Nah, I'm not really into Pokemon

Do you still play Pokemon?

So, after observing the old Cong/Firebot for a while, I've noticed that it seems most of the people who frequent these forums don't play Pokemon competitively much anymore. It seems like most of us are ex-players, but still find Smogon/IRC appealing enough to still come back.

So, merely from a curiosity standpoint, how many of you still play competitively? Casually? Not at all? I myself only play casually (nuzlockes and shit, fuck yeah) but I'll go on a simulator once every couple months and make a team.

Also, I figured this thread would fit best in a forum
BUT I DIDN'T KNOW WHICH ONE LOLOLOLOLOL

I used to love competitive UU, but it got really boring because I sucked. (The fact that I have the check mark next to my name is extremely confusing. I'm not exactly sure how I did it.) I promised myself I would start playing again when Heracross dropped, but I knew I was lying to myself, and, lo and behold, I was lying. Then I promised myself I would start playing again when a B/W testing started because the major amounts of chaos would be very fun. I lied again. Now, I only play casually/in-game.

EDIT: You should add as an option to the poll, "Yes, but I only play casually/in-game."
EDIT2: I should also add that in-game, I pay attention to natures, but not EVs or IVs.

I used to play competitively but I don't have the patience for that anymore though I am still very fond on 2vs2. I am more of an in-game person now.

i don't own a cartridge more recent than pearl, and i have no plans to buy any new ones. i'm not interested in playing gen v in japanese, and even if i were, i can't run pokemon online until i buy a new computer, which isn't likely to happen soon since this one works fine.

Yes, I still play casually and occasionally battle on simulators
I still RNG Abuse big time and I played Wi-Fi for a short while. It became tedious and I hated pc++ for worthless posts like "OU anyone?" and the overall childish drama in the Wi-Fi forum. At the moment I am breeding and raising Pokémon strictly for Battle Tower, so it's *sort of* casual. I play on PO a couple times a week but it's not every day, and I suck at laddering.

I've never played competitively, so I can't contribute to most of Smogon. I post in this section and Ruins of Alph for the most part.

Pokemon's my favorite game, and I play it casually every day. Competitive play has many merits, but I prefer the storyline and aesthetics of regular "in-game" play.

Having said that, I hope to battle competitively soon. I'm still reading up on it, and I'm waiting for the B/W competitive scene to be more established before I try to learn.

Stopped battling as much because BW is terrible right now. Also crap at laddering because I only play 2-3 battles a day even on a simulator before getting bored. Still hop on shoddy/PO sometimes though. Had literally 2 or 3 wifi battles, they aren't really worth it imo because it takes forever to get a team when I could just assemble one in 2 minutes, and I change teams every week unless it's a good team. Maybe once this drizzle/sand crap settles I'll play again.

I don't battle competitively much, but I still do some speedruns - currently working on completing Colosseum in one sitting as fast as possible (not 100%, that would be too annoying).

I play competitively on simulators; but usually only a few times a week, and I've never been a star player or anything. I've never played comp on a cartridge before, but I own every cartridge bar Red, Yellow, and SoulSilver (didn't count B&W as they aren't in America yet), and I do in-game plays on a regular basis.

Still play, but not like before, in 4th gen while I played a bit wifi, still mostly Shoddy. In 5th gen I don't think I'll play in Wifi, unless I get my hands on ARed Pokemon, because I REALLY don't feel like breeding/..etc not even RNGing.

i was really into third gen. i even beat chaos......heh........ when fourth rolled around i really couldn't get into it, but then platinum came out and i fell in love with the battle factory. spent a good 200ish hours in there without ever getting the gold symbol, then lost my cartridge which kinda sucked.

i was really excited for fifth gen until i realized the factory wouldn't be present until the third iteration came out, so i'm kinda bummed about that. i'll probably still get it though since competitive fifth gen appeals to me much more than fourth gen!

Where is "I battle competitively between April and June"

This is pretty much my boat, though its more like April through September for me since it's more of a time issue. Managed to make time for suspect testing last year at least but so busy during the school year to try to find time for competitive mons... and VGC in the summers is more fun anyway.

Still have plenty of interest, just don't have the time I did when I was in HS and I'm close enough to my degree that it's only gonna get worse I think :/

Pokemon battling is just not interesting to me with how much luck is involved in the game. I only play a little when I get bored enough, and then go back to playing actual video games.

Baww CK sucks at a children's game.

I haven't really been playing competitively since Platinum came out. Before that though I used to play almost every day.

I might get back into it when b/w comes out in the US but I'm not sure.

I binge play competitively. For fifth gen, I only play LC, so I'll make a team and ladder the hell out of it and do my best to get on high as I can on the ladder before people learn my team or Eo or Heysup get on and pick apart my team. Right now I'm waiting for the LC ubers to be announced.

For casual, I'm currently doing a Ruby nuzlocke. I'm practically always going through some kind of run.

Not going to lie, that sounds immensely tedious.

Also I hardcore competitive on Simulators, tbh its hard to say i enjoy casual pokemon at all even.

A few years ago when Shoddy had just come out and I had stumbled upon it, I was really into the metagame, and competitive battling. I was waaay more into pokemon in general then, when I had Pearl -- I was all up in gamefaqs in the trading boards, trying to collect as many pokemon I didn't have yet, and whatever events people were willing to trade to me. I at one point wanted to start a quest of having as many smeargles as necessary that knew every pokemon move that existed, but I knew that that was way too ambitious nearly from the get-go, mostly from people telling me so. ha!

so, after I discovered Shoddy I got really into competitive battling, mostly because of this neat online simulator! I didn't know about Net Battle at all, and so Shoddy was my first exposure to the online battling scene. I'm not exactly sure why, but the metagame that really interested me was UU. I learned soon enough that I was quickly annoyed by strategies that I would see over and over (in both OU and UU) like Ninjask BP teams, Rain Dance teams, GyaraVire and everything that was new and fresh and awesome, to me, and to most everyone else I'm sure. But! UU was like turning the volume down on battling but fine tuning the bass, like this wasn't as ridiculous and noisy as OU battling was with all the hyper offense (before I learned about these things called 'stall' teams) but fine-tuning the levels and layers of battling with not even simpler, but different strategies. Maybe I'm just over glamorizing it, but that's the best way I can remember being drawn to it. I think it also just had a bunch of cute mons or forgotten mons that were too weak/unpopular to use in OU, so being the kind spirit that I am I was all 'COME TO ME MONS, I WILL GIVE YOU PURPOSE ONCE MORE!' this especially applied to Octillery, one of my favorite mons to date (haha Inconsistent, oh octillery, I told you your time would come....) and my BP team that mostly revolved around him, with fall back strategies like Sticky Barb Trick Rotom, Curse/Attract Umbreon, and other silly shit that I loved to succeed and piss people off with.

Like Synre, Firestorm and many others around, the only thing I really care to do anymore is VGC battling, which probably appeals to me the same way UU did, in that it's a different, more specific set of rules and standards you need to play by, especially with the 2011 rules of ONLY using Gen 5 mons..............I guess that is okay. I really wasn't happy with it at first, as I always envisioned a team of mine having Breloom on it. R.I.P. still, maybe I'll be more into the scene after B/W comes out in English, and I run through the in-game again actually understanding everything, and memorizing all the (somewhat terrible) names.

It does have its tedious side, but its a good challenge. And its surprisingly less tedious in places than the 100% segmented run I already did, since I'm aiming to get some consistent strategies in any% for the more annoying fights which were very luck-based in the 100%. I've even found a deathwarp in one place, so losing can save time.

Gengar HP Ice says whats uuuup.

But no, I haven't played since shoddy started and they added all these retarded restrictions.

I might get back into it when b/w comes out in the US but I'm not sure.

I won 70% of my ADV matches with any competition, and still certainly over 50% against the best competition. DP I won about 80% but obviously a lot of competition was really, really terrible (would have won Secret Santa if I had not been lucked or had taken the riskier move over the "sure fire 100% if I do not get lucked"). When Platinum hit I stopped even caring and dropped to playing underused (was part of the winning team in one of those UU/OU/Über tournaments as the UU guy around this time), and then when that got blown up I just stopped caring altogether. It may not be the best battling history ever, I am above average instead of "one of the greats", but it certainly had no fucking bearing on why I quit. (Then again, you probably just wanted me to bitch back, like most)

Also I beat Fishy like 10 straight times at DPP underused, it was fucking awesome (she is definitely overglamorizing ;D).

Where's the option for playing competitively in person?

But yeah, Pokémon is definitely my favorite video game franchise, and playing it casually is fun but competitively is both challenging and fun
