My first rain team! :D

So I've been looking at the top of the ladder and I realized that it is all weather... every last team soooooo I decided to try out a weather team for myself, and, being the most versatile, I decided on rain. This team has had quite a bit of success, currently at around 600 on the ladder having lost only 3 matches and then being tweaked. Without further ado, here it is:

Politoed (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Hydro Pump
- Psychic
- Ice Beam
- Focus Blast

Scarf toed makes killing other weather starters quite easy, as well as other common "leads". Hydro Pump is main stab, leaving a dent in the entire meta. The rest are for coverage. Scarf turns toed into an extremely viable offensive presence and keeps him from becoming dead-weight.

Gyarados (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake

Gyarados is here simply because I wanted a strong, physical set-up sweeper and I felt feraligater just didn't have the coverage I was looking for, though stab aqua jet was very nice. Basically comes in on something it resists, sets up, and attempts a sweep. I'm open to changes with gyara.

170px-121Starmie.png

Starmie @ Life Orb
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Thunder
- Hydro Pump
- Rapid Spin
- Thunder Wave

Starmie is a fantastic clean up sweeper, as well as my rapid spinner which, with the frequent switching, is quite necessary.

143px-641Tornadus.png

Tornadus (M) @ Choice Specs
Trait: Defiant
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Hurricane
- U-turn
- Hidden Power [Electric]
- Focus Blast

Tornadus is definitely my MVP. After taking out anything that outspeeds it (few things), it can tear the meta apart with specs hurricane. Between Hurricane for ridiculous damage (with luck, can 2hko blissey), focus blast for coverage, u-turn for scouting, and hp electric for my annoying gyarados weakness+filler, tornadus is an absolute monster and will never leave the team.

180px-272Ludicolo.png

Ludicolo (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Rain Dish
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Giga Drain
- Substitute
- Leech Seed
- Scald

Ludicolo is my special wall. Usually subs after forcing a switch or a weak attack, can seed or attack. I would like to use a different poke here possibly but for now ludi works fine.

215px-205Forretress.png

Forretress (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Stealth Rock
- Counter
- Volt Switch
- Spikes

Forry is my physical wall, setting up hazards and tanking hits. Counter may seem an odd choice but I can't tell you how many times my opponent has sent out something like banded haxorus or dd salamence and I can't outspeed and kill with any poke and forry is the only one who can tank the hit... but that's all he can do. Sit there and tank. Counter solved that problem. If i switch forry to ferro, I can switch ludi to a dif special wall but forry has worked fine so far.

I guess I have to be the first to give you a real rate so here it goes.

Your entire team could be KOed by Defensive Thunder Dragonite. You only have one ice move, which against full special wall dragonite will only do about 1/2 if your lucky, by then you could be dragon tailed. You also have no roar, whirlwind, dragon tail, etc on your team so what will you do if you incorrectly read your opponent and gets off several stat boosts. Your entire team is weak to the same redundant types, and you abuse the rain almost too much. Your Politoed has no assisting moves, at least perish song would help stop baton pass team in there tracks. Politoed has no reason to use psychic. Also whats your defense against the to common chansey, hoping you haven't lost gyarados yet. You need a back up. Your ev's and the rain make forretress extreamly weak to water, which is one of the most common types today. There is also not point in spending the time spamming spikes, etc without a spin blocker. Starmie is to fragile to set up status conditions. My suggested changes are below.

Change Psychic on Politoed to Perish Song

Change Earthquake on Gyarados to Roar

Change Thunder Wave on Starmie to Ice Beam

I would change Fortress to a different area hazard user, maybe skarm, or ferro, or even tentacruel.

Well that should get you thinking, remember you don't have to take my suggestions, just look into them.
Good Luck, Vemane

expand your descriptions a bit. Rule #3 for clarification.

Specs latios could cruise throguh this team, abusing thunder, or almost anything that can abuse electric moves.

And Please explain more to make a more helpful rate :)

You have 4 electric weaknesses and no resists. Something scarfed with t-bolt and good special attack... Zapdos maybe? Could demolish you

Hey man, you're definitely going to have some serious problems with Electic-type Pokemon as stated a few times above. Basically, Ludicolo really isn't doing much for you and you want to replace it, well despite that you're using Forretress, you could still run Ferrothorn along side it to adequately dispense entry hazards and also maintain rapid spinning duties on your team between the two. Ferrothorn will greatly patch how sorely weak you are too Electric-type moves, while providing many opportunities too Spike, which will clear up a space on Forretress to fit on Rapid Spin, which will also be needed big time too keep Tornadus and Gyarados in good condition. Standard Spiker Ferrothorn will do just fine. Now with that take care of, Starmie's usefulness has dropped significantly, and it just another Electric weakness for you, a Latios over Starmie will again greatly patch up some team synergy issues, Offensive LO recover Latios will be a great fit on your team both offensively and as a great plethora of resistances as well. Here is the Ferrothorn and Latios sets:

Ferrothorn (F) @ Leftovers
EVs: 252 HP / 68 Def / 188 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Leech Seed
- Spikes
- Thunder Wave
- Power Whip

Latios (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Draco Meteor / Dragon Pulse
- Psyshock / Thunder
- Surf
- Recover

You can play around with the movesets and customize more too your playstyle if you'd like, good luck!

Hi Vemane,

Same as previous said, you need something against Electric typing and need to change a few things because some moves and choices aren't the best there.
First, you have a Starmie@Rapid Spin and a Forretress. Why both in the same Team ? I agree with Zephyr, Ferrothorn is the best choice instead of Forretress. You see why ? Ferrothorn works indredibly well in Rain first, and it takes shit on Electric moves. Another important thing, Ferrothorn helps you against Latios, Latias, Rotom-W which can be really annoying for you. Last thing, it does the same job than your Forretress, it means set up Spikes / Stealth Rock, but well better. Use that =>

Ferrothorn (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 8 Def / 248 SDef
Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spd)
- Stealth Rock
- Leech Seed
- Power Whip
- Thunder Wave

Now, I agree once again with Zephyr for using a Latios in your Team, but not instead of Starmie, I'll prefer instead of Ludicolo, the weak link of the Team. You have some trouble with Virizion, Celebi, etc, and Latios helps a lot there. Another thing about your moves. Thunder Wave is useless on Starmie, use Recover because you need keeping Starmie alive for Spinning. Last thing, on Gyarados. Use Substitute and Bounce instead of Stone Edge and Earthquake. And use Moxie instead of Intimidate which helps for a Late Game Sweep.

Latios (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Surf
- Recover

GL with this Team !

you coukld use electivire over starmie or tornadus for the elctric immunity which will stop opponents from firing off eletricity. also i think celebi does better than starmie pretty much hands down. maybe o ver ludicolo

I love tornadus but your set is bad. Replace Defiant with Prankster, and replace HP [electric] and focus blast or u-turn with tailwind and Rain Dance. RD gives you a chance to restore the weather if poli is dead, and tailwind is like a last ditch move that in endgame comes in handy a lot; trust me. besides, if you're not u-turning out, you should be hurricane spamming with a vengeance.
