This is my first ‘Rate My Team’ attempt so if there’s anything wrong with the format, please feel free to correct me.
I’ve been using this team on Pokèmon Online’s Smogon server to moderate success. It peaked at around 938/10,566, I believe. After I break the 1,000 barrier, however, I have difficulty climbing higher, so I figured I would seek help from the community. Keep in mind that I’m not too good at coming up with ev spreads so for the most part the spreads are taken from Smogon’s analysis section. This is where I will need the most help and advice as there are at least three Pokèmon on my team that have ‘custom’ spreads.
My Team:
Name: Hitmontop @ Expert Belt
Role: Lead, Revenge Killer, Rapid Spinner
Move 1: Fake Out
Move 2: Mach Punch
Move 3: Sucker Punch
Move 4: Rapid Spin
Ability: Technician
Nature: Adamant
evs: 236 HP / 252 Atk / 20 Def
I’ve found Hitmontop to be invaluable. He can Revenge common threats such as Tyranitar, Excadrill and, surprisingly, Latios, as well as others. He’s surprisingly bulky in the spdef department and can take a hit. The ev’s are a basic spread and work well with Technician and Expert Belt. As stated above, for the most part ev’s are generally taken from Somogon’s analysis section.
Name: Vaporeon @ Leftovers
Role: Cleric, Phaser
Move 1: Heal Bell
Move 2: Roar
Move 3: Wish
Move 4: Ice Beam
Ability: Water Absorb
Nature: Bold
evs: 252 Hp / 200 Def / 56 Speed
One of my most effective Pokèmon. Heal Bell, Wish, and Roar, when combined with Vaporeon’s bulk, work amazingly well together. Also, with the ability ‘Water Absorb,’ I get a free switch when someone comes after Volcarona. Again the ev’s are most likely from the analysis found on Smogon.
Name: Volcarona @ Leftovers
Role: Mid-Late Game Sweeper
Move 1: Quiver Dance
Move 2: Fiery Dance
Move 3: Bug Buzz
Move 4: HP Ground
Ability: Flame Body
Nature: Bold
evs: 96 HP / 232 Def / 176 SAtk
This is one Pokèmon whose ev spread I created, somewhat arbitrarily. I knew I wanted Volcarona to be bulky, and it is. It takes physical attacks of all types, sometimes burning my opponents sweeper, except Rock. Physical attacks usually cannot touch it, and with Wish support from Vaporeon, and Spin support from Hitmontop, when played right, this thing is a beast & I usually get it up to +4 SAtk with Quiver/Fiery Dance.
Name: Ferrothorn @ Rocky Helmet
Role: Physical Wall, Entry Hazard set up
Move 1: Gyro Ball
Move 2: Curse
Move 3: Spikes
Move 4: Stealth Rock
Ability: Iron Barbs
Nature: Relaxed
evs: 204 HP / 168 Atk / 136 Def (0 speed iv’s)
Ferrothorn is the final member of the ‘Grass/Water/Fire core,’ and an amazing counter to Dragons. It is also the second Pokèmon on this team who’s ev spread I created. They are again arbitrary and if anyone has advice to make them better, please feel free. I love the combination of Iron Barbs and Rocky helmet. If I come in on a Dragon locked into Outrage, I will usually do more damage to it while ‘Cursing’ or setting up spikes. This brings us to my favorite Pokèmon of all time:
Name: Espeon @ Light Clay
Role: Dual Screen support
Move 1: Light Screen
Move 2: Reflect
Move 3: Psychic
Move 4: Grass Knot
Ability: Magic Bounce
Nature: Bold
evs: 196 HP / 116 Def / 196 SDef
Another arbitrary ev spread, I knew I wanted her to be bulky and be able to set up screens as many times as possible. With Reflect up she usually survives at least one pursuit and can then be healed by Vaporeon. Grass Knot was put in for coverage and helps against weakened Tyranitar and a few others like, Jellicent, and Starmie. I absolutely love Magic Bounce and it certainly gives Espeon a new and very helpful role.
Name: Scizor @ Choice Band
Move: Scout, Revenge Killer, and sometimes late-game Physical Sweeper
move1: Bullet Punch
move2: Bug Bite
move3: U-Turn
move4: Super Power
ability: Technician
nature: Adamant
evs: 116 HP / 208 Atk / 184 SpD
Scizor is dead weight most time and generally doesn’t see and play. It also seems redundant to have a second Technician/priority user who shares a 4x Fire weakness with Ferrothorn. Scizor was randomly selected and is my most replaceable Pokèmon, any suggestions will be appreciated.
My most common threats: the three genies.
