Project NBT S3W6: Talking in Your Sleep

S2W1 - Breloom

:sv/breloom:

Next Best Thing is BACK for Season 2! It's a whole new tier and we've got a handful of new drops to play with (and a few old faces of NU making a return!). First up is Breloom, the former OU titan. Without Spore, Breloom has fallen all the way to the NU tier, but things are looking promising for our favorite mushroom. Let's get cooking!

Submission deadline: Monday, July 15, 7:00pm EST
Voting deadline: Thursday, July 18, 7:00pm EST
Choice Band
SD + 3 Attacks (Technician)

NBT has returned and it is time to concoct some devious sets, so here's sub punch

:ss/breloom:
Breloom @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 252 Atk / 76 Def / 132 SpD / 48 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Substitute
- Focus Punch
- Leech Seed
- Seed Bomb/Facade/Rock Tomb

with poison heal breloom has the ability to become immune to scald burns and have longevity to abuse substitute with, and focus punch being free behind sub makes an excellent button to break with, with max attack to ensure we hit as hard as possible, the rest of the EVs can be explained as such, 48 speed makes us faster than max modest dragalge whom we can wall with tera steel and clicking subs, 132 spdef with tera steel walls vileplume from ohking sub with giga drain, allowing breloom to alternate sub and focus punch into giga drain spam and 1v1 it, and the remainder is tossed in defense as it generally help sub to live some weaker hits including u-turns. As for other moves leech seed helps loom to wear down resists while it clicks substitute over and over again, and last is up to preference, but anything that allows you to hit what's in front of you when sub isn't an option, facade is a little stronger vs resists - especially vileplume - while seed bomb is a stab option that can hit ghosts, also rock tomb is an option as while the set lacks technician, the speed drop can make it easier to spam substitute vs mons that are just a little too fast as well as better handles chandlure and tyhplosion-h.

:vileplume:
4 SpA Vileplume Giga Drain vs. 0 HP / 132 SpD Tera Steel Breloom: 54-65 (20.6 - 24.9%) -- possible 7HKO after Poison Heal
252+ Atk Tera Steel Breloom Focus Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Vileplume: 108-127 (30.5 - 35.8%) -- 43.6% chance to 3HKO
252+ Atk Tera Steel Breloom Facade (140 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Vileplume: 135-159 (38.1 - 44.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

:talonflame:
0 Atk Talonflame Brave Bird vs. 0 HP / 78 Def Tera Steel Breloom: 59-70 (22.6 - 26.8%) -- 50% chance to OHKO -- odds to break sub
252+ Atk Tera Steel Breloom Focus Punch vs. 248 HP / 8 Def Talonflame: 176-207 (49 - 57.6%) -- 96.1% chance to 2HKO
252+ Atk Tera Steel Breloom Rock Tomb vs. 248 HP / 8 Def Talonflame: 380-448 (105.8 - 124.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO -- still ohkos without tec.

PS. DO NOT TERA BEFORE ORB ACTIVATES

Breloom @ Loaded Dice
Ability: Technician
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 80 HP / 252 Atk / 176 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Seed
- Close Combat
- Rock Tomb
- Mach Punch

this set came to me after realizing that I wasn’t getting the most out of my sd loom, so I went with 4 attacks. 176 speed gives breloom just enough speed to get the jump on max speed modest sylveon, and by extension everything slower than it. 252 adamant allows breloom to hit like a freight train and cripple anything that isn’t a bulky resist. I find this preferable to choice band because I won’t be locked into a non Mach punch move against a faster threat that would get wiped by it and it allows for some flexibility. Tera ghost allows breloom to check lucario in a pinch, but other Teras like fighting and rock are good too!

:SV/BRELOOM:
Breloom @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 252 HP / 16 Atk / 104 Def / 136 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Protect
- Toxic
- Facade
- Swords Dance / Leech Seed / Drain Punch

This set has done wonders during ladder tour. I call it GlisLoom because it essentially operates as Gliscor does in OU. The main draws of this set are Protect and Toxic, as ProTox provides a great way to stall out mons that try and switch into Breloom. Facade has been the best attacking move, it hits extremely strong off of Breloom's high attack stat, while hitting everything for neutral coverage. I have experimented with various different last moves, however Swords Dance has been the most effective at completely destroying fat teams. +2 Facade bodies many would be checks both before and after tera, and if you are worried about Tera Ghost just hit them with the Toxic. Leech Seed was the second best move, as it really helps with disruption strategies. Drain Punch is here as a passing mention, it helps you stay alive longer but really does not add much to the set besides a stab option. The main checks to this set are obviously Vileplume which can barely stave off your attacks unless you are +2 Tera Normal with SR. For that reason I reccomend pairing this with a hard stop to Plume. The spread was made to optimize bulk while hitting both an Attack jumppoint and a speed benchmark. It can be argued that this set can go slower, I wanted to outspeed Golurk and 0 investment Base 85s like Cresselia. That might not be that relevant however. the rest is just bulk

Drain Shroom
:bw/breloom:

Breloom @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
Tera Type: Poison
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 144 Def / 108 Spe
Impish Nature
- Leech Seed
- Drain Punch
- Protect
- Mach Punch

This set is part of the first ever team I made on singles. It originally had Spore (for more team supportive capabilities) but leech could work too with max Hp a really decent uninvested drain punch and the free heal of protect turns its a mon that sticks for real on the field specially if not threatened by Flying moves when facing a physical mons . It performed well on this gen in a meta much stronger than our NU, UU with Iron Treads, Ursaluna, Enamorus-T, H-Archanine...

You play this set 99% of the time with just the 3 first moves and Mach is for a surprise clean up duty in the team I used I needed some prio but could be easily traded for Seed Bomb.

The speed was to outspeed max speed Ursaluna Adamant something that surprisingly was a thing. In our meta the only thing i see that would be valid it's to out speed Pert and Incin that might have some speed invested.

Well i like drain shroom, Spore would make this build better but we use what we have.

4S Loom (Stun Spore Sub Seed)

:sv/breloom:

Breloom @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 236 HP / 20 Def/ 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stun Spore
- Substitute
- Facade/Close Combat/Focus Punch
- Leech Seed

The Idea of this Breloom set is to paralyze opponents using Stun Spore, which can be followed up by spamming Substitute to fish for a full Paralysis. Once achieved, Breloom can either fire off risk-free attacks or engage in a SubSeed gameplan. Max Speed allows us to outspeed a paralyzed Scarf Infernape :infernape::choice-scarf: and everything slower. I prefer Close Combat over Focus Punch here, because sometimes you just want to fire off an attack with no setup. The main weaknesses are things like Brambleghast :brambleghast: which outright wall your whole kit. Vileplume :vileplume: can be beaten quite easily if you are running Facade and expend your tera, but I recommend pairing this set with a Steel Type regardless to help with the matchup.

vs Rain (PowerOfMemes) - Breloom would have done much more this game if it landed more Stun Spores, but it still managed to 1v1 Tornadus.
vs Cosmic Deo Offense - A perfect demonstration of the set, Breloom gets off the goob stuns.
vs SemiRain - Breloom absolutely ripped this guy's team apart
vs Udon (NULT) - Doubling to Breloom on a Swampert = Talonflame pays the price

Sub Salad

:sv/breloom:SubSalad.png

Fruit Salad (Breloom) @ Salac Berry
Ability: Technician
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Substitute
- Swords Dance
- Reversal
- Bullet Seed

I'm sorry sir, we are out of the mushrooms for the salad... would you be ok with a substitution?! Click the image for theme music. The biggest thing holding breloom back is its subpar speed, this set aims to remedy that with salac berry! Sub lets us get into salac range and we intentionally have an odd hp number so it will take 4 subs and leave us on 1 hp for max power reversals. SD is for boosting, reversal is ludicrously strong, and bullet seed is an additional stab and gets us through focus sash mons. Loom still isn't that fast at +1 (compared to scarfers) so we paired it with sticky webs here.

Team | Replay 1 2 3
(Loom didn't do anything relevant in 3 but thought the torn sweep was fun)

S2W1: Breloom - Voting Now Open
The three-vote system has worked quite well in the teambuilding competition, so we will be adopting it here as well. Make sure to rank your top three favorites: #1 will receive 3 points, #2 will receive 2 points, and #3 will receive one point. Most points at the end wins (and of course, don't vote for yourself :pikuh:)

Sample Post:

2) Set 2 by Not Shengineer
3) Set 3 by Maybe Shengineer?

On this week's ballot:

S2W2 - Deoxys-Defense

:sv/deoxys-defense:

Deoxys-Defense is one of the most talked about Pokemon in the tier right now, in part due to its huge variety of viable sets. We've seen lots of utility and Cosmic Power sets achieve great success, but we've only just scratched the surface for the potential of this absolute unit.

Submission deadline: Monday, July 22, 7:00pm EST
Voting deadline: Thursday, July 25, 7:00pm EST
Cosmic Power + Stored Power + Recover + Night Shade/Taunt
Spikes + Night Shade + Recover + Knock Off/Teleport

Deoxys-Defense @ Custap Berry
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Dark / Ghost
EVs: 192 HP / 64 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Psycho Boost / Psyshock
- Focus Blast
- Dark Pulse / Shadow Ball

NP Custap Berry
While trying to make Iron Thorns work, I stumbled into making an unconventional team. Dual Custap HO is almost certainly not the way to go, but I enjoyed playing with it due to how silly and fun it is to catch people off guard. Custap Berry is actually very useful on Deoxys-D. With how it commonly comes across Pokemon trying to finish it off and its bulk always leaving it barely alive, it gets great mileage out of it to score a kill (or revenge kill) out of nowhere. The EV spread allows Deoxys-D to survive a critical hit from an Adamant Gallade's Night Slash from full while being as fast as possible with the rest put into Special Attack for damage output. This was inspired by a post that came off as silly to me in the NP thread (not LTTM's Deoxys-D sets post).

Deoxys-D gets 2.5 KOs thanks to Custap
Deoxys-D revenge killing Cloyster, which won otherwise
Deoxys-D KOing Talonflame with Custap for Lucario + Torterra endgame
Deoxys-D playing mindgames

Trick Room Setter
:SV/deoxys-defense:

Deoxys-Defense @ Mental Herb
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 252 HP / 108 Def / 52 SpD / 96 Spe
Bold Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Trick Room
- Teleport
- Knock Off

The biggest problem with hard Trick Room is that you have limited time to be aggressive and progress the game in your favor.

This set is dedicated to set Rocks than TR and than teleport away to a immediate sweeper.

TR specially with the lost of Reuni isn't int the best place ever in NU but is still viable. The thing with this set is that is a set that scales directly with the partners that are available if we got stuff like Ursaluna and Reuni this set would be insane.

The positive is that even here there is no better mon to set TR to others safely because of TP. Diancie is still the main beneficiary but there are other nice options mons like Golurk, Exeggutor-Alola, Glastrier, Vikavolt...

Rocks and Koff/Night Shade give it more utility than just a TR machine too.

Fake Cresselia Moveset

:Deoxys-Defense: :Cresselia:
Deoxys-Defense @ Kee Berry
Ability: Pressure
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 HP / 76 SpD / 180 Spe
Timid Nature
- Stored Power
- Recover
- Calm Mind
- Tera Blast

The goal of this was to see if I could replicate Cresselia's success when it first got into the meta. I realized that everything has changed, and the constant Dark types I have seen made it hard, but this set still works. The goal is to play this Deoxys middle to late game to gain momentum and seal the case. This Pokemon on any team is flexible, but I want it on a Sticky Web team with Incineroar to get the most optimal conditions. The EV set is to capitalize on Special Attack users, and the Tera Fairy to stop Dark types and Tera Blast typing. I did Kee Berry because I like the extra boost for Stored Power.

Here is the replay.

Reserving stall breaker deo-d

Lol u die (Deoxys-Defense) @ Heavy-Duty Boots/ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Psychic
- Taunt
- Night Shade
- Recover
- Knock Off

Taunt Recover Night Shade is bonkers and fat teams can't help but suffer vs it, it can also use Lefties to passively heal and take pressure off of Recover PP. Knock is broken.

Suicide Lead (aka Deoxys-S wannabe)
:sv/deoxys-defense:
Deoxys-D @ Mental Herb / Focus Sash
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Spikes
- Stealth Rock
- Taunt
- Skill Swap / Knock Off / Thunder Wave / Magic Coat

Dual Hazards + Taunt means it can work as a suicide lead. The last slot is filler: Skill Swap removes Magic Bounce from Espeon, Knock Off/Thunder Wave are general utility, and Magic Coat can anti-lead other hazard setters.
