The Mix and Mega Council has decided to suspect test Rusted Sword!
Rusted Sword is another ban that has stood for nearly two years now, but unlike the previous contenders this one is of a Mega Stone. At the time it was banned, Rusted Sword was a premier offensive threat; not only did it give the incredibly useful Steel typing to any Pokemon that ran it, it also gave them extra speed and attack, a free +1 attack boost via Intrepid Sword, and upgraded Iron head into the powerful Behemoth Blade. The main offenders for this stone were offensive dragon types like Baxcalibur, Dragonite, and Roaring Moon, with the last of these even getting a temporary ban before the stone was banned instead. They would boost up with Dragon Dance and then make themselves incredibly difficult to revenge kill via their solid bulk, neutrality to Espeed, and ability to change their defensive profile on a whim.
However, this was an immensely different metagame. Not only was the tier lacking in potent defensive tools like Arceus, Pecharunt, and Aggronite, Terastallization was also free, and perhaps the biggest advantage of rusted sword was that unlike most mega stones it allowed its user to Terastallize. In the years since that mechanic has been entirely banned, leaving any would-be setup sweepers locked into the steel type. Moreover, Rusted Sword really only offers one opportunity to sweep, since if the user ever switches out it simply becomes a worse version of Aggronite; even temporary measures for fending off such a sweeper may prove sufficient in practice.
On the most recent survey, Rusted Sword had the most positive responses of any option, and so the council has decided to put the question to the community. Is Rusted Sword still too potent to be allowed in the Mix and Mega Metagame?
