Nidoking Based Team

*PLEASE READ WHOLE THING. THANK YOU :)*
I wanted to have some fun with a team and not be so serious about it. So i made a team based around my favorite/one of my favorite Pokemon, Nidoking!

My strategy for making this team was fill in the other spots with Pokemon that can counter Nidoking's Weaknesses. As some of you know his weaknesses are:
Water, Psychic, ground and ice
So went i went looking for Pokemon who could counter those weaknesses, i also kept in mine the normal set up for a team (that i think :/)- Having a lead, a Special attacker, an Attacker, a Special Defense, a Defensive, and a late game sweeper. And I'm still trying to figure out which of these Pokemon will be a late game sweeper, that's one thing i need help figuring out! Also keep in mind that this is centered around Nidoking, so i guess maybe Nidoking should be my late game sweeper?

PS. Pay attention to stuff in BOLD.

Here are the Pokemon i chose:

please after reading the sets answer this question: Ive found out that my team is pretty weak to Stealth Rocks and spikes etc. So can someone give me some ideas of combating that problem? thank you.

The team:
Lead/tank:
Spr_5b_260.png

Swampert @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
Adament 240 HP / 252 Atk / 16 Def
Waterfall
Earthquake
Roar
Stealth Rocks

So since i Usually always start out with my stealth rocker, i felt like Swampert would be a great lead. Swampert is 1. only super effected by grass. and 2. he has pretty good moves to take out a lot of Pokes in UU. With roar i can (after putting out SR's) pull in the next Pokemon on the opponents team to get stealth rock damage, this also helps out with scouting his/hers team. I wont always use him as the Lead.
Main Pokemon of my team, and Special attacker:

Nidoking @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
Timid/Modest 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Earth Power
Fire Blast
Thunderbolt
Ice Beam

With this set you have the life orb and sheer force combo that is just deadly, and with the wide range move pool he can take things out from dragon types all the way down to bug types. since his high special attack i will put into this the attacks should be boosted a lot and his speed will make the difference by going against average speed Pokemon. He might not be as fast as lets say Ambipom haha, but you get what i mean. Also could be a later game sweeper? we will see.

Choiced Scarf:
Spr_5b_494.png

Victini @ Choice scarf
Adament 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
V-Create
Fusion Bolt
U-Turn
Zen Headbutt

Okay on this team i felt like i needed something really fast and powerfull. so i went with the choice scarfed Victini has you can see. with victini i have also 4 different type moves (Two of them STAB) that i can help with Nidokings weaknesses. The thing is i have to work around the problem i have the choice item and so i will have to be smart, and predict the right move i should use so if the other opponent has SR's up it could really hurt Victini on the switch back in. So i will have to play smart. I might sometimes use him as the lead.

Support/wall:
Spr_5b_080.png

Slowbro @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerate
Bold 248 HP / 244 Def / 16 SpA
Scald
Psyshock
Slack Off
Thunder Wave

Okay as you've already figured out, this slowbro is my wall/support. He has moves such as slack off to help him regenerate HP in turn, and then he also has regenerate as his ability so when he switches out he also gets HP. I use scald as my main just attacking move and i have Psyshock to muscle threw Special walls. Then i have Thunder wave to make the other Pokemon slower so the slow Pokemon on my team can actually get some hits off first. Should i switch thunder wave with Toxic?

SubPunch:
Spr_5b_068.png

Machamp @ Leftovers
Ability: No Guard
Adament 212 HP / 252 Atk / 44 Spe
Substitute
DynamicPunch
Stone Edge
Pursuit

Well i had an Azmuarill here but i got some help saying that a better subpuncher is Machamp (stupid of me not thinking of this). With this i can set up and its a pretty good coverage against normal types to flying types. pursuit is pretty explanatory. I also just felt like i needed something at least a little bulky to take more shots because this team is a pretty offensive team. So now i guess my two main bulks of this team are Slowbro and this Machamp.

Offensive :
Spr_5b_145.png

Zapdos @ Expert belt
Timid 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Volt Switch
Thunderbolt
Hidden Power ice
Heat Wave

Okay well i had a Raikou in this place but i got helped saying that Zapdos could do all of this and do it better! so I'm going with this, also when i have heat wave on this set i can have another Pokemon that has a strong fire type move. also having HP ice i can take out some Pokemon that are left that have a weakness do this. i guess again this is a late game sweeper most of the time.

Again help me with this question if you didnt already read it: Ive found out that my team is pretty weak to Stealth Rocks and spikes etc. So can someone give me some ideas of combating that problem? thank you.

Thanks for the help (if you posted to help me out of course!) and please read the whole thing because it explains some problems i need to fix i think and just some little things. so thank you and correct me if I'm wrong! Please also pay attention to stuff in bold!

This took me alot of time and effort and i would really appreciate help, thanks :)

nidoking isnt weak to electric, bug OR fire...

his weaknesses are water, psychic, ground and ice

edit: you also dont need a STALLER because this is an offensive team... moreso a dedicated "staller." anyways, azumarill is a horrible staller, andi dont think you understand what stalling is.... anyways, in its place, i recommend something like machamp if you want a substitute user...

Oh oppsss i feel stupid now, haha thats what i ment, i just wrote down the pokemon that would hit those tpye, i being stupid :P yeah i know what a staller is, yeah and i can see that azumarill is a bad staller, ill work on that :P

Oh and pokemon can I switch out for azummarill? I just feel like I need some Pokemon to set up stuff for the team, could u please help me with that?

Zapdos does a better job than Raikou if you stick an Expert Belt on it and give it Thunderbolt, Volt Switch, HP Ice and Heat Wave. Their moves with have the same type of coverage but Zapdos can do it better, the only thing it will have trouble killing is Swampert.

bluemon already told you what Pokemon you should replace Azumarill with, and I agree, it sucks Machamp has no priority move but Substitute with Dynamic Punch, Stone Edge and Thunderpunch/Pursuit is some good coverage.

I think you should replace Heat Wave with Sludge Wave seeing as it gets a stab boost and if you add Zapdos you will have 2 Pokemon on your team capable of fire attacks.

You asked about TWave on Slowbro, it's just your decision on whether you want your opponent to get weaker from the Toxic, or if you want some of your slower Pokemon to get the speed advantage and the possibility of an opposing Pokemon unable to move for a turn.

Swampert looks fine, but in case you don't know this already, try not to always use him as your lead, I see your Victini has U-Turn, that's good for scouting.

Other than that, your team is threatened by your opponent putting too many amount of layers up. And I'm not quite sure how to get around that with the team you have.

K thanks that helped alot! but one question, when you say replace heat wave with sludge wave. what Pokemon are you telling me to do that with? And now i see machamp being better! yeah and i agree with what you said about swampert and the to many layers, thats true. Thanks again, this really helped:D

Hi there,

As you said, 2 pokes are weak to Stealth Rock (Zapdos and Victini) and they have no way to regain HP.

You can try Hitmontop on Machamp, you'll lose offensive but you'll win a Spinner. Also, Hitmontop can intimidate and take hits from pokes like Heracross or Krookodile that can hit Slowbro for nice damages. If you want to use Toxik on Slowbro, then Hitmontop can learn Toxik too.

It seems to me (I've not tested) that your team has problem against Swampert or Quagsire. Swampert is a common check to Zapdos if you bluff the choice item correctly, maybe you can try HP Grass over HP Ice on Zapdos.

I'm also for a more defensive ev spread on Swampert to increase his durability, just because of Rotom-H which is a pain for Nidoking (Sludge Wave helps), Zapdos,Victini and maybe Slowbro, depending of the SpA drop from Overheat.

Test those changes and let me know if they work !
