Other Tier Monoletter Teambuilding Competition

Approved by Velcroc

Welcome to Monoletter Teambuilding Competition! In this project, a pokémon, core, letter, or theme will be presented for you to build a team around each week and then submit. This will then be taken into voting. The winner is the team with the most votes!

Rules:

  1. Entry submission: Post team in the thread itself with import and explanation in hide tags. Please, when you are submitting a team, try not to slash movesets, items, or both in the importable. The finished product should be the build you are most confident in. It is fine to do minor set changes throughout the week, but if you want to give an option for one of your Pokemon, note it in the explanation instead. Make sure the team you post is according to the pokémon, core, letter, or theme of the week—else you’ll get disqualified. Joke teams will also be disqualified. If you'd like to submit an idea for a pokémon, core, letter, or theme, don't be afraid to contact Drag0n or AthenaStrive9 through Smogon or Discord.
  2. Disputes and Copying: There is potential for disputes over copying or people making similar entries. In general, if your team entry has the same cores of Pokémon and similar move sets to an earlier entry, it will be disqualified. If anyone tries to abuse this by reserving an early post in the thread for their entry, please bring it to my attention and they'll be disqualified. If you are caught doing this there is a high possibility you will not be allowed to post in the building stage for an indefinite amount of time.
  3. Discussion and team changes: One part of the process is to have discussion about the teams and the core. While I'd like to keep this from being a speedy RMT thread, suggestions of improvements to entered teams are allowed. In the interests of fairness though, I'd ask that any suggestions don't involve anything more major than move set changes, and that if you've already submitted a team you won't change the Pokémon in it. In short, be sure that you're happy with the team before you send it in.
  4. Clean and Tidy: Keep the thread as clean and uniform as possible for ease of browsing. This means keep formatting consistent, using the provided links for sprites, and avoid posting one liners during the submission phase.
  5. Sprites:Please use this sprite option below:
    • Format is :pokemonnamehere: ex. :unown: -> :unown:
  6. Voting Phase: The voting system used is the Ranked Pairs format. This format is arguably much fairer than the simple voting format and should help keep high stakes for the teams that win. To vote, order your options like this: C>B>A>D, like this A>B=C>D, or like this D>C, assuming there are 4 team options (A, B, C, and D). You can vote if you made a team, but naturally, you aren't allowed to vote for yourself. If you choose not to vote for all teams, the last team(s) will be assumed to be last and valued equally if more than one got left out. If you have any questions about this system, by all means, contact Drag0n or AthenaStrive9.
  7. Voting for the next cycle: Upon the conclusion of each cycle a poll will be posted at the top of this thread. The poll will run for a couple of days while the current teams are voted on. Each poll will consist of multiple options of which the winner will be the next pokémon, core, letter, or theme built around. I have made a preliminary list of mons that will potentially be an option for the teambuilding competition. Again, if there is a set or a pokemon you think would be fun to build around please do not hesitate to contact Drag0n or AthenaStrive9.

A surprisingly adept looking hazard stack team.

:Ferrothorn: - The Best mon in the letter F, provides rocks and a good start to the defensive core.

:Froslass: - Spikes, spin blocking and also status in wisp.

:Flygon: - a SpD set to help with the general fire weakness of the team, also provides removal and pivoting.

:Floatzel: - A strong breaker with a good speed tier that provides priority in jet and also pivoting.

:Fezandipiti: - This is the slot I was personally a little questionable of, but a good physically defensive pivot that can spread status via beat up + toxic chain semi reliably.

:Flamigo: - Speed control.

Going into this I did not have very very high expectations, but I think purely as a team of six this can infact work. Some possible changes include optimised EV spreads (most are rn just taken from other tiers), possible moveset changes on certain mons and also the possibility of making the fez a sweeper set instead of a pivot.

:sv/ferrothorn: FERRO RAIN :sv/floatzel:
Importable: :ferrothorn: - :feraligatr:-:floatzel:-:fezandipiti:-:furfrou:-:flygon:

This team aims at leveraging its defensive core featuring Ferrothorn to chip down water resists and checks to its main breakers, floatzel and feraligatr.

When initially scrolling through F mons, strong water mons in floatzel and feraligatr immediately caught my eye. Since ferro was already a given on the team, using rain to boost these breakers and support ferro with its 4x fire weakness was the idea.
:ferrothorn::floatzel::feraligatr: :poke-ball: :poke-ball: :poke-ball:

Since there weren't many other breakers who could abuse rain well in the pool of F mons, I decided on going for a more bulky approach to a rain team. I wanted mons to provide support against Ferro's 2 weaknesses as well as being able to support the 2 water types offensively. Decided on Fezandipiti for its 4x resistance to fighting and ability to toxic poison checks and hit dragons.
:ferrothorn::floatzel::feraligatr::fezandipiti: :poke-ball: :poke-ball:

Deciding on a rain setter for the team was probably the step that took the most thought, I wanted a relatively bulky setter that would also be able to pivot to make up for being a manual rain setter. Ultimately found Furfrou to be the best fit for this role, despite its unimpressive natural bulk, its ability Fur Coat gives it enough bulk to come in and set rain once or twice.
:ferrothorn::floatzel::feraligatr::fezandipiti::furfrou: :poke-ball:

Honestly there were tops 5 viable F mons left at this point so deciding on the last mon was not much of a struggle. Decided on Flygon to help against the team's lack of ground switchin and to add a defensive fire resist to assist Ferro. AV was the set of choice to help with team's lacking special defense.
:ferrothorn::floatzel::feraligatr::fezandipiti::furfrou::flygon:
:blobthumbsup:

:ferrothorn: - The feature mon, Rocky Helmet + Iron Barbs is extremely punishing to any contact move and helps in chipping down common water resists for the breakers of the team. Dual high base power STABs prevent it from being passive and it sets rocks for the team.

:floatzel: - The "fast" breaker, offers immediate breaking power with its rain and choice band boosted STABs. Opted for Liquidation over flip turn to keep a clickable STAB that helps with Floatzel's longevity.

:feraligatr: - The "slow" breaker, SFLO boosted liquidation under rain has very few switchins, after a dragon dance this mon is near unwallable.

:fezandipiti: - Pivot 1, acts as the sole fighting resist. Its ability along with taunt allow it to easily spread poison and prevent recovery to chip down opposing water resists.

:furfrou: - Rain setter, fur coat and max defense investment allow it to sponge enough physical hits to set rain a few times.

:flygon: - Pivot 2, respectable special bulk with an assault vest. Dragon tail lets it phaze out setup getting out of hand while First Impression and U-Turn can catch opposing grass type pokemon off guard to open up cleaning opportunities for the 2 water types.

Hazard Stack Pivot Spam

Ferro + Fezan is a nice defensive core that I built off of with other strong pivots to wear down teams with pivoting and hazards.
Floatzel is a strong breaker and offensive pivot with flip turn, it also helps against fires. Flygon is the main fire and ground resist of the team and I went with an unorthodox psy noise set to stop defensive mons from healing off the chip provided by the previously mentioned hazards + pivoting. Flamigo is another fast pivot and general speed control and although Frosmoth is another 4x fire weak, it can be a very strong sweeper/ cleaner with hazards up and flygon + floatzel are enough for most teams.

Even thought this is a hazard stack I opted for no removal since only 1 Mon on the team is fully affected by hazards (2 boots, 2 spike immune, 2 rock resist) and there wasn’t really a way to fit defog without changing other sets that I thought were strong. Nor did I want to remove my own hazards with defog.

Trick Room team to throw off the meta, Fezandipiti to have some speed if you want to take out a threat first.
:Ferrothorn: defesnive staple of the older gens, hazards and gyro since you want to be the slowest thing on the field and hit fairies hard (damn T abusers).
:fezandipiti: fast special attacker in case you want to chip before setting up your Trick Room, 2 stabs & beatup to ignore rocky helmets. U-Turn for much needed pivot.
:frosmoth: ice/bug isnt the best defensive typing, but maxing out on spdef and ice scales should prove you to take some hits from neutral moves.
:frillish: coverage for your fire weakness, TR setter #1.
:flapple: dance + STAB moves, acrobactics to have something in case of a knock off
:farigiraf: TR setter #1, CM + STAB, Psychic Noise to prevent heals.

started wanting to build a hazard stack and ended up with forretress in my teambuilder, original idea was to use defiant falinks to punish defog but decided that my team lost to ghold if i did that (coba berry no retreat falinks is p heat tho)
:ferrothorn: decided on no hazards whip knock leech tect, decided that hitting fairies wasnt as important with a fez so whip is more aura, helm exists to punish constant spinning so you can eventually win the hazard war
:forretress: decided i wanted hazard stack, wanted a spinner because defogging your own hazards is giga cringe, this is the only spinner in f, lets ferro run a greedier no hazards moveset, red card endure exists as a way to get a one time check to whatever setup sweeper you need to phase out, otherwise exists to spin and spike
:flygon: grounds are good and this doubles as a fire resist for ferro for forre while also being a ground immune, weird spread but its for ghold so you can outspeed it even if its timid
:fezandipiti: too good to not run and spreading toxic synergizes with ferro and is a fighting resist
:flamigo: was falinks before i realized that this team loses to ghold so i swapped it for scarf flamigo, its lame but its here to be a fast attacker and your speed control
:feraligatr: pretend its mega, but once everythings chipped this guy can come in and cause serious problems, icium z just to punish grass types
tldr; ghold is op
i love being quad weak to fire i love being quad weak to fire i love being quad weak to fire

I nearly forgot to submit my team for this—wanted to do some more testing but never got around to it and I won't have more time to test before the deadline. I don't remember what the EV spreads do as I made the team when the first week started, but trust that each spread has a purpose. Link to the Poképaste is below.

:Fezandipiti::Flamigo::Frillish-F::Floatzel::Flygon::Ferrothorn:
:Ferrothorn:
Like everyone else here, this team started with Ferrothorn—the best Pokémon in the letter F. Ferrothorn functions as a bulky Spikes setter who stays around with Leech Seed which also chips down opponents. Knock Off removes useful items like Heavy-Duty Boots and Leftovers, and Power Whip provides some immediate damage.
:Fezandipiti:
Arguably the second best Pokémon in the letter F, Fezandipiti resists the fighting attacks that Ferrothorn is weak to while supporting the rest of the team by spreading poison and pivoting with U-turn. Beat Up is Fezandipiti's best means of spreading poison, while Play Rough is used to deal with fighting types. Fezandipiti serves as a special wall, complimenting Ferrothorn as a physical wall, with Roost keeping them in the game longer.
:Flygon:
Resisting fire moves that Ferrothorn is weak to while complimenting their Spikes with Stealth Rock, Flygon is the final piece to this team's main progress core alongside Ferrothorn and Fezandipiti. Roost provides crucial recovery to aid in Flygon's longevity, while U-turn brings in other teammates much like Fezandipiti. A rock resistance and ground immunity means that Flygon does not fear entry hazards and as such does not require Heavy-Duty Boots. Groundium Z is the item of choice to provide Flygon with a one-time damage boost, while allowing them to double as a Knock Off absorber.
:Frillish-F:
Do not underestimate this jellyfish—they put in the WORK. The combination Eviolite boosted defenses, Will-O-Wisp, and Strength Sap cripples any physical attacker and allows Frillish to make progress with Night Shade. These three moves alone can often check an opposing team's repetoir of physical attackers except with few exceptions—Knock Off access being a notable one. Magic Coat is this team's way of stopping hazards from setters that lack immediate damage or status effects such as Ting-Lu or Garchomp. While Magic Coat is ultimately a filler move, stopping hazards is necessary for games where Frillish and Floatzel are needed to check multiple Pokémon—something Frillish can often find themselves doing successfully. Water Absorb is useful for stopping the ever-crippling Scald and is overall less situational than Cursed Body.
:Flamigo:
Flamgio provides the team with speed control and more immediate damage. Close Combat and Brave Bird are high power stab moves that hit hard. U-turn provides even more pivoting with Flamigo being a fast pivot in contrast to Fezandipiti and Flygon being slow pivots. Roost can be used to heal off damage from attacks or Brave Bird recoil on turns when a switch in is expected.
:Floatzel:
While Flamigo is fast and hard hitting, Floatzel is a little slower but even harder hitting thanks to the Choice Band. Wave Crash packs a punch with the Choice Band, while Flip Turn makes Floatzel into another fast pivot on the team alongside Flamigo. Aqua Jet provides the team with access to a priority move to pick off weakened opponenents. Switcheroo—with proper prediction—can be used as a one-time way to cripple a more passive Pokémon that cannot function while choice locked at the cost of Floatzel losing a lot of damage output. This is useful against stall teams or balance teams that contain especially passive Pokémon.

The vote for myself doesn’t count, but I do think I had the best team this round.

Athena and Dabman both had strong teams and could be interchangeable for the 2 and 3 spot, but I like Athena’s slightly better.

The teams in the middle were all good for the most part (besides the weird sets in 3), but they had worse cores than the top 3 imo and the rain is kinda gimmicky.

Retros was an easy last place pick for me, sorry. Not only does F not have good enough trick room abusers to justify it in general. This team has quiver dance frosmoth, dragon dance flapple and tailwind fezandipiti that are all anti synergy with trick room.

Mega Beedrill + Blissey Balance

This is a fat/balance team centered around Mega Beedrill. It hits hard with Adaptability boosted STABs and his nice utility in knock off and tspikes. Blissey is a defensive pivot that can support the offensive mons on the team rather than a stall pokemon. Buzzwole is a another bug type that pairs well with blissey due to its fighting resistance. Bisharp is a offensive swords set with black glasses to break teams and have nice priority against more offensive teams. Blastoise is another defensive pivot, fire resist, and much needed removal for blace and beedrill. Blace is a amazing breaker with choice specs and can snowball after getting some beast boost boosts

hstack + knock pursuit bisharp and 2 wincons in ghost z blacephalon and smasher blastoise, lacks pivoting a bit but makes up with really good defensive and offensive capabilities, bisharp is pursuit to allow the team to break past una spam teams like C fat which have una clod and una clef. z blace mogs clef and pursuit bisharp makes clod eat up recovery pp way faster so u beat it long term easily besides if clef loses pp blastoise just 6-0s, cm ghost z blace also mogs pex vs T balances as ting lu lacks proper recovery u can win the long game quite easily with hstack and just win afterwards easily. be careful vs koko on those teams as we have no ground type so use bliss + brambleghast to outplay. this blacephalon also 6-0s every other B team submitted so far

https://pokepast.es/ddcb4899aeead542
the idea here is to be a fatter team with blissey and buzzwhole covering the special and physcial spectrums, and blastoise being a backup catch all for phys and spdef to help out the other 2 while also helping form a pivot core with blissey to pivot spam and bring in breloom and banette early game so they can start breaking, or bisharp later game when hes ready to sweep/ break through the other team, the main goal of the other 5 is mostly aiming to chip the opposing team down so bisharp can sweep with sucker punch sd late game, along with breloom spore giving you a potential set up chance.
