My first competetive team

Well this is my first team Im new to competetive pokemon and I haven't even had tutoring yet so here goes nothin.

Swampert Gengar Magnezone Infernape Salamence Scizor

Swampert
HP: 252/Atk: 6/Def: 252
Nature: Relaxed
Ability: Torrent
Item: Leftovers
Earthquake
Ice Beam
Protect
Stealth Rock

Swampert here was my first candidate for a lead. His ability to use stealth rock and inflict damage to foes was too good to pass up. He lacks the speed provided by more common leads like Aerodactyl but I think he makes up for it with great moves like Ice Beam and Earthquake.

Gengar
Def: 4/Spc.Atk: 252/Spd: 252
Nature:Timid
Ability:Levitate
Item:Life Orb
Shadow Ball
Fire Punch
Focus Blast
Thunderbolt

Gengar is a beast, I found this out the hard way. In this team he is used to switch in on foes and kick em in the nuts with his diverse move pool and huge attack power. I found him to be the best candidate for this role.

Magnezone
HP: 172/Spd: 84/Spc.Atk: 252
Nature:Modest
Ability:Magnet Pull
Item:Leftovers
Hidden Power - Ice
Magnet Rise
Substitute
Thunderbolt

Magenezone is the steel killer here. This guy was just a recommendation to me by a friend and he works out pretty well. Substitute with Magnezone is very affective and allows to set up Magnet Rise while his ability keeps the steel types from going anywhere.

Salamence
HP: 85/Atk: 216/Spd: 208
Nature:Mild
Ability:Intimidate
Item:Life Orb
Draco Meteor
Outrage
Fire Blast
Earthquake

Salamence was always one of my favorites and I was very happy when I found out that he is used in competetive. He's the team's sweeper he comes in kicks ass and leaves. His rediculous attack power and resistance to Earthquale made him the perfect choice for this role.

Infernape
Atk: 64/Spd: 192/Spc.Atk: 252
Nature:Naive
Ability:Blaze
Item:Life Orb
Close Combat
Fire Blast
Grass Knot
Hidden Power - Ice

Infernape is a great pokemon here due to his great speed. He is mostly used as a revenge killer on this team and I really like his ability to use Grass Knot to catch unsuspecting Grass/Ground players off guard (although im still new to competetive so I dont know how many others will be surprised by this). Overall a great choice for revenge since he has the tools for the job: Speed and Power

Scizor
Atk: 254/HP: 248/Spd: 8
Nature:Adamant
Ability:Technician
Item:Choice Band
Bullet Punch
Pursuit
Superpower
U-Turn

Scizor was another one of my favorites who saw great play in competetive. Another choice for revenge killing or just straight out ass kicking here. U-Turn is a great way for him to ditch the move he's stuck on when the opponent switches. Bullet Punch is a great priority move and kills effectivley while Pursuit knocks out the opponent's menacing psychics and Rotoms >.<

Tell me what you think :D any and all help is appreciated please keep in mind this is my first attempt.

Over your current Gengar try Mystic-Gar. With Protect it scouts CB Scizor's move so it can either kill it or switch to Magnezone to trap and kill it. And Fire Punch is physical, use HP Fire. HP Ice on Magnezone is fine, for Dragons and such. You can 2HKO a Scizor with Thunderbolt while he does nothing to your sub.

Also Mix-Mence isnt a sweeper, its a wall breaker. If you want a sweeper try DD Lum Mence. Lum helps with Burns, Paralysis, and Confusion.

Salamence @ Lum Berry
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Attack/ 252 Speed/ 4 Defense
Nature: Naive

-Dragon Dance
-Outrage
-Earthquake
-Fire Blast

Max Attack and Speed for power and sweeping capabilites. Naive nature is because you're running Fire Blast and you don't want Scizor doing more damage to you. Also because Max-Speed is very useful against other Mences, who think you're Neutral nature, and they will win speed tie. Even a -1 Outrage can OHKO a Salamence after SR. DD is the crux of the set. Outrage for STAB and massive power. Fire Blast for Skarms and other steels. Earthquake rounds off the set with more coverage to steels.

Cool thx that seems like a better set up for Salamence but I'm curious as to why Outrage is more commonly used over Draco Meteor? Mystic-Gar also looks really good thx for the help much appreciated :D

Hi there yosimba! :)

Your team currently has a rather large weakness to an offensive Dragon Dance Gyarados, who can easily set up on your Scizor locked into Bullet Punch, as well as your Infernape and your Swampert. It can then dominate your team with a combination of powerful Waterfalls, Earthquakes, and Ice Fangs. I suggest that in order to fix this weakness, you change Infernape to a Vaporeon. Infernape doesn't really fit this team as while he is a good wallbreaker, Gengar can dismantle walls just as handily, so it seems kinda redundant to have two wallbreakers on your team. Use this set:

Vaporeon @ Leftovers | Water Absorb
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
EVs: 188 HP | 252 Def | 68 Spe
~ Surf
~ Wish
~ Protect
~ Hidden Power Electric

Vaporeon is a very nice fit on your team, as with it your team posesses two resistances to every attacking type in the game, barring the almost never used Flying-type attacks. Vaporeon can easily counter Gyarados with her immunity to Water-type attacks and Hidden Power Electric, while also providing the team with nice Wish support.

As far as minor changes go, run Roar over Protect on Swampert, as it allows you to phaze out dangerous sweepers like Calm Mind Latias and Dragon Dance Tyranitar. Also, Fire Punch is a pretty bad option on Gengar; run Explosion instead so that Gengar can OHKO Blissey and other Pokemon when Gengar is low on health. If you do use Explosion, then change to a Naive nature and move 40 EVs from SpA into Atk so that you can guarentee the OHKO on Blissey after Stealth Rock damage. Also, I'm not really sure what is going on with your Salamence's EV spread. Use a spread of 80 HP | 252 SpA | 176 Spe as opposed to what you are currently running, as Salamence's Special Attack stat needs more attention than its attack stat.

Hope I helped, and good luck with your team! :)

Well, it looks good, pretty well balanced, LO Zapdos causes some major problems for this team, except for Salamence really. I would suggest replacing Swampert with a lead Gliscor that can he found here. I just use the stall breaker build and it works well for me. It resists Zapdos in just about everyway, as long as it isn't running HP ice, and can taunt uppers and EQ electric types, set up SR to weaken flying types, and roost of damage, and grab a coffee and file its taxes. You lose some coverage with not having swampert, but for me it usually pays off.

tl;dr: Gliscor >> Swampert.

Um...Life Orb Zapdos is so uncommon that it really is not a concern for his team at all. Even if Life Orb Zapdos was the most used Pokemon in the OU metagame, Gengar can outspeed it and do heavy damage with an STAB Shadow Ball. Also, Gliscor would kinda upset his team balance, as it would give him some problems with Ice-type moves.

Vaporeon seems like a good change from Infernape. I was using him as a Blissey counter but Explosion Gengar seems like it would take care of her faster. Mystic-Gar was a dissappointing change since protect shortened its type coverage and ended up not being very useful :[.
