Welcome to National Dex Alternative Metagames! National Dex Alternative Metagames (NDAMs) refer to a collection of competitive metagames within the National Dex Other Tiers category that do not follow the traditional National Dex ruleset and/or are not large or popular enough to warrant their own subforums. They include National Dex variants of OMs, UMs, and other miscellaneous metagames. They all function autonomously from each other tiering-wise and activity-wise, but all are united as a circuit. For a full guide on all the mechanics of National Dex, please check out this thread (gen8 thread, an updated gen9 version is coming soon). More information about NatDex AMs can be read below:

Forum Rules

  • All of Smogon's general global rules apply.
  • Do not post new threads without getting approval from a forum moderator first. Unapproved threads can and will be deleted/moved by the moderation team as deemed necessary. For example, you should not be making a new thread just to ask a question; things like that can be posted in the Simple Questions, Simple Answers thread instead.
  • All metagame posts should be based on information in said metagame. Please do not post speculation or your suggestions for fantasy Pokémon and refrain from theorymonning.
  • Do not make meaningless or one-line posts.
Resources

Simple Questions, Simple Answers
  • A place to ask simple questions that do not require a thread of their own to answer. This is the only place where so called "one liners" are tolerated.
National Dex AM Index
  • An organization of all NatDex AMs, detailing definition, leadership, resources, etc. along with other projects hosted in this forum.
National Dex AM General Discussion
  • A thread for, as its name suggests, general discussion for National Dex AMs. Miscellaneous metagames can be discussed here, and ideas for new National Dex AMs can be workshopped as well.

How to Submit a Metagame

General Rules

– All new metagames need to go through the submission process before you can post them. See the steps below on how to do that. Tournaments and projects are approved on a case-by-case basis, you can DM a forum moderator about it.
– You need to have at least 10 posts in the National Dex forum before you can submit. Use that time to become familiar with the community!
Users can submit one new metagame per month regardless of the submission being approved or rejected.
– It it advised not to host more than 2 metagames at one time. If your activity is great, then there can be exceptions, but we would like for things to be evenly divided when it comes to engagement.
– Every metagame needs a secondary leader (or a council). This is a rule that exists to ensure there is someone able to take over should the host become inactive.
– If you wish to drop a metagame you currently host and there is an active community, you must discuss who should take your place with the moderation team.

Submission Process

Step 1)
Look in the Index (pending creation). Does it already exist? Does something similar exist? Has something similar already been denied? If you see it, don't submit it.

Step 2)
Use the General Discussion thread to workshop ideas. The thread allows you to receive feedback so you can tweak your concept before officially submitting it. It is also a good idea to search if similar ideas have been brought up before. If the feedback is mostly positive, continue to the next step.

Step 3) Post a thread in the submissions subforum* (pending creation) which is formatted well (see currently approved metagames for an idea on how to do that) and gives a solid amount of details regarding your metagame. Some things you should check off before submitting are down below:
  1. Is the idea feasible? We want to make sure the idea will have good reception with the community; if you feel otherwise about it try to fix that problem before you submit your metagame.
  2. Can it be coded? Sometimes National Dex formats can be a little wonky with additional rules, so just make sure the code you want to use is fully functional.
  3. Is the council active and prepared to host a new metagame? Should be checked beforehand but we don't want anyone inactive on the council of any metagame, please make sure you'll be around often!
  4. Do you have any idea on what can be acted on? A preliminary radar of elements that could be banned would be good to have a clear pathway of the tiering of your metagame and what can follow.
  5. Is your starting ruleset sufficient? Also should be checked beforehand, but please make sure you have the correct clauses, bans, code, etc. in your metagame.
*This subforum is private. You will only be able to see your own threads.

Step 4) Now comes the wait. We will likely get back to you in a short amount of time; expect nothing more than a few days to 1 week. Our team will review your submission, ask questions for clarification, and provide suggestions to improve it. Please be patient during this stage. We try to get to all submissions within a few days 1 week, but if we forget, you may bump after that. It's not okay to bump before a few days to 1 week, nor is it okay to PM/VM us to remind us of your submission. We will get to it when we get to it.

Step 5) The OT forum moderators will give critique to your concept, the format of your post. We will tell you once/if you get approval. Feel free to post your new AM anytime after approval. Make sure you give the tier the corresponding metagame tag (OM, Other Tier, Gen 8, etc.) and affix "approved by moderator(s) name" at the top so the community knows you followed the forum rules. If you format is popular enough, it has the chance to receive its own tag!

Submit your metagame here.
