Mismagius help

Is it a better option to use mismagius as a pain split/perish song/protect(shadow ball?)/mean look or to go for the gold with pain split/shadow ball/psybeam/calm mind (energy ball)?

With her kickass spd, spa and speed she could be a decent sweeper so long as a rock slide or zen headbutt don't come near her.

What say ye?

bump.

I'd really like to know. Is she good sweeper material? Especially with a calm mind and perhaps one agility BP, not much could take her down short of a quick poke with some nice physical moves. I was playing in game and tried a perish song...much to my shegrin some brilliant trainer used mean look right back at me. Since it was his last poke, I opted to KO his guy before the song took effect- two shadow balls later (stabed with normal damage) the mighty poke was knocked out completely and my mismag was saved. I was mostly hoping to have her as a stand along kind of poke because I dislike using BP on teams.

This is entising too:
Turn one: Mean look
Turn two: Perish song
Turn three: Protect or pain split

Switch out.

I like that set for Mismagius, its Set-Up Fodder for my Raikou

The CM Set is probably best, HP Fighting/Shadow Ball is the Best coverage wise. Will-O-Wisp or Pain Split is the next option I guess, for a sweeper having only one attacking move is sort of bad, so Pain Split/Will-O-Wisp/Calm Mind/ Attack is out of the picture. Blissey cannot beat Mismagius, which is always good.

In my experience mismagius did not work as an attacker because gengar can do exactly what he does better and faster. But I really don't know how your team is, so recommending one or saying it is better is meaningless because it all depends on how it fits in your team.

why thunderbolt over something else? does it just provide the most coverage?

I'm using mismag because I like to annoy people a bit and cause gengar is on my other team :)

Mismagius pretty much has to use Calm Mind to prevent itself from being completely outclassed by Gengar, so definately go with the Calm Mind/ Thunderbolt (or HP Fighting)/ Shadow Ball/ Will-o-wisp (or Pain Split) set.

I'm not a big fan of the Destiny Bond set, as it stands.

As far as Perish Trapping(the first set) goes, I think it is probably one of the single most frowned upon strategies in Pokemon history, but tended to really only be effective when assisted by a Sleep Move. MissyD may have evolved, but 60 Base Defense and HP makes it almost a sure thing that you're going to die to the first physical attack that hits you - I really wouldn't suggest trying to pull that set off.

The second set you listed... why exactly would you use Psybeam? Not only does Mismagius get access to the superior Psychic, but Psychic really doesn't do much of anything for you given that it's resisted by mostly the same types as Ghost and is not really Super Effective on many common Pokemon other than some of the defensively inept Pokemon like Heracross and Infernape. I'm also curious why exactly you're worried about Zen Headbutt and Rock Slide specifically, since Mismagius isn't weak to either move(although I guess since they are physical moves it may as well be...)?

I would probably use Calm Mind/Shadow Ball/Will-o-Wisp/HP Fighting, or Thunderbolt if Hidden Power isn't available.

I would also probably read the Mismagius Analysis - http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20576, given that it has better versions of sets that you describe. Locking this, the discussion thread and the analyses exist to be used.
