With Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl on the horizon and the hopeful promise of returning DPP mainstays, SS may surely look much different than we know it now. Please use this thread to highlight and record any sets you found particularly interesting or metagame defining for BW - SS.

rocks deoxys-s

Deoxys-Speed @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP / 48 Def / 212 Spe

I think this is easily the best deoxys set rn. Sitting at such a high Speed tier lets Deoxys always get rocks up vs literally every type, notably fire which i think psychic almost always loses to because it can't reliably get rocks up. Knock + taunt also lets it act like a budget stallbreaker mew, which is great against steel and the psy mirror. You also get to lure tornadus in and knock its AV, and get rocks up vs screens water and, well, prevent screens from going up.

Originally had specs melo > garde but i prefer the utility trace gives + specs garde is a nice surprise factor. I was super hell-bent on not losing to cheese screens water so I added final gambit to victini as a cool way to revenge kill gyarados behind screens. Enough HP to eat a +1 bug buzz from volc after rocks. Overall i think this team has very few bad matchups.

Almost always use this ferro on my steel teams these days. Lets you beat keldeo regardless of focus blast or whatever bullshit, and eats a hit from lando and puts it in bisharp range w whip. Also gives you another out vs Mega Gallade psychics. I personally prefer Jirachi as the scarfer since i think it's quite a nice glue to steel teams. It forms a particularly good core w ferro since you can hwish it back up after taking out keldeo / getting burned vs water teams.

Only thing that's holding bisharp from being super broken is that it relies way too much on sucker punch. Hazards + bisharp is insanely good in ORAS, and can flip some traditionally bad matchups like water and ground on its head. An option on this team is dual spikes / rocks and dropping tect / ep on tran. This is my favorite steel cause i think pretty much every matchup is super winnable.

Ngl i think this breloom straight up 6-0s water, steel, dark and ground. Definitely prefer this over regular sd loom nowadays.

Pretty self-explanatory. Really like this cobalion as a glue to fighting teams, and the lead terrak + scarf cobalion switch can be a nice surprise factor. i think this team struggles vs like maybe flying and choice specs deoxys and not much else.

zard flying

i was really obsessed with making zard + band lando t work cuz it seemed like such an insanely good offensive core. Still havent figured that out completely but made this team in the process. I also think defog over solar beam on zard and a different thundy set works just as well. A bit weak to weather but otherwise is really solid and a cool offensive team that gives you a good shot vs most things.

Sharing these in the hope that they will be outdated soon because ORAS definitely needs to be fixed. The Mega Medicham ban was great but exposed a bunch of flaws which frankly make the metagame unbearable to prep for. Personally, I would look into changing the mega rule, banning mega gyara regardless of the mega rule, and getting rid of deoxys and lando. Maybe zard x can be freed idk. Just do something about oras.

Since I mainly just built for myself im just gonna do these without hide tags. In SS i just picked a random type that was really reliable every week and went with it. Its a really underrated metagame and deserves a lot more credit than it gets.

Steelix is cool for grass/dark/steel and the rest of the team covers basically everything well. LO mixed chomp is really nice since it kills Slowbro vs Psychic with eq into draco meteor and prevents it from generating momentum. Toxic lando t is for random stuff like keldeo/mantine/kyurem. Icicle spear mamoswine is for substitute gmoltres/kyurem.

This was something i took from Hyperspace12, mainly the bisharp set. Bisharp can pp stall stuff like toxapex/celesteela nicely esp with steels defensive core like how suicune does on water. Roar heatran is for hydreigon/goltres/togekiss.

I like this psychic team a lot and i decided to bring it. Pretty standard ish but it kinda struggles vs melmetal. Trick victini is nice for aegislash/heatran/slowbro.

This poison team is really nice because gengar is a fantastic breaker. the downside is that i lack stuff like gweezing/glowking which means i have to play really aggressively in games which is different than poison's typical passive style. Gengar gives u a better shot vs stuff like water/flying/psychic/ground which is cool but its a glass cannon so u have to play really aggressive with it to bring it in. Toxic crobat is for sub mons like kyurem, goltres, and spectrier. This team loses to specs zapdos since no flying resist but i felt it was ok because i made it when the zapdos/electric hype died down.

Talked to Roxiee and we both agreed volcanion is jesus on Water. I made this since we already won the week and decided to try it out. It should be pretty self explanatory i think, i didnt test it out so idk if it beats poison with glowking but it should have a nice shot at winning against most things.

Resttalk Goltres is really nice at winning long games, especially when people are starting to use toxic crobat to beat sub. 3 attacks roost Zapdos is cool for Steel ground poison and the mirror. double steel stab celes is for kyurem. Thundy t has flash cannon for a ninetales because people like to ice for some unknown reason.

Decided to repeat flying because its broken. Zapdos g is the scarfer this time and has steel wing for A ninetales because ice. Rest of the team is self explanatory. Got destroyed by rain cause no flip turn immunity but there were outs i didnt take + rain was super good vs my builder so i cant really complain about the mu.

Pretty standard sandless ground team. Explosion on lando takes out Keldeo from full and just random shit. SpD Excadrill is a beast as per usual. Icicle Spear on mamo is for sub bulu. Mega chomp is supposed to be max spa but the paste got messed up and we ended up bringing max attack.

Pretty standard poison team thats actually from 2 MPLs ago that I didnt end up bringing. Payapa Pex is for Victini and Jirachi, the Crobat evs are so u outspeed and kill +1 Adamant Dragonite by using brave bird then z-brave bird. Pretty convenient spread. Dazzling Gleam Nihilego helps with Kommo-o since no Z-haze pex and Thunderbolt Nidoking beats Flying/Water since we dont have tbolt on Nihilego.

Old Steel that i used in a previous MPL against ima. Subtoxic heatran is nice for opposing steels especially when u can pop heatrans balloon with pursuit bisharp. Rest of the team is pretty standard but it covers basically everything.

Originally this was something i wanted to bring against kev but i ended using durant instead. This team is really cracked tho but its fun. yache zapdos is for deoxys-s since u can put it on a timer with toxic or just take it out with discharge if its low enough and greninja. Sash thundy-t was for mega swampert since its a bitch to deal with otherwise & is usually the rocker so u can preserve the sash in that mu. Aerial Ace Mega aerodactyl is for mega gallade since otherwise u die to it.

Electrium Durant is really cool for covering Water/Flying and Keldeo. It also takes out Celesteela in the mirror. Durant is generally cool for Psychic/Flying/Dark/Ground/Water/Steel. Bisharp is air balloon stolen from Attribute to give me a better shot at winning against Ground and makes the Gliscor Flying matchup winnable if they try to Defog on me and its the only removal that wins vs Heatran so u have a decent winpath vs the type either way.

Felt like Leo didn't really know Monotype that well so i gave xiri some crack to hopefully catch him off guard. This is the same 6 as the Chaitanya water team on sample teams, except the sets are fucked up. CB greninja is really funny since it takes out Deoxys S and Alolan Raichu and return is generally really spammable against water/poison when pex is burned. cb low kick also catches steel/kyurem b off guard. mono sludge bomb toxapex is fine here because rotom w has will-o-wisp which spreads burns like crazy. Keldeo is taunt + cm to make the ground matchup winnable without grass knot greninja.

Just gave Pak something reliable so i decided on the flying team i eventually rmt'd. tornadus t breaks a lot of things defensively especially with toxic, mantine catches special attackers off guard especially ones with elec coverage with wacan. The mirror coat tech worked nicely in the game.

Pretty standard dark except Spikes > toxic spikes on Greninja since its better against Water and chople Hydreigon. Chople Hydreigon is for Breloom and Alolan Raichu mainly and the coverage lets it beat Steel especially after Celesteela is knocked. Rock Tomb Krookodile lets u beat zard y and slow down +1 Kommo-o/Dragonite for Hydreigon to beat and i think its generally very useful. I actually lost the paste for this but I tried to remake it from memory.

I used a really similar team in the finals of some money tour vs Prosaic and I got steamrolled because I used Seismitoad > gastrodon. I decided to build correctly this time and put gastrodon there because honestly seismitoad is dogshit and should not be used 99% of the time. Fling gliscor is cool for mega sableye, mew, and acrobatics as STAB gives u a good shot against stuff like fairy and grass (u beat bulu vs fairy). Firium Garchomp is for Celesteela since it would win otherwise after getting to +2 and is overall a huge problem for ground. rest of the team is pretty standard, mamoswine is knock here for better support against psychic even tho spear is cool too.

week 5

This was a team me and Mateeus made for empo last MPL. It autoloses to dragon but i thought it was ok here since kaiser pretty much (rightfully) thinks its dogshit. Its a pretty standard team; flash cannon on thundy t is for ice and mega diancie. Idk why dragonite is adamant eq since u dont even outspeed tapu koko at +1 but it should be either jolly or fire punch depending on what u wanna do better against.

We were already in by this week so i passed cool stuff i wanted to try out. Slowking is generally pretty awesome and comes in vs like every special attacker in SM including deoxys s, tapu koko, alolan raichu, and greninja and dtail + future sight is cool for messing up stuff like water/grass/poison. Water matchup felt covered with rotom-w, gastrodon, and dtail slowking so greninja set does well against Steel/Dragon/Flying with super effective coverage. Scarf Empoleon lures landorus, tapu bulu, kyurem b, and mega diancieand has rocks for compression. This team is cool if u like gigafat 1 breaker.

Another cracked creation. Wanted to build around mega gardevoir and it ended up like this. Its a cool breaker for stuff like Flying/Water/Dark/Poison and gets trace in base form for Thundurus-T and Zeraora. Mew + victini breaks steel and metagross beats fairy. Honestly i thought putting hwish on mega gardevoir was pretty cool to catch people off but i forgot why i used twave on latias. I mainly put latias for the aesthetic tbh, but u can put trick over it if u really want or even do double hwish.

This team is really bad but i figured id have fun since water is my favorite type and Mateeus is a friend. Its build around healing wish alomonola that i saw attribute use in an oras game and i thought it was pretty cool. Didnt have tapu fini on this team so safeguard manaphy is the next best thing to protect mons from status since no toxapex to absorb. This team loses to a whole lot of stuff; i would not recommend using it, but it was a cool idea nonetheless.

We were out and i just gave airfare this squad i was working on earlier on in the season. We were gonna bring the CB greninja chaitanya team otherwise. This is centered around Flock keys and breakers + setup. Main gist is you click fairy lock against pex/swampert/mega venusaur/excadrill etc and use eject button to bring in ur breaker. its a nice way to catch multiple threats in the metagame off guard, and after u take out key pokemon in certain matchups u can go in w ur setup spam and win. Mega Gardevoir is on this team with modest Psychic to kill Mega venusaur after getting trapped, and also offers healing wish support for the other setup sweepers. Klefki has defog for steel and just hazards generally since no mega diancie, but u can run twave over it. Clefable beats steel and grass. Tapu bulu kills celebi with megahorn.

Wanted to win with ground in every gen so i brought it in semis. Diggersby seemed cool since its basically a secondary landorus-t since u want a scarfer with u-turn on sandless ground for momentum. This frees up lando t to run Z-Fly with SD and shits on a lot of types especially when u can bluff scarf lando + band diggers. Chomp should be rough skin but i forgot to change it before the game. This has a hard time vs kommo o but lando t can live one and z fly it without stealth rock. Just rmr to put 4 evs in SpD so u dont get high rolled:

I wanted to make a team with crawdaunt as the breaker so here it is. Crawdaunt + mega Gyarados is pretty cool as darkspam to take down types like Steel, Poison, and Water together after wearing down the Dark resists like Keldeo and stuff like mega venu/ferrothorn. Protect crawdaunt was for scarf rotom w, scarf latios, and scarf thundy t. forcing aqua jet on keldeo after playing around scarf rotom in the water mu should mean mega gyara can take it out with +1 eq later on in the game. It helps with the prediction game a lot. Greninja was for grass/flying/dragon. This team loses to Kommo-o and deoxys s really hard so u can probably run like scarf gren but that means giving up grass mu. u can also run extrasensory to hit mega venu over rock slide.

Xiri was considering bringing this vs IPF but went w dark instead. This pretty much covers everything but nasty plot celebi tho. Magnezone is analytic because golem has magnet pull and hp grass for swampert since i didnt fit grass knot anywhere else on the team. Hp fire is generally really useless on anaytic since u dont actually trap ferrothorn unless u trust ur opponent to not check if theyre trapped or not.

Was something i was considering bringing vs arch week 1. Its nice since u can bluff z jirachi and scarf exca but lack of ferrothorn makes it kinda lose structure against water/electric so i ended up not bringing it.

I dont usually do any BW building but im a huge fan of ground in monotype so i decided to try it out in BW. I think a lot of people exaggerate the water mu for ground across all gens and its very doable through an immunity and powerful breakers. X scissor excadrill is for celebi. This probably has a lot of holes since im not the best bw builder but its a nice team and im proud of it :-3.

Week 2/3vs Kev/Star:

I got destroyed really hard in a test game by stallrein and i thought this rain dance slowbro would be nice to erase hail to make the mu winnable. Its also nice vs fire after the sun setter dies which is an otherwise hard mu. i didnt test this idea at all, it just seemed nice on paper so i brought it. It was originally sunny day but i changed it to rain dance after considering the fire mu and after Zar talked to me. Zarif made the team itself and i really liked it so i just ended up repeating it altho rain dance never got revealed either game.

Dont have anything to say besides ground is super underrated in like every mono gen and poison is slept on in SS/SM as well. Had a fun time building and exploring SS/SM. Also would encourage other ppl to post their stuff here cause its always nice to see ideas that people came up with during the season for meta development and curiosity

Nihilego is probably my favorite mon to use on poisons without slowking galar(I think glowking galar should still be standard but imo its really overrated for such a passive and slow mon). Nihilego, unlike other replacements like Gengar, retains a good matchup against specs users that glowking is supposed to beat, like kyurem, zapdos, or whatever. It also compresses rocks as well, freeing a slot on nidoking for tbolt/sub. I like sludge on my nihilego since the recovery is really nice, but scarf is potentially good too(i havent tried it). Meteor beam is pretty ass imo since it doesn't really sweep much at all besides electric teams that run flashless magnezone and you p much only get one chance to break. having consistent rock stab is really important since without it ur goltres zapdos kyurem interactions become so much more awkward+u dont even have sludge to negate the fact that u need a turn to charge. Knock is rly cool on nihilego as well, since u can knock shit like lando t, glowking, or aegislash that want to come in on you, as well as removing boots so ur rocks are more effective. the base of the team was stolen from Decem (skunk+crobat+spdpex core). toxapex outruns melmetal(fuck u) and shuca berry is pretty nice since it lets u pivot a lot better vs shit like bandoswine or offensive lando ts. bat outspeeds tornadus t which can b quite threatening even w spdef pex since taunt/psychic+knock is a bitch.

idk what made me build this tbh. prob one of my dumbest ideas this generation(excluding subtect vinsharp ofc) but i like the team a lot. Rainless water has a tough time vs a lot of the meta since u cant fit everything u want(mold exca switchin+poison wincon+fighting type+priority+rocker+bulu check+dragon wincon+tspike removal+defogger+zapdos check+speed control+mantine counter). i got this idea since seismitoad actually has some pretty unique traits as a rocker for water. unlike swampert, u counter mantine, since toxic swamp still has a hard time not being a sitting duck vs manta flyings. u also sit on dragalge with water absorb, meaning dragon cant spam alge vs u and pivot into their kyurem every other turn. knock off is also pretty cool. rest of the team is pretty standard, slowbro over king for excadrill/lando tee/mamo, volcanion as a fogger+steel wincon, shifu r, scarf tapu fini, and smash cloyster. i think cloyster is criminally underrated rn since it can cheese a bunch of shitty mus for u like ice/fly/fairydrag.

i got clowned for this set but i think its legit as a breaker. hurricane is the shittiest move ever to break with and honestly fuck that move but its still a 110 bp flying stab move with a base 110 spa so it suffices(lookin at u zapper). I think smth rly cool abt this is that u have regen, so even if u miss ur cane and get forced out u still have more chances to punch holes, meaning 70% dicerolls arent as impactful with it. knock off lets u remove tran lefties and glowking vests; its a good move on torn in general so i have it. u dont really need much coverage anyway unless u REALLY hate urself and use fblast but dont do that. 128 spa lets u 2hko spd pexes. rest of the team is standard, i considered dnite but i think its not as good as mantine on flying so i decided not to use it(water immunity is rly key imo+u have defog so u dont need to run fog corvi/lando.) also you get bonus points for style since ur using all 3 therian formes!!!!

i think ive been given too much credit for my prep, i honestly just stole sets/cores that i liked(mainly from Decem, like the psychic team kythr used vs gorex), and just built my own shit around it. nevertheless, i didnt get the chance to thank Jyph and Zar for letting me onto the team even though neither knew who the fuck i was before this. Decem u were prob the first "good player/community member" that gave me a chance and ur one of the best friends i have on this site <3(and also the reason i even bothered to ask to join the teamcord). kythr Meta airfare thanks for actually trusting that my builds werent dogshit and using them, and also shoutouts to everyone else on the team that made the experience so fun even though i went undrafted. love yall

Classic LO Nidoking, Scarf Krook with Outrage because i don't have Mamoswine in this team, Gastrodon spedef with the Float Stone ( Holder's weight is halved. ) with this item it survives two hits from major users of Grass Knot like Tapu Koko or Thundurus-T, Mixed Garchomp i'm not sure if i add the same spread in the game because i change it but very cool set he help vs a lot of match up and he work well during the game, Sub BU Lando EV's are for Amoonguss he was supposed to 6-0 Poison but that's harder now with the rise of Toxic Crobat, Utility Excadrill with SR and Spin you can probably drop SR for Sword Dance if you want but Spin is very usefull for few match up like Fairy.

For the week 2 i want something strong against Fly and Dragon those two types had a lot of usage week 1 so I took ice to prevent spam and little stat i met 0 fly this tour so i think it was successful.
Classic Veil Ninetales, Sash Mamoswine, Dragon Dance Kyurem i love this set pp stall a lot of pokemon beat some of his check who think it's a special kyurem this Pokemon is just too strong he can sweep 90% of the type just look at this stat 660 BST that's crazy Melmetal have "only" 600 BST lol, prefer Cloyster as a Spin here because he have Tspikes for Kyurem and Scarf Darma Band Weavile for the end you can swap the item if you want or delete Darmanitan cause this pokemon is bad.

For the week 3 i want something good vs Steel Dragon and Fairy so i start around Scarf Jirachi with Play Rough for Dragon, Stallbreaker Mew with the Kasib Berry which allows me to Knock Off and Will-O-Wisp Dragapult and Aegislash, Slowbro with Flamethrower for steel, Classic Boots Victini Will-O-Wisp for Dnite and Landorus you can also spread few burn vs Poison, Classic cm Hatte and Specs Latios i want to test this set because Specs Dragon are always scary like Hydreigon, Kyurem or Dragapult are good examples Draco Meteor hits really hard and Trick is usefull in a lot of situation.

For this week i face someone i know quite well i know he want to play with some random build and won with something "funny" so i basically take the steel i used for the last suspect.
Heatran Scarf can lure a lot of pokemon if your opp doesn't check the item he can ko Tapu Koko with Eruption for example, Sub Melmetal, Corviknight better than other fly steel here because he can pp stall some random set, SD Excadrill with occa for the fire mu, Aegi spedef WP i don't think that's a good set but he save some run on the ladder Sneak is always cool here because Scarf Heatran stay slow and Jirachi Specs Thunder for the para that's cool for speed control and trying to para some random setup.


Week 6 vs Kaguya Lys :

I don't remember if my team was in good position for play off but i was expecting dark, dragon or fairy so i try to build a bug.
Bug have 1 usage this mpl kythr who link his team at the end of the game so i based my team on this team and a bug Fírnen made like 4 month ago.
Buzzwole good wall and win condition versus steel (EV from Fírnen), Araquanid stolen from Frnen too Water Absorb looks cool for the Rain without Toxapex i really dislike shuckle so i take this set for my sticky web setter, Volcarona QD Roost Psychic for the Poison MU, Scizor good versus the offensif type especially Ice and Fairy, Ribombee for Dragon and Vikavolt over Galvantula because i think i this guy is too frail and you need an elec for water and fly.


Week 7 vs Conflux :

Nothing to say here because my team was at 90% in Play Off, i just want to test some Decem set if you want the explanation for Zapdos and Moltres-Galar just looks at the post above. Corvi with Body Press for Dark, i put Outrage on my Scarf for Dragon, Dnite for fire elec and Dragon, Tornadus give a second defog and he help vs psy.


Semifinal vs TJ :

Not gonna lie this team wasn't build for TJ, i just try to build a Dragon with a decent mu against Ice and i test this team in seasonal versus Conflux and i won a game with it so i've decided to play with this team.
Scarf Duraludon for ice, classic Dragalge Gunk Shot for cm user, Specs Kyurem for the immediate power, Sub ID Kommo-o for Steel and Dark, Latias Soul Dew is a really good set Strong vs all the type without steel defog is needed in Dragon because if you don't have one you just lose on the hazards and Hex Dragapult because spreading burns is always a good idea Dragon Darts for Dragon Match Up.

Colbur Runegrigus for Bisharp, i build this team around the decidueye the set is from sm sample team you always have difficulty with Entry hazards and Ground move so i think decidueye is decent for that.

That's a team i build before mpl and i want a ground with a good match up versus fairy so i play Spin Excadrill and Steelix as a Win Condition for Fairy and Dark this pokemon can come on Scarf Bulu which is nice too, i don't really like this version of mixed chomp prefer the one i play week 1 but Shiba play with this version and in last i want a scarf, i put Scarf Nidoking to lure some pokemon i think Scarf nido is easy to hide on this team with ebelt chomp or lando/exca.
