Nidoking

I know, but it isn't really to get perfect coverage. It's a "different" set (with the same purpose, of course), not a replacement to the other one. You can use the set and can still abuse Encourage, with great effect.

I would use the "classic elemental" one; sincerely it's better than the one i just proposed. But i think it's still a fine alternative (well, at least it holds more overall power, with the use of 2 STAB moves + a 120 BP move).

And yeah, Rotom-H is uncommon; there's no need to worry about it too much . And Earth Power still hits very hard all those typings that aren't weak to any of it's moves.

So with everyone complaining about Nidoking's Speed, would he work well on a Trick Room team? I didn't see it mentioned at all in this thread, which surprises me.

Something with average speed would have average speed in trick room. Why would you use nidoking, when you have clampearl and marowak?

Not quite. Nidoking can be viable in TR because, if you use a hindering nature and 0 EVs and IVs, a base 85 is slower than a neutral-nature base 60, which is pretty slow. Sure, stuff like Ferrothorn will outspeed you in TR, but Ferrothorn will outspeed almost everything in TR.

As for Clampearl and Marowak, Nidoking is sturdier and has better coverage than Clampearl, and it hits specially instead of physically, unlike Marowak (although Marowak is also a great TR sweeper, and their shared weaknesses make it hard to use both as your sweepers).

Bumping a thread to ask this question after the OO CCAT results: because BW OU has developed and we have established a list of relevant threats after suspect testing (Dragonite, Tyranitar, Rain stall, etc), where does Nidoking fit?

Let's consider the following:
  • Nidoking has great special attacking capabilities. That's a given, but can't we just apply this to any good Life Orb special attacker that's viable in OU (see: Latios, Starmie, Alakazam)? The fact that Nidoking doesn't take Life Orb damage is an acquired preference.
  • Nidoking has decent typing, which allows it to absorb Toxic Spikes and tank some hits to a lower extent of Nidoqueen. Nidoking also stands out as one of the few Terrakion resists (careful of Choice Band). His Ground typing also makes him immune to incoming Electric-types, and gives STAB to Earth Power (in addition to Poison to Sludge Wave).
  • Speed. This is where Nidoking struggles. Sure, it's no Tyranitar or Scizor, but base 85 Speed isn't exactly an ideal base Speed to have in a tier full of other alternative fast attackers like Latios and Landorus. We can provide it with paralysis, but at this point we're giving it too much focus (unless, of course, the team is based around paralysis).
When using Nidoking, questions are as follows: Why run Nidoking? Does is offer an invaluble niche that other Pokemon can't?

I can already predict some of the answers, but I'd like to see insight from experienced people that actually use or had Nidoking on their teams, rather than "for the hell of it (because it's awesome?)."

It has very good coverage, and I'd love to fit it onto my team. The problem is his draws aren't that worthwhile in OU...

absorbing toxic spikes... I really just don't see much of toxic spikes in OU, with Tentacruel and Forretress not all that common.

resistance to fighting is a plus, but he's too frail to make use of it.

I wonder if it would be a good idea in these threads to list what threats Nidoking absolutely shuts down and what threats absolutely destroy it.
