ORAS OU My First OU Team

Hello persons of the interwebs. I've recently been exposed to this forum-place and would like to share the OU team I have been using and interact with you people to help make my team better. This is my first time doing an RMT, so I apologize for any errors. Without further adieu, here goes:

Azumarill @ Life Orb
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Aqua Jet
- Brick Break
- Knock Off
- Play Rough

I like to use Azumarill as my lead, though I not that's not it's best use. I use Aqua Jet for obvious priority and STAB, Brick Break for Ferrothorn, Knock Off to get annoying items out of the way, and Play Rough for Fairy STAB. This poke is used primarily to take out an opposing lead poke or to inflict severe damage.

Manectric-Mega @ Manectite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Flamethrower
- Volt Switch
- Quick Attack

Mega-Man(etric) has become one of my favorite mega evos, as it's great SpA and speed make it a formidable opponent. I'm not too high on the moveset, and would love help for this one.

Swoobat @ Leftovers
Ability: Simple
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Psychic
- Hidden Power [Fighting]
- Roost

Here's one I don't see at all in competitive: Simple Swoobat. I swapped out Unaware Clefable for this poke. Swoobat has Calm Mind, which will raise SpA and SpDef 2(!) stages each time. Swoobat has a use as a complete special wall, and doubles as a sneaky sweeper if opponents don't recognize this set. Roost for HP restoration and HP Fighting to counter Dark types if the need arises.

Gengar @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Sludge Wave
- Sucker Punch
- Hidden Power [Rock]

Gengar is my M-Charizard counter, with his HP Rock. With 2 STAB moves and a priority move, Gengar is a great switch-in poke that can do some damage.

Serperior @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Contrary
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Leaf Storm
- Dragon Pulse
- Glare
- Knock Off

Obligatory Contrary Leaf Storm Serperior. Glare to slow down opponents and maybe get a free attacking turn, Dragon Pulse to counter dragons and generally do damage if Leaf Storm is super resisted.

Excadrill @ Life Orb
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Iron Head
- Poison Jab

Finally, Excadrill. With Mold Breaker, Excadrill is a reliable Rotom stopper. Stone Edge will counter M-Zard and other flying types, Iron Head to deal with Fairy types, and Poison Jab to counter Grass types.

Well, that's my team. They perform fairly decent for me, though I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks for reading this whole thing!

Hey man, welcome to Smogon! It's a wonderful place to really interact in a community and become a better and more educated battler.
With that being said, everything I'm about to say is merely a suggestion, do not take offense. :]
First let's begin with Azumarill.
Azumarill
can be really effective lead in ORAS OU simply because many people tend to lead with their Dragon/Ground/Rock type pokemon in order to get stealth rocks up immediately. I don't think it's really smart to ever have a 100% lead pokemon [unless it's that pokemon's literal only job (i.e. Stealth Rock lead Azelf, Sash lead Infernape etc..)] rather, look at the team matchups and determine which pokemon on your side has the best matchup and lead with that. If you want to learn more about pokemon leads, there are a few videos out there, I recommend MrJamvad's video about lead pokemon.
Moving on, let's get into the set. I think a good idea for you since it seems you like power is to run Choice Band Azumarill > Life Orb. The moves set is below:
Azumarill @ Choice Band
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 96 HP / 252 Atk / 160 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Aqua Jet
- Waterfall
- Play Rough
- Knock Off / Superpower
You may keep either Knock Off or Superpower, but only choose one or the other. Waterfall is crucial on Azumarill as Aqua Jet does not touch things like Hippowdon or Scizor.
Next, Mega-Manectric. Mega-Manectric is one of the most feared Mega Pokemon in the current OU metagame due to its high Spe stat complimented with a decent SpA stat. Not only that it gets great coverage, but we must take advantage of it!
Because of this I recommend HP Ice > Quick Attack. HP Ice is just nice. It almost ohkoes defensive Chomp and makes sure that ground types cannot come in without being punished. Also, be sure to run a Timid > Hasty Nature. Mega-Manectric should ALWAYS 100% be a 252SpA / 252Spe Timid Nature.
I agree, Swoobat has one of the coolest abilities in the game, Simple, however due to it's lackadaisical defensive stat it should not be used in OU. Not only that, you have no form of hazard removal. As a result, I recommend Latios > Swoobat. This allows for you to have access to Defog, a move that removes hazards and screens which is very important. The latios set is seen below:
Latios (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psyshock
- Draco Meteor
- Hidden Power [Fire] / Roost
- Defog
Next is Gengar. I'm confused what this Gengar's role is. Gengar can be ran in two ways: Offensive Pressure or Utility Mon with ailments.
It LOOKS to me you were headed towards to more offensive route, so I'll pass you the offensive Gengar set:
Gengar @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Taunt
- Sludge Wave
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast
However, I will also give you the support set:
Gengar @ Black Sludge
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 12 HP / 244 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Substitute
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast / Sludge Bomb
The 12 EV's in HP have something to do with a Perfect Substitute number, something I won't go into. Another thing to note on Gengar is that because it is a Poison type pokemon, make sure to run Black Sludge > Leftovers.
Just a side note :)
Moving on to Serperior. Serperior is lacking the same issue the Manectric had, it's missing a Timid Nature. Other than that, the only thing I see to change is HP Fire > Knock Off. There is really no point for Knock Off especially if Azumarill already uses it.
Finally Excadrill. I notice you do not have any ways of getting up Stealth Rocks so something I recommend is SpD Excadrill > LO Excadrill. I'm also confused about Stone Edge on it because it doesn't get Stone Edge, Meanwhile:
Excadrill @ Leftovers
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 248 HP / 228 SpD / 32 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Toxic
- Iron Head
- Earthquake
There you have it man! I hope you appreciate the amount of feedback I gave you! If you have any questions leave them below or contact me!
Maybe you could check me out on YT? I would appreciate it deeply :]
Thanks man!

Sorry about the Excadrill thing. It was a last minute change that I thought of. Oops. I think I'll try the support Gengar set, as I could definitely use a support mon. Basically, my entire team is me trying to be hyper-offensive. I'll use the setsyou rcommended and run through a few battles real quick. Maybe I'll leave some replays in my next reply. I really appreciate the tips. I'm new to competitive, and don't have a great mind for this stuff as others do. I'll keep tryinf though. Thanks!

It's totally fine. I'm here to help you! I know that as a new battler it can be hard to stray from your roots and trust what others are telling/giving you.. but it is in your best interest. (if the person helping knows anything of what they're talking about)
Good luck!

Well, I can't seem to even break 1100 with this team. I've done a lot better using your suggestions, but I don't believe this team can work together. Thanks for the help though. I'm going to disbandthe team and start over from scratch

Okay man don't be too hard on yourself!

The problem with Swoobat is that it just isn't very good, even at +2 SpAtk and SpDef. Even with max defensive investment its level 100 defensive stats at +2 are 275, 229, and 146 (292 at +2).

I would recommend replacing it with Stall Breaker Togekiss

Togekiss Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP/ 76 Def/ 4 SpD/ 176 Spe
Nature: Timid
- Dazzling Gleam/ Air Slash
- Fireblast/ Thunderwave/ Heal Bell
- Nasty Plot
- Roost

Unfortunately, this team has way too many weaknesses. First off change Posion Jab to Rapid Spin or Swords Dance. Excadrill doesnt have a hard time with fairies and it deals a considerable amount of damage to anything coming in. Rapid spin will help with hazards which is always good, but imo excadrill isnt really too good of a reliable hazard removal so id suggest running Latios or Latias for defog. Swords Dance will give it a chance to set up to sweep which is also good as well, but imo if you want exca to be a reliable cleaner/sweeper then id suggest running sand rush on it and throw a tyranitar on your team (which i would highly suggest considering you're lati weak and ttar can be a pursuit trapper to help out). Next, its cool that you want to run something like swoobat, but going up against things like bisharp, mons that have priority and on top of that rocks doing alot of damage to it when it comes in can really give it and your team a hard time. Id suggest you take that out for one of the Latis.

Gengar @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Sludge Wave
- Focus Blast
- Taunt
^ Id suggest using this gengar set instead of the one you have. gengar is most definitely not a zard y counter. gengar will get destroyed coming on a sun boosted zard y fire blast.

252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Gengar in Sun: 397-468 (153.2 - 180.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO < my point

Now for Azumarill, Life Orb is a nono. you dont want azu losing health as it does its attack. Choice Band or Sitrus Berry are better items. Imo, your team needs the belly drum set. Belly drum is really good as azu opens up alot of sweeping opportunities.

Azumarill @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 92 HP / 252 Atk / 164 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Belly Drum
- Aqua Jet
- Play Rough
- Knock Off
^ This is the set youll be needing.

So basically run a lati and change a few things on the mons i mentioned and you should be good.

If you're keen on sticking with Swoobat, Stored Power > Psychic on a boosting set and Kee Berry > Leftovers IMO. Kee Berry means when you take a phsyical hit you're getting +2 defense, which you should be able to do against a resisted hit.

Once at the +2 defense mark, you can take strong hits from most of the unboosted meta - so long as they aren't STAB and super effective - fairly easily:

252 Atk Tough Claws Mega Charizard X Outrage vs. +2 252 HP / 252+ Def Swoobat: 132-156 (39 - 46.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

And after a Calm Mind and Kee Berry boost, Stored Power hits hard in return:

+2 4 SpA Swoobat Stored Power (140 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Charizard X: 280-330 (94.2 - 111.1%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO

You have Roost for recovery so you don't really need to run Leftovers recovery. After 3 Calm Minds there's little stopping you:

+6 4 SpA Swoobat Stored Power (260 BP) vs. 4 HP / 252 SpD Eviolite Chansey: 460-543 (71.6 - 84.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
4 SpA Swoobat Stored Power (260 BP) vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Unaware Clefable: 246-289 (62.5 - 73.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

I'm not saying Swoobat is a great set here, but if you want to run it those are the changes I'd make.
