Landorus-Therian (M) @ Flyinium Z
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fly
- Earthquake
- Swords Dance
- Stealth Rock
One of National Dex OU's most fearsome wallbreakers swoops in! Boasting an astronomical 145 attack stat, coupled with good bulk and Intimidate, Landorus Therian finds a plethora of opportunities to set up and wreak havoc in a match. Flyinium Z allows lando to take advantage of pokemon that otherwise seek to wall its Rockium set, such as Tangrowth or Hippowdown. What checks or counters can you guys think of to stop this behemoth?

Zapdos @ Flyinium Z
Ability: Static
EVs: 176 HP / 116 SpA / 216 Spe
Timid Nature
- Discharge / Volt Switch
- Hurricane
- Roost
- Defog
Flyinium Z Zapdos is capable of quickly responding to Flyinium Z Landorus-Therian - its Supersonic Skystrike can OHKO back faster than Landorus-Therian can KO back with Z Fly, and it is also capable of removing rocks that Landorus-Therian can set. On top of this, other Landorus-Therians cannot OHKO Flyinium Z Zapdos with any move aside from using Rockium Z - something that is rather suboptimal in the current metagame; but something that does give Landorus-Therian some lure potential.
Corviknight @ Leftovers/Shed Shell
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Iron Defense
- Roost
- Body Press
- Defog
Corviknight can easily take a supersonic skystrike and then lando can't even touch it
Iron defense allows you boost defense so even if lando keeps using sd it still can't touch you
While you'd need to hit that will-o-wisp or that Hydro Pump to effectively check Landorus-T, Rotom-Wash main merit is the role compression it provides to the team: not only Landorus-T dies to Hydro pump after rocks, or can't ko Rotom once burned (+6 252 Atk burned Landorus-Therian Supersonic Skystrike (175 BP) vs. 252 HP / 200+ Def Rotom-Wash: 221-260 (72.6 - 85.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery). It's also able to provide defog and volt switch support, while being a switch in to dangerous threats like Swampert-Mega. Not the best but worth to be mentionned.
And voting has finished, there were only counters this week and Chazm won with his Zapdos set! gz, youll be added to HoF (which we have now btw, s/o kate for shouting at me to make it)
For this week we have the number one stall ruiner on rain teams
Manaphy @ Waterium Z
Ability: Hydration
EVs: 248 HP / 184 SpA / 76 Spe
Modest Nature
- Tail Glow
- Surf
- Energy Ball
- Rest
Being in rain prevents Manaphy from being statused and lets it hit just a little bit harder with its water moves after a Tail glow. theres not much that can defensively check this, so your best bet is to check it offensively. I wonder what checks and counters you can come up with. Submissions end at 11:59pm gmt+1 on the 19th!
Pretty simple counter, Latias switches in and can Calm Mind to prevent Manaphy from nuking it with a boosted Z-Surf in rain, so the only way Manaphy can beat it is going for the crit. It does have to watch out for Ice Beam variants of Manaphy, but it still can be able to get off a decent amount of chip, depending on what coverage it has.
+6 184+ SpA Manaphy Hydro Vortex (175 BP) vs. +2 248 HP / 0 SpD Latias-Mega in Rain: 260-306 (71.6 - 84.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+3 184+ SpA Manaphy Hydro Vortex (175 BP) vs. +1 248 HP / 0 SpD Latias-Mega in Rain: 217-256 (59.7 - 70.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+3 184+ SpA Manaphy Ice Beam vs. +1 248 HP / 0 SpD Latias-Mega: 200-236 (55 - 65%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+6 184+ SpA Manaphy Ice Beam vs. +2 248 HP / 0 SpD Latias-Mega: 238-282 (65.5 - 77.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+1 0 SpA Latias-Mega Psyshock vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Manaphy: 172-204 (42.6 - 50.6%) -- 2% chance to 2HKO
+2 0 SpA Latias-Mega Psyshock vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Manaphy: 229-271 (56.8 - 67.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+1 0 SpA Latias-Mega Thunderbolt vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Manaphy: 260-306 (64.5 - 75.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 0 SpA Latias-Mega Thunderbolt vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Manaphy: 346-408 (85.8 - 101.2%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO
Rillaboom @ Choice Band
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- U-turn
- Grassy Glide
- Wood Hammer
- Knock Off
Rilla can swap into Manaphy and tank a rain boosted Hydro Vortex, and cleanly KO back with Grassy Glide.
240+ SpA Manaphy Hydro Vortex (175 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Rillaboom in Rain: 260-306 (76.2 - 89.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery
252+ Atk Choice Band Rillaboom Grassy Glide vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Manaphy in Grassy Terrain: 474-560 (117.6 - 138.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Due to its ability and the move Grassy Glide, Rilla can easily swap in at least once into Manaphy, and tank the move, and can even force it to waste its Z Move, and always threaten it back out with a KO, U-Turning to preserve momentum, or nuking another mon on the (usually rain team) like Zapdos with a boosted Wood Hammer. Also due to the fact that Manaphy also doesnt run enough speed investment for Boom, it is almost always forced out if it needs to be preserved later on in the match.
Tapu Koko @ Choice Specs
Ability: Electric Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Roost / Dazzling Gleam
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Volt Switch
Nothing really prevents Tapu Koko from switching in on Manaphy, as its outrunned and overwhelmed by Thunderbolt. Even a rain boosted Surf has a low roll to KO, so Manaphy has to predict against Tapu Koko twice, which can be very dangerous if its packing roost. It also prevents Manaphy from Resting, meaning that its in real trouble if rain isn’t up. This is a check.
By running leech seed and protect it can easily force off Manaphy, by reducing its rain turns, while regaining health. This further is supported with the ability to OHKO Manaphy. It is also able to take heavy hits from Manaphy, despite it having a chance to be OHKOed by a +3 Hydro Vortex. However, to mitigate that weakness, it is able to scout Manaphy's Z with protect. Overall, This isn't consistent enough to be considered a counter. Despite that, most times you should be able to block its Z with protect and OHKO it back next turn to qualify it to be a check.
The calcs:
Z move calcs:
+3 184+ SpA Manaphy Hydro Vortex (175 BP) vs. 252 HP / 220+ SpD Ferrothorn in Rain: 307-362 (87.2 - 102.8%) -- 18.8% chance to OHKO
184+ SpA Manaphy Hydro Vortex (175 BP) vs. 252 HP / 220+ SpD Ferrothorn in Rain: 123-146 (34.9 - 41.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
Non Z move calcs:
184+ SpA Manaphy Surf vs. 252 HP / 220+ SpD Ferrothorn in Rain: 64-76 (18.1 - 21.5%) -- possible 5HKO
+3 184+ SpA Manaphy Surf vs. 252 HP / 220+ SpD Ferrothorn in Rain: 159-187 (45.1 - 53.1%) -- 32.4% chance to 2HKO
+6 184+ SpA Manaphy Surf vs. 252 HP / 220+ SpD Ferrothorn in Rain: 254-299 (72.1 - 84.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Ferro Pwhip Calc:
36 Atk Ferrothorn Power Whip vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Manaphy: 254-302 (63 - 74.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
There's nothing much to say here, shedinja completely blanks manaphy, as it's immune to all its moves. Sd is there to set up and actually kill mana, while polter and leech are ur stabs. Sneak is there fr priority to maybe let it sweep late game. Too bad it only fits on stall.
Submitting Tapu bulu as counter
SAVAGE (Tapu Bulu) @ Leftovers
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 HP / 240 SpD / 16 Spe
Careful Nature
- Swords Dance
- Substitute

0 Atk Tapu Bulu Horn Leech vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Manaphy in Grassy Terrain: 266-314 (66 - 77.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery
+3 240+ SpA Manaphy Hydro Vortex (175 BP) vs. 252 HP / 240+ SpD Tapu Bulu: 243-286 (70.6 - 83.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery and Grassy Terrain recovery
+3 240+ SpA Manaphy Psychic vs. 252 HP / 240+ SpD Tapu Bulu: 167-197 (48.5 - 57.2%) -- 5.9% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery and Grassy Terrain recovery

Kartana @ Grassium Z
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 120 HP / 136 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Synthesis
- Swords Dance
- Leaf Blade
- Knock Off
Submitting Kartana as a Check to this Manaphy set. Kartana obviously can't switch in consistently, but it forces Manaphy out with the threat of an OHKO with Bloom Doom. It can also switch into unboosted Manaphy once in an emergency
136 Atk Kartana Bloom Doom (175 BP) vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Manaphy: 690-812 (171.2 - 201.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
184+ SpA Manaphy Surf vs. 120 HP / 0 SpD Kartana in Rain: 229-270 (79.2 - 93.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
