So Im moving to the suburbs and im scared as shit. Im moving from 8 mile in detroit to 21 mile. Im scared we are gonna have burning crosses on our lawn an shit. What should I expect? I dont expect this thread to last long but a few pieces of advice would be nice.
 
Dude, you can move to Northville, Michigan, where I have never seen a black person, and be fine.

I'd imagine many people in the suburbs have seen black people irl. No need to worry.
 
living in the suburbs is safer and better than detroit. everyone knows one another in small suburban communities, so you aren't likely to encounter too much direct dickery unless a very large slice of the community does not like your family. the "burning crosses" comment is a stupid, irrational, and frankly racist fear. just because you are moving to a traditionally white town does not mean they will try to drive you out...

housing discrimination absolutely still exists. i saw a news story the other day about a black family who were being harassed by their ostensibly white neighbors, to the point of vandalism and threats of violence. this happened in what i would say was an upper middle class neighborhood, though i forget where.

i really hope you don't have to deal with anything like that. but welcome to the family of bored, fairly privileged, curb-sitting kids that call the suburbs home.

man you should be looking at this as an opportunity to freak out some white people, honestly, this thread should be devoted to funny stories about your encounters with white poeple in the suburbs.
 
Encounters? My uncle was driving way past the city limits like in the farm lands and shit and the cops pulled him over and told him to turn around because "his kind isnt wanted here". lmao. I really don't have any real funny stories but I seen some lady getting robbed in a walmart parking lot and the dude took off with her purse.

in 2010 there were 132 homicides in Detroit in 2009 there were 141 homicides in Detroit in 2008 there were 186 homicides in Detroit in 2007 there were 181 homicides in Detroit in 2006 there were 169 homicides in Detroit.
