Hello,
It has been a while since I've been here, and I wanted to use the same team as I did in Diamond/Platinum (don't have Pearl), which I want to have as much flexibility as possible, while competitive at the same time. I was not sure if the team I used in the 4th generation will do as well in the 5th generation, which is why I would like some recommendations to improving the team, and if anything should be changed and/or replaced in order to make it more effective.
Starmie @ Life Orb
Ability: Natural Cure
Nature: Timid
EVs: (6 HP, 252 Spa, 252 Spe)
Move 1 - Grass Knot
Move 2 - Hydro Pump
Move 3 - Rapid Spinner
Move 4 - Thunderbolt
Purpose: Starmie will be the one that leads my team, and that is to prevent lead sweepers from ruining my team (ex. Infernape). Grass Knot was added to eliminate threats like Rotom-W, and any other pokemons that Thunderbolt & Hydro Pump can't deal with. Thunderbolt is there to eliminate any other water-type trying to stall. Hydro Pump is for STAB.
Heatran @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
Nature: Naive
Evs (6 SpD, 252 SpA, 252 Spe)
Move 1 - Earth Power
Move 2 - Flamethrower
Move 3 - Hidden Power Ice
Move 4 - Overheat
Purpose: Most of the time, Heatran is pulled out when one of my pokemon is knocked out. Heatran is also used as a primary sweeper around the end of the battle. Overheat is for STAB, and Flamethrower is there in case Overheat won't be enough to KO an opposing pokemon, or if I don't want his damage to go down. Earth Power is there for deal with fire-type possibly trying to stall. HP Ice is added for deal with Gliscor, and other similar type pokemon, which this has a capital T written all over it.
Gyarados @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
Nature: Adamant
EVs: (156 HP, 74 Atk, 96 Def, 184 Spd)
Move 1 - Dragon Dance
Move 2 - Stone Edge
Move 3 - Taunt
Move 4 - Waterfall
Purpose: My primary sweeper in the team. Taunt is my insurance in case of pokemons that would stop the dragon dance sweep pattern. Dragon Dance is there in order to properly sweep. Waterfall is there for STAB, and Stone Edge is there for coverage against most flying-type.
Lucario @ Life Orb
Ability: Inner Focus
Nature: Adamant
EVs: (6 HP, 252 Atk, 252 Spd)
Move 1 - Bullet Punch
Move 2 - Close Combat
Move 3 - Extremespeed
Move 4 - Swords Dance
Purpose: My alternative to Gyarados, just with some problems bringing him out in the battle due to not being bulky (brought out when there is an opening in the battle). Sword Dance is there in order to properly sweep. Extremespeed is there to deal with most speedy pokemon. Bullet Punch is my insurance in case Extremespeed fails to do it's job. Close Combat is there for STAB.
Rotom-W @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Modest
EVs: (112 HP, 252 SpA, 144 Spe)
Move 1 - Hydro Pump
Move 2 - Pain Split
Move 3 - Thunderbolt
Move 4 - Will-O-Wisp
Purpose: Was going to to use Rotom-H, but it's now underused, so I just replaced it with this pokemon. Hydro Pump and Thunderbolt is there for STAB. Will-O-Wisp is for stalling. Pain Split is to even the odds with certain pokemon that may have a gross amount of HP in comparison to Rotom-W, and another way to recover lost HP.
Bronzong @ Leftovers
Ability: Heatproof
Nature: Sassy
EVs: (252 HP, 86 Atk, 80 Def, 92 SDef) (IV 2 Spd)
Move 1 - Earthquake
Move 2 - Gyro Ball
Move 3 - Hidden Power Ice
Move 4 - Stealth Rock
Purpose: Bronzong is the tank in my team, and will shrug off most of the hits, and if possible, set up Stealth Rock. Earthquake is there for coverage against Magnezone, and other similar pokemon. Gyro Ball is there for STAB, and for the big damage it deals, thanks to the very low speed. HP Ice is there for Gliscor, and other similar pokemon. I picked Heatproof as my ability, since most people will think that Bronzong has Levitate early in the battle, which I believe will come in handy to fool players.
Here some some alternatives for my team pokemon team, but I don't have much proof that they will be an essential to my team:
- Dragonite (Possible sweeper in my team)
- Espeon (Possible sweeper or dual screen for the team)
- Gengar (Possible replacement for Rotom-W)
- Haxorus (Possible sweeper in my team)
- Hydreigon (Possible sweeper in my team)
- Metagross (Possible replacement for Bronzong)
- Salamence (Possible sweeper in my team)
- Tyranitar (Possible sweeper in my team)
- Vaporeon (Possible bulky pokemon in my team)
- Venusaur (Possibel sweeper in my team)
- Virizion (Possible sweeper in my team)
* I used to have Gengar & Tyranitar in my team in Diamond/Platinum, but there were some complications with Tyranitar for the team, and Gengar was replaced by Rotom-H. The changes in Black/White made me think of adding them again, but I'm not sure if it's a good idea.
** Salamence was originally in my team, but was replaced by Hetran in Diamond/Platinum due to being in the Uber tier. Since it is a OU again, I thought of adding it back in the team, but I'm not sure.
