REVIVING THE PS! ROOM
NEEDS MOAR ACTIVITY ADFHKDSGJLOIJEKSA
Hey Smogon! So, zwab aka Blood4DaBloodTotem on PS has started to host tournaments on PS! in the NeverUsed room. He has agreed to allow me to post a thread about it here on Smogon. NU is pretty dead right now, both on Smogon and on PS, so hopefully this is going to generate some activity!
What is this all about?
Tournaments will be held on an irregular basis (we're aiming to start by hosting about 1-2 a week, but that number can and should increase). These tournaments will obviously in NU, but will have different themes attached to it (a bit like mini-tournaments). The difference, however, is that these microtours will be held live, with all participants being present throughout the tour. Signups for the tour will either be posted here in the thread a few days before or will happen a few minutes before the tournament, live in the PS room, depending on who's hosting the tour and when.
Why are we doing this?
NU is dead right now. This means the ladder is shittier than ever. This also means that you'll hardly find any battles ever on the ladder. By hosting these microtournaments on PS, we hope that it will be a platform to find decent battlers and test your skills. Meanwhile, it allows the Smogon community to integrate with the PS community. It also provides a chance for lesser-known good players to gain recognition by winning a few tournaments, and for newer players to take a look at good battlers! Yep, that's right: unless otherwise stated by the tour host, you're allowed to watch battles. Also, it's for the NU community on both sides to get together and have fun!
Who will be hosting the tournaments?
The original idea needs to be credited to Blood4DaBloodTotem, however, the drivers will be willing to host a tournament whenever they feel like the time is ripe. Anyone can also host tournaments, of course, but if you want them to be showcased in the thread, please remember to PM me the theme as well as the completed brackets.
When will these microtours be held?
A few of these tours will have signups posted with details in this thread. We will do our best to vary the timezones such that everyone gets a chance to play. For the rest of the tournaments that are impromptu, there obviously won't be prior notice, and will probably only occur when there is a sufficient number of people. For these impromptu tours, there is no predicting when they'll happen. Sorry!
Where will these microtours be held?
In NeverUsed on the PS! room. If you don't know how to get there, click here.
What do I get from winning the tournament?
The winner and runners-up of the tournaments will be featured in this thread, so you get a lot of recognition! That's pretty much it for the moment, but I will try to bargain with the room owners and see if I can get them to give out provisional room voice to multiple microtour winners!
What if there are no microtours currently active?
Then, you can simply challenge each other for informal battles in the room, play on the ladder, chat in the room, or, if the room has a sufficient number of people and you feel up for it, host a tournament!
RULES for playing in a microtour:
1) Do not flame or insult other users, no matter how bad you think they are.
2) No ghosting allowed. Sorry.
3) You must be present for the entirety of the microtournament (at least until you get knocked out). If, after 5 minutes of inactivity or absence after the brackets are posted, an activity win will be given to the opponent, no exceptions. If both players fail to start a battle even after all other matches have been completed, and are both deemed equally inactive, it is up to the host's discretion whether to do a coinflip or eliminate both players and give the next matchup a bye. Also, being present doesn't just mean you stay online on irc, or stay online in the PS lobby, it has to be the NeverUsed room.
4) Please make sure that your PS! name is the same as the one you used to sign up with. This makes contacting opponents much easier.
5) Because these are live microtournament, if a player disconnects and times out for that reason, they will be considered to have lost the match.
6) Do not spam the room or the battle chat.
7) Do not give away teams when spectating a battle.
8) Have fun.
RULES for hosting a microtour:
1) Make sure your theme is easy to understand, and doesn't change the current metagame unnecessarily.
2) If you're hosting an impromptu microtour and you're tweaking the rules quite a bit, make sure to give ample time for teambuilding. In a similar vein, do not change the ruleset too much, or teambuilding will take too long. Please avoid giving out more than 20 minutes to teambuild, because we want the tours to be short and sweet.
3) Make sure there are enough people.
4) Hosts must remain present throughout the entirety of the tournament. If they are unable to do so in the event that the tour takes longer than expected, they should pass on the role to a voice / driver / moderator / owner in the room, or someone they trust, to take over.
Failure to comply to the above rules may result in a tournament ban, or in severe cases a room ban.
If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to post them in this thread. In the meantime, have fun on PS and hopefully this revives the room a little.

lol who even reads this nowadays
Sleep Clause: If a player has already put an opposing Pokémon to sleep using a sleep inducing move and that Pokémon is still sleeping due to that sleep inducing move, the player cannot put another opposing Pokémon to sleep using a sleep inducing move.
Species Clause: A player cannot have two of the same species of Pokémon on their team, based on the National Pokedex Number. For example, a player cannot have two Koffing on his or her team.
Evasion Clause: Players cannot use Double Team or Minimize in any of their Pokémon's movesets. In fifth generation (BW) Smogon tiers, the items BrightPowder and Lax Incense also may not be held by any Pokémon on a player's team. In other generations, these items do not break this clause.
OHKO Clause: Players cannot use Horn Drill, Guillotine, Sheer Cold, or Fissure in any of their Pokémon's movesets.
Timer Clause: If a player exhausts the timer, he/she loses.
Endless Battle Clause: No FunBro
