My first attempted serious team

Hi everyone. This is my first post and my fourth day since getting into competitive pokemon. I've made a total of 8 teams but for most of my teams I just did weird things like putting all pokemon with tough defenses in (which has worked so far up to the 1000 rating mark). This is my first attempt at making a balanced team. I will notice and take to heart any advice. Thanks in advance!

At this point there isn't really much thought behind these choices. All of these movesets are from the Pokemon descriptions at Smogon. I gave Gengar Choice Scarf because I needed a special sweeper and a leader. With high speed he does a good job of leading. I chose 5 pokemon with two types and one pokemon with one type. No types overlap between any of these pokemons. I read somewhere that that was a good thing but I'm not sure exactly how important it is. I made Salamance a Classic MixMence just because I have the impression that Mixed attackers can work out really well from reading around. I made Tyranitar a Choice Bander because that seemed really strong with pursuit. I made Swampert a MixPert because I heard having a Bulky Water pokemon on a team was good. I chose Scizor over the previous Metagross to help patch up my team's weakness to Ground attacks and gave him what seemed to be his main sweeping moveset. Usually I used CM Blissey in my previous teams but this Blissey seemed more annoying so I chose it to give it a try.

As you can see I don't know much about counters.

Choice scarfed gengar leads are never seen after platinum. I suggest putting that swampert into the first spot on your team, droping one attack for stealth rocks.
If you want scizor to be a late game guy, i suggest changing to lucario, the most brutal swords dancer in the metagame (ubers?)
Lucario@life orb
Adamant 4hp/252atk/252spd
-Swords dance
-Close combat
-Crunch
-Extremespeed

or, if zapdos/gliscor are a pain and you can care about the ghosts
Lucario@life orb
-Swords dance
-Close combat
-Ice punch
-Extremespeed

Also, you need to put descriptions on the pokemons, or this thread will be closed.

3. Have some actual words in your post beyond your six Pokemon and their moves. Not following this makes your post quite boring to read and rate. All Pokemon should have a good reason for being in your team anyway, so why not post that reason? If you're having trouble with this one, start by giving an explanation for each team member. Why are they there? What role do they serve? How do you get them in? Then, give an explanation of how you would open with the team and how you would go about using it. All of these things help people rate your team and allow us to offer more helpful advice.

This does not mean add one sentence saying "Standard x" or "all-around awesome" after each Pokemon. If you put thought into making the team, you can put thought into posting it.

Feel free to post again whenever you're ready.
