Need help with talent show

Me and my friend are doing a song for a talent show, She's never sang in front of a group and I never have either.

Any tips of songs that work for just a girl singing and then a guitarist (pretty easy please, I'm not that great yet)? I was considering (Muse) Unintended.

Actually, any tips for a first performence would help.

Oh, ooh. What about outro's? I was considering the rage riffs muse does after stockholm syndrome live...

tips for first performance I can help with thoughhh:
I just sang in front of like.. 500 people just last week, while playing the piano (my friend accompanied with the violin) and it was SO awesome. I really have to say, it makes you feel so.. awesome when you sing and you're doing something you love in front of others.

And i mean, it's a talent show -- this isn't life or death, have fun. I'm sure you two will be great. :D

And I don't know what an outro is.. :p

Only complain is that I think that unintended is a boring song, but that's my opinion and those judges probably won't judge you on which song you picked as long as your friend sings it good

How about Dar Williams? Excellent female singer, a lot of songs have guitar as the main. Try "The Ocean" by her, that might do the trick. It happens to double as a really damn good song, too.
 
Unintended by Muse is not an easy song to sing in my opinion. You would need a good vocal range in your voice, since, whatever key you play it in, you could find yourself either struggle with the low notes in the start of the song or with the high notes in the riff. If you possess a good vocal range and manage to pull it off, you'll be on your way to a good placing for sure.

It's a bit risky to sing such a difficult song in front of people for the first time, though. Singing in front of people is VERY different than just singing to yourself. Are you familiar with singing in front of a microphone? Singing in front of a mic is also very different than singing without one. Performing in front of people always feels different, and this is especially the case for a singer, since becoming excited may actually affect the voice (a guitarist will not be that much affected, for instance). If you become excited, you start losing breath, and that WILL affect your voice.

I'd go for easier songs to sing if this is your first time in front of people. Just my opinion.
 
I dont know the song personally, but generallywith muse I would expect it to be pretty hard to sing.. What sort of skill level of singing are we talking about here?

Or, on the other hand you could take a leaf out of American Idol's book and do stevie wonder?

Would muses Time is Running out be a possiblity? yeah unintended nvm is to riskyly hard for first try :p
