No Fancy Title Here! { An OU RMT }

Well I haven’t built an actual team in months, and since both Latias and Salamence have been moved to Uber tiers, and I’ve got a local tourney coming up soon, I figured I’d try building one more team.

Team Building Process

I have a newfound interest in Togekiss, particularly because it’s just so darn cute and adorable, and I’ve seen it tear through unprepared teams all on its own, so she was definitely given a spot on my team.

With Togekiss having issues with electric, rock and ice types, I needed a pokemon that would be able to handle all its issues while being able to hold its own. Thus Swampert came into the picture – and its ability to set up stealth rock doesn’t hurt either.

While having a nasty plot sweeper and stealth rock setup, I figured I’d need something to block pokemon who wish to remove my stealth rocks, and Dusknoir came into the picture. It was between Gengar and Dusknoir, but Dusknoir won out because of its sturdiness.

Now then, I moved onto support. While Blissey could’ve easily taken on this role, I wanted something with a bit more attacking power and after a bit of poking around, Dragonite came to mind.

Noticing Dragonite’s serious weakness to rock, and my lack of a serious physical attacker, I looked to the other end of the spectrum to find an appropriate pokemon – and my eyes fell on Breloom. It’s typing makes it unique in play, and it made him a shoo-in for the spot.

With the team almost finished, I noticed that I didn’t have an official lead, and my mind instantly thought of Heatran. It’s relatively bulky, able to switch-out without taking too much damage.

The Breakdown

490.png

The Lead - Heatran (Timid) @ Shuca Berry
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Stealth Rock
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- HP Grass

A versatile lead that has the option of switching out at any time, and coming back to wreak havoc at my discretion. HP Grass was chosen in case I end up having to face a Swampert later on down the road. Breloom also helps counter the rock problem and Heatran nicely counters the fire issue on Breloom’s end.

The PrincessTogekiss (Modest) w/ Serene Grace @ Leftovers
EVs: 252 HP / 152 SpA / 104 Spe
- Nasty Plot
- Roost
- Air Slash
- Aura Sphere

Honestly, the main star on my team. Togekiss can be really annoying if used properly and can even tear through teams all on its own with little to no assistance from others. Her ability to take hits makes her all the more useful too.

The UglySwampert (Relaxed) @ Leftovers
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Ice Beam
- Protect

Almost basic MixPert, save for the exclusion of Stealth Rock. I excluded it due to Heatran having it and in general Heatran tends to last longer than Swampert. Protect is used to scout out other pokemon’s moves and to get another turn on Leftovers, though I may switch it out for Roar if need be.

The GhoulDusknoir (Impish) @ Leftovers
EVS: 252 HP / 28 Atk / 228 Def
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split
- Fire Punch
- Thunderpunch

The only “tank” on my team – it’s defenses allow it to last fairly long, and it helps the other members as a spin-blocker while providing somewhat decent coverage.

The StrikerBreloom (Adamant) w/ Posion Heal @ Toxic Orb
EVs: 172 HP / 204 Def / 132 Spe
- Substitute
- Leech Seed
- Spore
- Focus Punch

A regular set with some rather strange EVs. It’s given these to help itself survive Choice Band Tyranitar and Gyarados, both major problem for my team. The EVs allow it to survive a Stone Edge and Crunch easily from Tyranitar, and an Ice Fang from Gyarados. Focus Punch already gives STAB and it already has 352 attack so I figured that’d suit just fine, and SubSeeding would be annoying enough without adding insult to injury by hitting so hard.

The BackupDragonite (Careful) @ Leftovers
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpD / 4 Spe

- Dragon Dance
- Heal Bell
- Roost
- Dragon Claw

A special defense powerhouse, this is probably my favorite set for Dragonite. The Heal Bell helps take care of status issues on all my other pokemon and Roost allows Dragonite to keep itself alive and help take care of the Stealth Rock damage as well. It can come in on almost any special attack and proceed to set up dragon dances which is always a plus.

Hey. You've got some interesting ideas going on here, but there's a fair few problems that you need to iron out to make this team decent. First things first - you really don't need to be using Swampert on this team. The main things that set it aside from other bulky waters are access to Stealth Rock and ground typing. You've already got SR on Heatran, which I think is the pokemon more suited to your team out of the two, and you can easily compensate for the ground typing with a few tweaks elsewhere. I think the best choice of a replacement would be an offensive Suicune with Calm Mind/HP Electric/Ice Beam/Surf, which gives you a much more offensively useful pokemon, as well as a better check to things like Infernape which can easily sweep you otherwise.

Now, Dusknoir is the pokemon on your team that really leaps out as being out of place. Apart from Breloom, and the possibility of getting lucky with Togekiss, you're really going to struggle against stall teams, and you'd be much better off using something to help deal with that problem. By using a Gengar with a Life Orb and Substitute/Pain Split/Shadow Ball/Focus Blast, you'll be able to still block Rapid Spin when necesarry, and while Gengar is much more frail than Dusknoir, I think you'll find that it more than makes up for that by giving your team a much needed faster pokemon, which will make your life against the likes of Infernape and Lucario so much easier.

I think you should revert back to the standard Breloom spread, as you'll be struggling to be a real threat without the more offensive EV spread. You should still be able to deal with Tyranitar pretty well, and the attack is vital in helping you beat stall.

Finally, Bulky DDNite isn't the greatest choice of sets. You've already got a slow, bulky setup sweeper in Togekiss, and what your team needs more is something capable of coming in and immediately posing a threat, which a Mixed Flygon would do perfectly for you. Draco Meteor/Fire Blast/Earthquake/Roost gives you a dangerous pokemon against any kind of team, and also gives you a ground type to replace Swampert.

Good luck!
