Farfetch'd should be ubers, by the way.
Introduction
I've always wanted to try to make a Baton Pass team ever since the day I realized that Baton Pass did more than just be a slow switch (as a kid I thought that it was Farfetch'd's signature move).
Meet the Team
Speedy McBatonPasser
Shedinjask (Ninjask) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Speed Boost
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Baton Pass
- Swords Dance
- Substitute
- X-Scissor
Standard Baton Pass set, without Protect. Having X-Scissor allows me to hit Psychics and Whimsicott well and also allows me to scare off some of the more frail Pokemon in the meta.
Big, Black, and Scary; He'll Break Your Face
Big Black (Kyurem-Black) @ Life Orb
Trait: Teravolt
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SAtk / 252 Spd
Hasty Nature
- Fusion Bolt
- Ice Beam
- Outrage
- Roost
Originally this slot was taken by a mixed Infernape, but I find Kyurem-B to be a much more effective mixed (yes mixed) receiver of Baton Pass. Ice Beam catches people off guard very often and makes it very easy to set up a sweep. If Kyurem-B receives defense boosts (or has extra time otherwise), Roost is a great way to get more value out of him. Kyurem-B is a very scary force to be reckoned with. However, his main weakness is two common priority moves: Bullet Punch and Mach Punch. But the rest of the team tries to balance out these flaws.
Big Meaty Claws: Good for Smacking and For Blocking
Clawsdale (Gliscor) (M) @ Toxic Orb
Trait: Poison Heal
EVs: 252 HP / 184 Def / 72 Spd
Impish Nature
- Substitute
- Protect
- Earthquake
- Ice Fang
Standard defensive Gliscor. Gliscor is also VERY scary and a great Pokemon to pass offensive and defensive boosts to. Also functions as a great support piece on the team and has good synergy with Tyranitar's sand.
♥ Girls Have Guts Too! ♥
Hera (Heracross) (F) @ Flame Orb
Trait: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 SDef / 4 Def
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Megahorn
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
When thinking of a purely physical Pokemon to pass to, I tried thinking of Pokemon who have naturally high attack but had an alternate way to get even more power. Guts came to mind and thus Heracross. Heracross has great typing which allows her to hit a variety of threats especially with speed boosts to take out pesky Terrakions and pretty much anything else. By herself without boosts she still create a strong offensive presence which is difficult to stay in on.
Bulky Vaporeon, 'nuff Said
Valentine (Vaporeon) (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Water Absorb
EVs: 244 HP / 136 Def / 128 Spd
Bold Nature
- Baton Pass
- Substitute
- Acid Armor
- Scald
Baton passing Vaporeon, quite simple. Switch in on a Pokemon that can't do anything to Vaporeon, sub, acid armor, get out. It's typical to Baton Pass from Ninjask to Vaporeon in order to have the speed to get an Acid Armor in to take less damage from an incoming attack. Vaporeon's subs are also very nice to give to anyone on the team, even sending it back for Ninjask to boost more.
Mrs. Anti-Meta, Mixed Sweepin' Sandra
Sandra (Tyranitar) (F) @ Chople Berry
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 220 HP / 64 SAtk / 100 SDef / 104 Atk / 20 Def
Sassy Nature
- Crunch
- Stone Edge
- Thunder Wave
- Ice Beam
As you might tell, I tried to make each of my targets either physical or mixed; pure special attackers don't appreciate Swords Dance as much. Tyranitar takes the roll of an amazing specially defensive, bulky attacker who can take out many threats. Thunder Wave can be a saving grace when Ninjask is out of commission and no one has speed boosts. The rest of Tyranitar's move give her great coverage against most of the meta. Plus sandstorm anti-meta stuff.
Overall Impressions and Results
Overall this team has been successful due to the lack of priority moves in today's meta. Although the team typically has problems with a lot of common types (rock, water, fighting, ice), it makes up with it by using enough prediction and speed boosts to sneak around pesky Keldeos and Genesects.
Stealth Rock is a big weakness to the team, but other entry hazards aren't. Heracross doesn't mind switching in on toxic spikes and Vaporeon doesn't mind either since she doesn't stay very long.
Cloyster is a bit threat as well. Being able to break subs and having decent coverage against this team in particular makes it difficult to survive; although Vaporeon can sometimes set-up on Cloyster to make another Pokemon bulky enough to take it out.
Any and all feedback are appreciated!
