken with super effective damage.

Set Details
========

  • 252 Attack EVs and an Adamant nature allow Metang to hit as hard as possible while 252 HP EVs and Eviolite allow Metang to take as many hits as possible.
  • Clear Body prevents Intimidate users like Stoutland and Granbull from lowering Metang's attack stat.

Usage Tips
========

  • Keep Metang away from Will-o-Wisp and Knock Off users like Weezing and Alolan Raticate because it needs Eviolite to take pretty much any hit.
  • Switch Metang into attacks that it resists so then it can set up Stealth Rocks safely.
  • Watch out for Pokemon that Metang could usually switch into but that have Knock Off like Leafeon and Kecleon.

Team Options
========

  • Ghost-types like Spiritomb and Froslass prevent Stealth Rocks from being removed by Rapid Spin users like Hitmonchan and Claydol.
  • Gorebyss and Omastar help Metang against Fire-types like Pyroar and Ninetales which would usually OHKO Metang.
  • Fighting-types like Primeape and Gurdurr help it against Dark-types which would usually be able to Knock Off its Eviolite or just do a lot of damage with super effective moves.
  • Wish users like Audino are able to keep Metang healthy especially after it has been hit with a super effective move.
  • Pawniard can switch into Defog and get an attack boost because of its access to Defiant.
  • Pyroar helps Metang against Bulky Grass-types which it can't get through like Tangela and Gourgeist XL.

Other Options
=============

  • Bullet Punch can be used to revenge kill Focus Sash users like Froslass and Crustle but they can't do much to Metang anyways.
  • Gyro Ball is an alternative STAB option but getting outpaced by every Knock Off, Trick, and Will-o-wisp user isn't exactly great.
  • Metang could attempt to run 252 Special Defense EVs and a Careful nature but it still gets OHKOd by Pyroar and while Ninetales 2HKOs this Metang, Earthquake just doesn't do enough to it and it loses a lot of its physical bulk which allows Skuntank to 2HKO it with Sucker Punch 76% of the time.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fire-types**: Fire-types such as Ninetales and Pyroar can OHKO Metang with STAB Fire Blast while being able to take an Earthquake from it.

**Taunt**: Taunt users such as Weezing and Sableye can stop Metang from setting up Stealth Rocks while being able to take hits from it pretty well.

**Will-o-Wisp**: Will-o-Wisp users such as Weezing and Misdreavus can burn Metang so then it can't really beat anything.

**Knock Off**: Knock Off users such as Crustle and Kecleon can get rid of Metang's eviolite then they can faint it.

**Rapid Spin and Defog**: Rapid Spin and Defog users like Hitmonchan and Swanna can get rid of Metang's Stealth Rocks.

**Dark-types**: Dark-types such as Silvally Dark and Skuntank still do a lot of damage with physical super effective moves despite Metang's boosted defenses.

Unfortunately, I'm gonna have to reassign this. The overview doesn't really go into enough detail about why one should consider using Metang over other Stealth Rock users like Mesprit, Regirock, and Mudsdale, there are mentions of unviable Pokemon throughout the analysis (Flareon, Silvally-Dark, etc.), usage tips is incredibly barren, team options are all over the place in terms of recommendations, and this in combination with saying things like 'Froslass and Crustle don't do much to you anyways' makes me question your metagame knowledge.

If you're interested in learning more about the tier for writing analyses, I'd advise looking at this, and if you wish to reserve something else at any time, feel free to do so.
