my first OU team... or first team period..

this is my first team not for in-game play.
i did some research on different pokemon movesets, ev training, and such so i at least understand what i'm talking about. kinda...

anyways, onto the team:

this team doesn't have much notable synergy, aside from vaporeon's wish, mainly i just focused on type coverage and trying not to make redundant inclusions. type-wise this team has absolutely zero issues with fire types, things like charizard and heatran are often killed their first or second turn in battle. grass doesn't bother this team too much and it has plenty of resistances and super-effective moves to take care of them. most other types can be at the very least matched closely by something. water types are my main problem. i don't have any super-effective moves against them so my main strategy against water types is drop my own water type in there and use a neutral damage d-pulse or toxic stall with vaporeon. fortunately kingdra has 4x resistance to water and vaporeon has water absorb so it makes switching in a bit easier.but if vaporeon gets knocked out kingdra will usually just get stalled to death by something like milotic. <- i hat3s the milotic >.<

onto the pokemon :
changes in bold

STEELIX
@ leftovers
ability : sturdy
nature : impish
characteristic : capable of taking hits
EV's : def 252; hp 252; lost track of the rest...
Moveset :
- Earthquake
- Explosion
- Roar
- Stealth Rocks

absolutely imposable to OHKO with an unboosted physical attack, i know your usually supposed to compensate for a wall's weaker defensive stat when ev training but i like the finely purposed feeling to my walls, ( a grand total of 2 ) if i see a potential special attacker i'll just swith out to my special wall and stall with that, and even if i'm caught off-guard by say, something like my flygon i'm usually able to live the hit with just under 50 hitpoints, which at first may seem terrible but i'm usually able to swith into a resisted physical attack meant for vaporeon and catch a wish, and that's if it's super-effective. but if a special sweeper with a stab special attack hits STEELIX he's a gonner as far as his moveset goes, i considered gyro-ball but i feel like if earthquake can't do the trick, it's most likely time to switch or to take them with me. to be honest though, despite his aforementioned survivability he's very much expendable, he's just ment to drop some rocks and do a little scouting while getting some rock damage onto the opponents team.

specific threats he faces are any special sweeper, and above all LUCARIO, i can't know if he's the physical or special lucario, i switch out as quickly as possible, i just can't know if he's special or physical, and even a physical lucario can 2hko with close combat, but if i know for a fact he's physical, i will stay in and knock him out with an earthquake. 2x damage coupled with the def drop ensure that lucario will at the very least be hanging on by a VERY slim thread. most of his other threats are fire-types and water-types. firetypes will be taking some serious damage from rocks and i'll then just switch in a counter, water-types however pose a larger threat as mentioned before. gengar is potentially a larger threat than lucario for much the same reason, if it caries focus blast it's game over for steelix. but vaporeon usually handles gengar fairly well, and if it turns out he doesn't carry focus blast i'll be able to wish-switch bake to steelix and roar him out for later.

METAGROSS
@ leftovers
ability : clear body
nature : hardy
characteristic : likes to fight
EV's : attk 252; speed 252; lost track of the rest...
Moveset :
- Meteor Mash
- Zen Headbutt
- Bullet Punch
- Explosion

for metagross i focussed less on type coverage and more on STAB attacks and high damage, metagross is a faster than average tank that is meant to bruteforce his way through a couple pokemon and explode to take one more with him, his speed investments have definatly paid off, as metagross has outspeed things like dragonite in the past which is a deffinate bonus not having to rely on bullet punch to merely get some more damage in as opposed to finishing it with meteor mash, zen headbutt, or explosion. this is probably the most expendable pokemon on the team as i don't really need him for anything more than muscling some damage in.

threats are pretty much the same as steelix, although as said, metagross is expendable, if he's still very healthy and whatever is threatening metagross won't be a problem to the rest of the team i'll switch out to their counter, a common example is they'll switch in a fire-type, and i'll switch in kingdra and get ready to sweep. but if metagross is already crippled or they switch in a bulky water-type, i'll just explode without a moments hesitation

KINGDRA
@ expert belt < this NEEDS to be replaced; i don't have a spare life orb
ability : swift swim
nature : rash
characteristic : likes to relax
EV's : sp. attk 252; speed 60; sp. def 192; lost track of the rest...
Moveset :
- Surf
- Dragon Pulse
- Ice Beam
- Rain Dance

kingdra is a straight forward special sweeper with some decent type coverage thrown in, in one turn kingdra can set up a rain dance, get a massive speed boost allowing it to outspeed just about everything and boosting his main attack 50%. as long as kingdra has rain dance set up it'll outspeed and OHKO almost any dragon type, he'll muscle his may through anything that takes standard damage from a STAB rain boosted surf, grass-types are handled by ice-beam dragon pulse is to handle other water types with STAB standard damage. however it isn't always enough, things like vaporeon, milotic and other sp. defensive water types will wall kingdra without even trying.

that's kingdra's main weakness, and if i don't have my vaporeon to toxic stall their water-type sp. walls then i'm up a creek without a paddle, unfortunatly this kingdra's hidden power is ice or i'd replace d-pulse with h-power electric in a heartbeat. another problem with kingdra is that his sweep will be easily cut short by a priority attacker, the reason being is that kingdra will usually take a respectable amount of damage from switching in and setting up rain dance. additionally all i have currently for kingdra item-wise is expert belt, i desperately need a replacement and i will take just about any suggestion here.

FLYGON
@ life orb
ability : levitate
nature : naive
characteristic : good endurance
EV's : attk 252; speed 252; lost track of the rest...
Moveset :
- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw
- Fire Blast
- Roost

flygon is my pride and joy, i built this 100% without help of any kind and am very proud of it, i usually bring him out later game when their frailer, faster pokemon have been KOed and the rest of their team is just within OHKO range for flygon, and his moveset ensures nobody escapes flgon's sweep with their resistances. levitate is an amazing ability as it provides a plethora of opportunities to switch in on somebody looking to score a super-effective earthquake on STEELIX or METAGROSS. i considered using garchomp for about 3 seconds, honestly don't even bother asking me to, for 2 reasons, this is my only earthquake immunity, and 2, i wouldn't feel like i'm playing a fair game.

his threats? anything that manages to land a hit on him, his relatively low defensive stats and his life orb damage makes him a fragile target, usually the slower pokemon have been weakened to the point where flygon will score a OHKO, mainly priority attackers and faster sweepers are flygon's biggest threats, if i see a pokemon that can outspeed flygon before i send flygon out, i have to kill it if i want flygon to be of any use later on. period.

ESPEON
@ choice specs
ability : synchronize
nature : timid
characteristic : capable of taking hits
EV's : sp. attk 192ish; speed 252; hp 60ish; lost track of the rest...
Moveset :
- Psychic
- Signal Beam
- Hidden Power (FIRE)
- Trick

espeon's relative frailness means he's mainly a revenge killer that will proceed to sweep as far as he can before he's forced to switch out, he is also my number 2 answer for bulky walls that i can't quite take out with brute force, as long as i get his trick off on a wall it's only a matter of time before it breaks. his movepool allows him to take on most poke's with at least standard damage.

problems i'm having with espeon is that he's dominated by what he's often meant to be switched in on, things like gengar or scizor, at the most espy is a 2hko, most of the time he will only cripple or KO one poke, however tricking a problem wall is absolutely invaluable. i have always loved espy but to be honest he's the first poke i'd replace if i could.

VAPOREON
@ leftovers
ability : water absorb
nature : calm
characteristic : likes to relax
EV's : sp. def 252; hp 252; lost track of the rest...
Moveset :
- Surf <- i'm still considering heal bell
- Toxic
- Wish
- Protect

my specially defensive steelix, but instead of setting up rocks, vaporeon is my plan B for most my poke's especially earlier in the game before i unveil flygon this is what i switch-out to. additionally, he's my teams medic, and my only reliable answer to problem walls aside from a successful trick. vaporon's roll as a toxic staller is beyond amazing, he's so good at this that surf is frankly outclassed, if i really need surf for something like rhperior i have kingdra, so i'm VERY strongly considering changing surf to heal bell.

if it doesn't OHKO vaporeon i'll probably be able to stall them out of super effective moves, if not toxic them to death at the same time. this leaves 4 moves, thunder, thunderbolt, thunder fang, and thunder punch. fortunatly protect lets me see if they plan on using such a move and if they do, i can jsut switch-out to steelix or if i'm rdy to sweep the rest of their team, flygon.
honestly i have little to zero problems with vaporeon.

Umm, if Steelix is that Expendable then Explosion instead of Stone Edge would be nice. That way you can make use of his dying at least.

Keep Vaporeon as it is as far as Movesets go. Putting Heal Bell in for the attempt of Cleric would leave Vap completely Tauntable.

changed stone edge to explode as suggested, i probably wont use heal bell but i'm still considering it because not all taunt user's will be too scared of surf.

Yeah, Heal Bell is an interesting choice. I doubt most people will see it coming. Whatever runs best for you.
