This is my first RMT, so please let me know what I can do to improve this. I've tested it out quite a bit on Showdown with mostly positive results.
The defensive core of this team is Hippowdon and Vaporeon. When threatened by an impending ground / rock attack, Hippowdon comes in and tanks the hit. Though it depends on the team, Hippowdon is typically used to lay down Stealth Rock, then Whirlwind as often as possible to weaken Talonflame, Charizard, Zapdos, Gyarados and other threats that could derail my team otherwise. If faced with a Water pokemon, Vaporeon comes in with Water Absorb. Depending on the threat, Vaporeon spreads statuses (Scald for physical threats, Toxic + Wish + Protect for other tanks) and weakens bulky pokemon that need to be out of the way for a late-game sweep. Vaporeon can also shrug off Sandstorm hits, so the fact that the rest of my team doesn't leverage Sandstorm isn't an issue.
Though these two have some synergies as a core, the glaring weakness is Grass. This is a chance for Charizard X to get in and set up. Of course, many grass builds carry a rock move for the switch-in. If that's likely the case, keep stalling until Vaporeon or Hippowdon are almost done, then take the KO to switch in Charizard X without taking a hit. Rock attacks can be tanked when Mega Evolving. Along with DD, sweeping is very possible.
If Spore is suspected, Breloom can switch in instead of Charizard, though it likely can't to much to another Grass type. Breloom also enables revenge kills on Dark types, which is a type my team would otherwise have a big problem with. Focus Sash means a guaranteed Spore, and Bullet Seed keeps Substitute users from walling me. Breloom takes care of two big OU threats: Talonflame and Rotom-W. Talonflame won't come in on Hippowdon or Vaporeon, but once Breloom is in and the opponent is mismatched, Rock Tomb is used on the switch in. If it's nor predicted correctly and Talonflame gets in unscathed, Focus Sash guarantees a Spore, which gives a free turn for Rock Tomb (can miss, that's why spore first). For Rotom-W, even with Will-O-Wisp, Bullet Seed takes it down in two turns more of the time.
So there are the four I came up with first. For Breloom to be effective with Focus Sash, entry hazards and weather can't be up. Charizard cannot switch-in pre-mega with Stealth Rock on the field, so Defog is necessary. With Breloom and Charizard as Physical attackers, I needed a Special Nuke. Add those needs up and you get Latios / Latias.
I was still missing a good lead. Mixed Aegislash is one of my favorites. Unless their lead has Earthquake (in which case I switch to Hippowdon), Aegislash can take on almost anything. Shadow Ball hits stupid-hard and King's Shield is great for mind games. User switches to Blissey? Sacred Sword is a OHKO. Shadow Sneak is great to unsuspecting 2HKO after Shadow Ball and tanking a hit likely in Shield form. My team was also missing something immune to Toxic (which Vaporeon hates) as well as a Spin Blocker to keep Stealth Rock up. Ground pokemon are still a bit of a problem, so I considered Air Balloon to let Aegislash hit Diggersby and Excadrill with Shadow Ball with a one-time ground immunity, but the balloon always ends up popping before then since Aegislash is the lead. I suppose Glisor is a common lead, so Air Balloon would really help there. Might switch that back.
TL:DR
Aegislash leads and punches holes into the team right from the start. Hippowdon and Vaporeon tag team to get hazards up, spread statuses and tank hits thoughout the game. The end goal is to bring Charizard in and set up DD - everything else is a means to that end. If played right, Latios doesn't come in until right before Charizard if there are hazards, using Defog, Draco Meteor, getting KO'ed and bringing in Charizard without damage.
Let me know what you think and where I can improve! Thanks!
