Hello,
As the title says, I am new here to smogon.com. I play Soulsilver and have just recently gotten into the competitive battling side of things. I have tried out a few teams already, but haven't worked very well at all. I was told to come here and I have recently developed a new team that I would like to get rated. I am open to all suggestions and changes, but please try not to be too critical, as I said - I am new here, and to the metagame side of things. Anyway, enough of my life story - Here is my team:
*Please nother: This is not the order I would use my team. I do also need help with trying to figure out which pokemon should lead my team. Thank-you.*
Jolteon @Leftovers
Ability: Volt Absorb
Nature: Modest
EV's: HP- 6/Sp.Attack- 252/Speed- 252
- Thunder
- Rain Dance
- Toxic
- Hyper Beam
Jolteon plays the role of the Special Sweeper in my team. He is meant to be a Thunderdancer pokemon. The Thunder/RainDance combo was chosen because it can cause a whole lot of damage to most types, specifically to pokemon like Gyrados and Aerodactyl, and also has deadly accuary. Toxic was kind of a panic move, I didn't know what else to put on with him. As you will see later, over half my team has Toxic in their arsenal. I decided to do this because I wanted to try and poison most of the opponent's team as possible. Jolteon was not one of my preferred pokemon to do this in my team. I do want to change this to something more useful. Hyper Beam is Jolteon's last resort. If he doesn't have a move that can quickly take down an enemy, this is it. I don't like using Hyper Beam/Giga Impact because of the recovery time which leaves my pokemon very open to attack. I think I have got everything down with Jolteon, other than the move set. I don't know how well he fits into my team though.
Blastoise @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
Nature: Careful
EV's: HP- 252/Defense- 6/Sp.Defense- 252
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic
- Hydro Pump
- Withdraw
Blastoise is my part Tank part Rapid Spinner pokemon. His main purpose is to get rid of Stealth Rock/Spikes/Others with Rapid Spin, and in my test battles he has done so very well. Toxic was put in as Blastoise originally didn't have any high damaging attacks and was meant to use Withdraw to raise his defense then poison the target. Again, I don't know whether to keep Toxic or not. Hydro Pump was added after my first test battle over Haze because I found that the opponent wasn't raising his stats very often. Like Jolteon, I am not too sure on Blastoise's move set. I was also wondering if I had done the EV's right with him or not.
Blissey @Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
Nature: Calm
EV's: HP- 252/Defense- 6/Sp.Defense- 252
- Softboiled
- Heal Bell
- Ice Beam
- Toxic
Blissey is my tank/staller pokemon. She has a ton of health and Special Defense, so she can usually last pretty well along with the chosen moveset. Softboiled to heal Blissey and make her last longer. Heal Bell to counter those annoying teams that give my team status problems. Ice Beam because I was lacking in the ability to take down types such as Dragon and Grass. Toxic as Blissey is intended to be up there for a while, so I figured why not put it in there. I am pretty happy with Blissey's moveset, but I am worried about the choice of pokemon for this job. It can be taken down fairly easily with the right physical sweeper. Also, should I have had switch the EV's around, giving her more defense instead of HP/Sp.Defense?
Heracross @Liechi Berry
Ability: Guts
Nature: Adamant
EV's: HP- 6/Attack- 252/Speed- 252
- Close Combat
- Megahorn
- Earthquake
- Giga Impact
I am actually rather happy with Heracross's turn out. He is my first physical sweeper and so far has done the job superbly. His moveset is good as it can take down a lot of different types. I only have two things that I am really concerned about with Heracross: A - Giga Impact. Should I be keeping this or changing it for a different typed physical move? I really like its power, but Heracross's defenses aren't too shabby. B - Flame Orb. It came to my attention that it would be beneficial to have a Flame Orb given to him instead of the Liechi Berry. I haven't really looked into this, but if someone could explain how this would work to my advantage it would be much appreciated. :)
Machamp @Leftovers
Ability: No Guard
Nature: Adamant
EV's:HP- 252/Attack- 252/Speed- 6
- Substitute
- Focus Punch
- Stone Edge
- Dynamic Punch
Machamp is my subpuncher and second physical sweeper. He uses the Substitute/Focus Punch combo, which usually works well. Stone Edge was chosen for its attack power and type advantages. Dynamic Punch was chosen as it takes advantage of Machamp's ability. With 100% accuracy, it can be a really deadly move. Two things I am worrying about: 1 - Ev's. Should I have put more on Speed rather than HP? I thought it was a good idea to have more HP as he uses substitute a lot. 2 - Abilities - Should I be having Guts or No Guard? If I did have Guts that would mean I would have to replace Dynamic Punch. Suggestions on this?
Skarmory @Leftovers
Ability: Keen Eye
Nature: Impish
EV's: HP- 252/Defense- 252/Sp.Defense- 6
- Brave Bird
- Toxic
- Spikes
- Whirlwind
Finally, Skarmory is my annoyer/shuffler. Brave Bird was chosen because of type advantages and I thought it needed an attacking move as well. With its high HP and Defense stats it can also take the recoil fairly well. Spikes is used firstly, adding preferably 3 layers. Toxic is used for poisoning the target, then Whirlwind to force switch the opponent's pokemon to damage and then add more poisoning. I'm pretty happy with Skarmory, even though it is one of the most common pokemon used in the metagame.
So that's my team. As I said earlier, I am open to all suggestions and changes and am willing to anything, whether it be just one moves, or the whole pokemon. All help is greatly appreciated. Also, again, I am new to this, so go easy on me.
Thank-you very much,
Karma :)
