NDWC VI will be hosted by Murphy Lawden, RauSakura, and Jahkem
Hello folks, with the temperature getting warmer and snow melting (depending on where you live), it's time to discuss NDWC VI starting off with the format. Manager signups will be up next Sunday or the one after that depending on the activity in this thread, with players being the week after managers (or maybe both at the same time in true NatDex pushing start dates up fashion)

Tiers played

The past 2 NDWC's have used the same format:

SV OU
SV OU
SV OU
SV OU
SS OU
SS OU
SV Mono
SV Doubles

Here are the following format's for NDCL I and NDPL VI:
SV OU
SV OU
SV OU
SS OU
SS OU
SV UU
SV RU
SV Ubers
SV Monotype
SV Doubles
SV OU
SV OU
SV OU
SV UU
SV RU
SV Monotype
SV Doubles
SV Ubers
SV Draft
SV Bo3 (OU, UU, RU)

Any of the tiers featured in PL & CL are fair game to be considered in WC, with 8 vs 10 slots being another conversation that was also had last year, with the final verdict being 8 then, but could change this year depending on support.

Teams:

:lopunny-mega: Asia + Oceania
:raikou: Europe
:corviknight: UK
:metagross-mega: France
:camerupt-mega: Latin America
:zarude: Brazil
:medicham-mega: India
:rayquaza-mega: China
:delibird: Canada
:marowak-alola: USA South
:skarmory: USA Northeast
:tapu-koko: USA Midwest + USA West

This is the standard 12 for NDWC, however, we are looking to expand to 14/16 teams hopefully this year and have 2 groups of 7/8 (would be 7 weeks for both in regular season instead of 5, with the former having a bye and the top 4 from each making playoffs), giving us a quarters -> semis -> finals playoff setup. I reached out to a few regions that might form, however, if you believe you have a roster to field for a region, please PM with proof to Murphy Lawden and we will see about getting it added! If we can't get 14 or 16 teams, then it will be the same format as usual.

Should US Midwest & West still be merged?

Another issue is what do we do with Africa formally? There isn't any other region that can merge to make a RoW team, but I don't believe they have enough to create their own, so what region should they be added to (iirc it was Asia last year)?

------------

This thread will be open to discuss these matters and anything else pertaining to WC I didn't mention for 1-2 weeks depending on turnout, discuss away!

I like 10 slots, it’s been good volume in pl and cl but I’m personally in favor of keeping a bo3 slot and ditching draft for ss. I’m not opposed to just doing 2 SS again, but as a viewer bo3 was a pretty cool slot to watch week by week. Big fan. I’m not huge on draft in general but I get that’s just a me thing mostly so if draft makes final cut I’m not exactly frothing at the mouth. SS should definitely make the cut somewhere though

keep 8 slots, also we dont need 2 ss slots in this tour anymore ngl. Its a well balanced metagame but the development in it has definitely slowed down post-cg and it has 2 slots in PL as well.

draft was a hit in cl and has an established, large pool of ppl to pull from as opposed to other OTs kinda similar to mono/dou in the fact that its a nd variation of an already popular tier that is fairly well integrated within that large community

If keeping 8 slots i think ubers should be added back, large enough pool for the tier to stay competitive and has had good showings in the past NDCL and NDPL. Draft also had a good trial run in NDCL with the massive amount of sign ups, it flowed pretty smoothly and the games were solid enough. If 10 slots could add back another SV and SS slot. I also agree with splitting West and Midwest which would mean having a RoW Roster would make more sense to keep it an even 14

I don't rly care how the lower tiers are formatted or if we add something but if we do add something please take away an SS OU slot instead of an SV one, SV Natdex is a really fun and interesting meta that is overall very balanced and has seen a lot of interesting development as of late. I would like for this great meta to retain the spotlight, so keep four SV slots plz.

Draft is huge and I think we saw it do quite well in CL. Also saw that a solid ND player could adapt into it an thrive like Chris. I am biased but think it would be great to keep it going in ND. I think 10 slots is fine because every single region can pull a draft main (DLWC gets like 500 sign ups and had 20 teams last year) so you are only really adding 1 more slot from the pool of ND tier players.

I liked format last year I’d just add draft + 1 because I know a few tiers/sub communities wanted inclusion and had some merit. Can always add a bo3 type of tier asw.

7 week wc tour sounds kinda exhausting im ngl especially for teams that have mostly pilots and require managers/helpers to do the heavy lifting irt prep and the like. if theres no real way to keep the tour as short as it is usually while letting new teams in then ignore this. more teams = more games = more fun

ndm sux bruh replace it with draft. over a second ssou is fine too ig that tier is equally unviable due to it being smou lite. would pref to see mono only in pl / cl tho

id be for merging midwest and west still as i think the rosters wouldnt be as competitive without a merge (potentially?) but also i think you can hold off on making a formal decision until signups are up so u can gauge quality which isnt too uncommon for a wc tour anyway

Nothing against draft, but personally I would rather see ubers or lower tiers represented. I think its okay if draft stays in CL so that the main tiers can get represented.

For the other questions, I think its fine if midwest + west split if there ends up being enough players for both. In regards to Africa, I think any continental team is fine, probably whichever of Asia or LatAm has less people ig. I think both decisions basically depend on how many people are playing for these teams.

regardless of which format we do, id strongly advise to not put bo3 as a slot. its genuinely always a nightmare to prep for esp since i dont even think most regions will have players who knows how the different tiers work.
i feel p indifferent w other inclusions slotwise, i get the one ss, if we're removing one ss slot id say draft. idt uber needs another rep as its lit in all of the others officials, but id be fine w it. i think 4 sv slots shld be kept also.
Id advocate to keep 8 slots. idr who said it earlier but i agree w the sentiment that in such tournament, managers w poor mainer playerbase will p much have to build for all slots, so if the tour is about to get longer, might asw ensure some ppl dont burn out til week 4 cuz they have 2 more slots to build for.
to sum it up:
sv ou x4
ss ou
mono
dou
one of draft/uber

Asiancy is fine with either 8-10 slot along with a possible expansion as long as we keep OCE since neither region would be able to field a proper roster if split (it was a big enough struggle last year trying to rebuild and get a team going as is) Im entirely fine with dropping an SS for draft if we keep the 8 slot since that brings in a whole new playerbase, is good for the overall natdex community to integrate draft into our tours and is a generally fun slot to have around. I do think it would be cool to have lower tiers if we go to 10 slot or ubers (see bumboclaat post whenever it is inevitably made), mono is a staple of this tour and shouldnt be dropped for any reason, SS should be first to go if were dropping slots.

3 Managers is a must given the tour may be slightly longer and theres 0 reason not to allow the extra help especially in a tour defined by large time zone differences between teams if were +8 and matched with -6 west Id really appreciate having the extra person around for possibility of last minute subs given how likely it would be to have 2 managers offline for a game or at work/school with that type of timezone difference.

3 managers is good as mentioned above that extra help will be needed, treat it as a regular wc tour over a 7 week one. As for tiers I honestly wanna see a bit more low tiers over stuff like draft. Not participating this year but it should be fun to see what goes down later.
