MLB 2025

Per Sarah Langs, only 3 postseason series have ever had a run differential lower than -20.

The all-time low is -28. Since 2000, the lowest is -23. For reference, even when the Yankees got swept by the Astros in 2022, it was only -9.

As I write this, exactly halfway through the second game of the Yankees-Blue Jays series, the differential is -20. 10-1 Game 1, 11-0 now.

We are at the precipice of history.

An interesting Game 1 comparison comes to mind.

8 Yankees batters (minus Judge): 4 hits. 3 singles, one double.

They went 4-28, 0.143.

Vlad: 3 hits and 1 run-scoring sacrifice fly. 2 singles, the sacrifice fly, and one home run.

He went 3-4. If you think the Yankees did better because of his one unproductive PA, I can understand that.

Oh, the team with a -28 differential? The Pirates, who got outscored by the Yankees 55-27 in the 1960 World Series. The Yankees would go on to lose.

EDIT: In the time I wrote this post, the Jays scored another run. This series is currently the 4th most lopsided playoff series in history.

EDIT 2: With the game over, the run differential is now only -15. Maybe next game! Still on pace to make the top 4.
