Need a good ps3 game..

Hey everyone!
I am planning on buying a ps3 on Saturday, and I need a good game for it!
I already have Bad Company, and looking to buy something in the criteria.
Teen rated, Shooter, Action, something like that, no Infamous, Uncharted, or Uncharted 2. (My friend is going to lend me those.) thanks!

If you can also get M-rated games, then I'd say God of War 3 or the Resistance series (the first Resistance game is pretty cheap right now; I bought mine for about $25 CAD). Never played Modern Warfare nor do I know of its ratings, but I heard it's really good in multiplayer. If you're only limited to T-rated games, then Batman Arkham Asylum is a good (though a tad pricey) action game due to its addicting gameplay (the story line is short as hell though, but I still enjoyed getting the platinum trophy off it). I'd also look at Valkyria Chronicles as well, because it's a strategy RPG game combined with elements from a third-party shooter. VC is a good game, but personally I got tired of it because the story felt too much like Fire Emblem (a Nintendo series that I've played for too long).

Hey-Thanks! I'll check those titles out.
I forgot to mention; if you are going for GoW3, then you should get the GoW Collection first (which is the first 2 God of War in 1 Blu-Ray Disc). Not only will this give you an idea of what GoW3 will be like (provided that you are not familiar with the GoW series) but it is cheaper. Of course, there is Resident Evil 5 if you're interested. That's all I can suggest as I've only owned a PS3 for 4 months now.

I doubt he can get M-Rated games if he specifically lists T-rated. Uncharted 2 and Heavy Rain are really the only two "must plays" I've played on the PS3. If you don't also have another platform, Mirror's Edge is a great title for $15 or so. Are shooters and action titles the only games you're interested in?

Yeah, you're right. Only select M games. (Bad company)
Cool! I'll check it out! No, those were just example's, I also like RPGs,
Fighting, etc.

Then you obviously haven't played Valkyria Chronicles which I would recommend to the OP (if you have played it then I don't get how you could not classify it as a "must play"). It's a tactical RPG. The story is good, the gameplay is even better.

Oh if you like fighting games then get BlazBlue Continuum Shift when it comes out during the summer. You could get BlazBlue Calamity Trigger if you want to get familiar with the mechanics/characters.

Super Street Fighter IV comes to mind. Should be hitting shelves April 27 for around 40 bucks. Seems kinda weird that you'd recommend BlazBlue over some of the more 'main stream' fighters.

But yeah, there are a ton of decent-good fighting games on PS3.

There are plenty of must play games. People who don't think so simply aren't interested enough or don't want to be interested.

A few great games would be Killzone 2 which is basically a rehash of every other shooter, but generally does it better. Infamous has tons of replay value and it's loads of fun to upgrade and be creative with skills. LittleBigPlanet is the ultimate game for anyone who's creative. Uncharted 2 is easily one of the greatest games ever, and you don't even necessarily have to play the first Uncharted. Heavy Rain is probably the most cinematic game ever.

There are a few games that definitely need sequels for you to play to get the full experience. God of War III is amazing. There's no other word to describe it. Metal Gear Solid 4 is the greatest game of this generation to be honest. You do have to play Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2, and Metal Gear Solid 3. Not necessarily Portable Ops though. Alone MGS4 is perfect, if you've played the sequels it's easily the greatest game series ever.

I just like BlazBlue a lot more than I like SFIV. Both are excellent fighting games though.

Just remember that you can download free demos from the PlayStation Store, so that gives you some opportunities to try some games that you are seriously considering to buy.

I can't think of any fighting games besides SSFIV that have a stronger immediate competitive future than Blazblue CS does. Maybe Tekken 6?

In any case, Blazblue is superior to every other fighter on the market in one very important respect, which is online play. I haven't heard anything about SSFIV improving its netcode, Tekken 6's has only been utterly abysmal in my experience, and even HD Remix has a lot of silly connection issues when it comes to PSN.

Not that I have anything against SSFIV, since I plan on buying it even though its online probably won't be ideal for me, but I wouldn't downplay Blazblue (or CS at least).

Killzone 2 is average at best. Very frustrating game with some really bad design decisions that make it plain unfun at many points. It has amazing sound design and very good visuals though so if he were able to play M rated games and had a good tv + decent surround sound system, I'd recommend it at around $20. LittleBigPlanet is decent. No interest in God of War III.

Calling Metal Gear Solid 4 the greatest game of this generation makes the case for strongest hyperbole on Smogon. It was again another decent at best game with many flaws that outweigh its strengths. Terrible pacing and a story that suffered from Kojima trying to cram EVERY SINGLE THING that has ever been discussed in the series. It's a terrible standalone game and decent fourth entry in the franchise. Definitely not a case of me "not wanting to be interested" or whatever as it was the main reason I bought a PS3.

Yeah, it's on my shelf but I haven't been able to get to it yet. I'm looking forward to it!

I can somewhat agree on Killzone 2, but calling LBP decent is almost outrageous enough to be called officially false. I can understand no interest in God of War III, if you haven't played the series it won't catch your eye too much.

And MGS4 is, quite simply, the best game of the generation. My statement on that stands and will continue to stand. As far as the story goes you should have been utterly amazed, in which case, again, I don't think you were interested enough. As far as gameplay goes, that is simply superb as well. If you don't really want it for the story, the gameplay by itself is well worth it. Most people would surely agree with me.

Anyways, get anything from the list I showed you, play it with an open mind (Don't be a critic through the whole thing), and you'll be very very pleased with any of the choices.

If you're going to put the reasons for disliking the game into my mouth, you should back it up. It's the game's job to make me interested. It is not my job to pretend to be interested and then pretend to like it. Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence is an amazing game. Metal Gear Solid 4 is a step backward in every way but visuals and one mechanic (manual camouflage -> auto). The fact that I finished in 17 hours and 8 of those hours were non-interactive sequences is only the beginning of the problem.

Also, why is my LittleBigPlanet assessment "officially false"? The actual platforming mechanics in the game have a lot of issues. I can't go too in-depth as I've played only 2- 3 hours of it and am basing my experiences on that.

I'm not saying they are terrible games. They're decent games for $20 - $30 if you're into the genre or franchise. They're not the top of their genre which is something I can say for Uncharted 2 and Heavy Rain.

Seconding Valkyria Chronicles and MGS4 (preferable if you've already played the rest of the games). Ratchet and Clank is another pretty good series to check out.

I agree with Firestorm Little Big Planet is a fantastic idea and level design wrapped around absolutely awful platforming controls and mechanics, nowhere near as good as people make it out to be just frustrating in a bad way.

Ratchet and Clank is decent though i am not sold on Crack in Time, i have been a fan of this series since the first game on PS2 but it just feels off. Get tools of destruction great game whilst it lasts and its really cheap.

I am a huge fan of the Tekken series but Tekken 6 is ass they moved away from the core gameplay and added all these awful gimmicks, Tekken DR is a much better game if you put a lot of time in to it.

Couldn't get past the first 30 minutes of Killzone 2 not because it was difficult but because it was so generic i don't consider loads of mindless shooting, good graphics, loud noises and constant swearing a good game though that seems to be what passes nowadays.

On the topic of Uncharted i thought the first was probably the most overated game i have ever played utter crap, is the 2nd that much different.

ive played the first hour or so of mgs4 and dont really have any desire to play it again. thing is clunky as shit (in terms of movement and aiming speed) and im finding it hard to follow everything storywise having never played a mgs game before. good job it cost me like £10 :|

edit: kind of agreeing with the lbp criticism but ultimately the creation stuff is where its at, and the single player was so damn charming i didnt care so much about some of the mechanical clunkiness.

The only general problem with LBP is the jumping. That's been the main focal discussion between critics since it has come out. That's literally the only thing critics could rant about.

As for MGS4, I honestly can't see how any of you see the flaws. Firestorm, 17 hours? The only reasonable way it took you that long to finish is playing it on the highest difficulty. Not only that, but the cutscenes ARE the general purpose of the game. If the cutscenes alone aren't enough for you, then the excellent gameplay should be enough for you. I don't blame you if you don't like the gameplay if you've never played a TPS before, but from a technical standpoint it's marvelous.

Stoo, you need to keep playing. My friend told me the same thing with MGS4, as well as Fallout 3. He picked them back up and is now in love with them.

Latinoheat, Uncharted was definitely blown up too much by fanboys. Uncharted 2 however, is near perfect. Get it.
