Monotype Core Laddering Challenge Cycle 1

To register to participate in a core challenge, you must reply to this forum with the proper information to be eligible! See the example post below for details. This also applies for submitting peaks (with that said please keep all of your information onto 1 post)! Otherwise, refer to the Index Thread for the official rules and info on this project. Please make sure to post replays of your Hall of Fame Rankings, failure to do so will result in your post being ignored.

In order to win this challenge, one player must obtain the highest ladder peak with the given core. In order to be eligible for winning the challenge you have to either post a replay of your peak (Highest elo reached) or take a screenshot of your accounts highest rank on ladder. The person with the highest rank at the end of the week is the winner of the challenge and will get posted in a new hall of fame in the Index thread along with the team they were using. If you win, please PM the team to Perishing Song or Namranan along with a brief description of the team and how you got the elo you got to. (Replays are much appreciated)

Remember to keep track of your Win/Loss ratio because the person with the best ratio out of 30 games can get a shoutout after the challenge has ended. To submit your Win/Loss ratio just take a screenshot of your record and post it in your registration. The team with the best record will be added to its own Hall of Fame. That being said, if you win the challenge you must PM Namranan or Perishing Song your team with a brief description of how it works. If you do this even without winning you will still have your team posted in an honorable mentions section. You get 1 extra point this cycle if you submit your team.

Discussion on the cores is welcome as long as you are constructive and abide by smogon's forum rules.

Congratulations to Kaguya Lys for winning the Dragon peak challenge! Unfortunately, there was no winner for the Ghost challenge.

I’m on mobile but I wound up using some non-conventional teams for these cores so I wanted to make a post about them anyway. Sadly there will be no pretty pictures or spoiler tags. :(

Claydol+Celebi Psychic

Claydol is.... decent at best. Colbur Berry definitely is the only item you should on it, giving it a decent niche as a check to threats like Bisharp, Zeraora, and Drapion. Stealth Rocks and Rapid Spin as role compression is cute but Claydol isn’t an exceptional user of either, but also by no means a bad one. Lack of Leftovers is made up for by Healing Wish support if you actually need it to stay alive in the late game. Since Claydol has rocks, this team runs Nasty Plot Celebi which completely decimates Water, Ground, and Poison, and is a solid wallbreaker in general. Triple Scarf Psychic honestly is the best archetype, all of the Scarfers pressure a different set of types and even in matchups where they flounder in, they can use Trick/Healing Wish utility to not be dead weight. In an offensive metagame the key to success for most types is maximizing powerful speed control, and this build does a good job of that. Mew completely beats Steel and Melmetal so it that’s cool considering Celebi does a poor job of breaking in that matchup.

Ribombee+Primarina Fairy

Ribombee does what Ribombee does, set Webs and then die. Primarina is the interesting mon on this build, I enjoyed it last generation for breaking Steel, and it still does the same thing, Ferrothorn is a poor switch in since Hattrene blocks Leech Seed and most Ferros run no SpDef. Primarina was pretty consistently useful, it just hits so hard and doesnt even have to bother with prediction in a ton of matchups with how good its STABs are. Also has good bulk and typing for nice defensive utility. The only other standout mon on the team is the Grimmsnarl set, even with Webs Fairy is slow as hell and powerful priority goes a long way against the offensive metagame, also helps a ton against Psychic with the omnipresent Scarf Jirachi.

Also just give me the win for these cores, I dont feel like posting peaks when its obvious I got the highest.

Congrats to Guwahavel for winning the peak challenge for both types! Since you already posted your teams I will add them to the hall of fame directly. Sadly no one participated in the w/l ratio challenge so no winners there.
