OU TEAM
Hi all! I've been playing on the Smogon server for a while and i have been testing a lot of new strategies for OU teams. Sometimes I make very successful teams that peaks me 1100plus and sometimes I change team members that get me below 1000 *sniff*. Anyway, this is my current OU team and I would like some help to make this team better.
TEAM BUILDING:
First, I wanted my team to be based around scrafty because I have heard that he can sweep if he sets up right. I like the bulk up set with shed skin rather than moxie because scrafty can die a lot from conkellderp's mach punches.
I then needed some special sweepers since scrafty needs some backup to take care of physical walls such as gliscor. Starmie was my first choice since it possess awesome speed, rapid spin and decent special attack, with access to hydro-pump, thunderbolt, and ice-beam which are nearly perfect coverage.
Gengar was my next choice as it has been my favorite pokemon since gen 1. I chose him so i can stop choiced pokemon such as latios or scizor and get a free sub so i can sweep.
I was lacking a revenge killer and so garchomp was my next choice as he could easily outspeed a lot of pokemon when it has a scarf. Its outrage and earthquake OHKO's or 2HKO's anything that doesn't resist it.
Sadly, the shark dragon was dragged to ubers along with its alone non-legendary friends, Excadrill and Blaziken. So Landorus was my next choice and did surprisingly well especially in sandstorm teams.
I needed a pokemon who could resist ice type moves comming to landorus and also a pokemon who could attack pokemon who are locked into outrage, and so scizor was my next pick as he could do both of these with ease. He also acted like another revenge killer.
Wobbuffet was my next choice because he is a good poke for trapping revenge killers and get at least 1 kill in a match. Having an excellent HP stat, makes it harder to OHKO. I normally switch wobbuffett into choiced pokemon like scizor, latios or Landorus as it is a definite KO.
Hazards and weather were sometimes a problem, so i picked this magician that eats dinner with two spoons as he can switch into toxic spikes and other hazards and sweep. Alakazam can also act as a status absorber if there are toxic spikes around.
TEAM AT A GLANCE

THE TEAM IN DETAIL
THE USUAL LEAD
Starmie @ Expert Belt
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Hydro Pump
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Rapid Spin
A lot of people usually send out a suicide leads with spikes or stealth rock such as Heatran or foretress and don't realize that they will just waste their turn setting up entry hazards then getting killed by my starmie, making my starmie free to enjoy rapid spinning without worrying about more entry hazards being thrown into my property. Hydro Pump is my main STAB move. I was surprised at how much damage Hydro Pump could do. I didn't pick surf as 80% accuracy is enough to sweep. Ice beam and thunderbolt is for coverage, especially for those gliscors and dragonites who laugh at every pokemon.
THE SPECIAL SWEEPER
Alakazam (M) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Magic Guard
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Psychic
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Shadow Ball
With the release of Alakazam's new Dream World ability, Magic Guard, Alakazam's tier completely changes from nearly NU all the way up...to OU....yay! I can see why he got moved because he is able to switch in whenever he wants to not having to worry about damage from entry hazards and status apart from thunderwave. Ferrothorn is a huge threat to my team, but alakazam takes care of ferrothorn with HP fire. Ferrothorns get very annoyed with the spoon man as they will scratch their steel head with their claws and wonder why they are not receiving any health from leech seed. I love alakazam and do I do not want to switch with the jelly bear reuniclus. I tried Life Orbed Alakazam but having a focus sash is a lot better because I can get a second shot a sweeping. Psychic is the main STAB, hitting hard on pokemon who dont resist it. Focus Blast is risky but takes care of heatran. Shadow Ball and HP fire is for coverage.
THE REVENGE KILLER
Landorus (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Sand Force
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SAtk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- U-turn
Landorus is the best revenge killer in the OU metagame. Landorus is also another backup to gliscor, with HP ice. Landorus mainly kills huge threats such as salamance, volcarona, ddnite. Earthquake is my main STAB to kill tyranitars and speedy specs jolteon. If i am versing a sandstorm team, I am pretty confident I can win as my Landorus is my main check for sandstorm teams and sandstorm teams are pretty common nowadays compared with other weather teams. U-turn is for scouting if i have doubts. Many Latias/Latios switch into landorus predicting earthquake but are then shocked and damaged harshly by my U-turn.
THE PHYSICAL SWEEPER
Scizor (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Pursuit
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Superpower
Scizor is a great revenge killer and kills dragon-type threats that are locked into outrage. the Lati twins fear scizor and are 2KOed by pursuit. Bullet Punch is my main sweeping move, which takes care of Terrakion and Landorus nicely. Superpower is for Heatran and magnezone, thinking that they could kill my steel bug. Superpower is also for ferrothorn, 2KOing it. Scizor also has great resistance, blocking types that are super effective to Scizor's other teammates such as grass, dragon, ice, dark, ghost, bug.
THE TRAPPER
Wobbuffet (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Shadow Tag
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Encore
- Mirror Coat
- Counter
- Destiny Bond
Wobbuffet kills pokemon that walls his other teammates attacks. Wobbuffet loves to be attacked and then countering strong attacks. The EV spread is for surviving extremely strong attacks that are boosted like +2 earthquake from gliscor. Blissey is also scared as the main attack from blissey is seismic toss, making me 4kO Blissey, while Blissey struggles to 6KO me because of his awesome HP. However, if wobbuffet predicts wrongly, it's goodbye to the blue creeper.(lol minecraft)
THE PHYSICAL SWEEPER AND WALL
Scrafty (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Shed Skin
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Bulk Up
- Drain Punch
- Rest
- Crunch
Scrafty has a unique typing, immune to psychic and resists dark and ghost which are commonly aimed at alakazam. Scrafty's fighting typing makes scrafty receive less damage from stealth rocks if starmie is unable to rapid spin. I chose Bulk Up over Dragon Dance because scrafty needs to make use of his fantastic bulk and attack at the same time. Shed Skin is over moxie to annoy brelooms and jellicents. The EV spread is for walling both special and physical threats. Rest was put over Ice Punch for a more reliable recovery and sometimes Scrafty can immediately wake up because of Shed Skin, thank you eccenditto
