Didn't you guys do this for Lent?
In all likelihood you couldn't stop if you wanted to. And there are definite consequences of alcohol, so being fun seems thrown out the window to me. And if you drink it for it tasting good, you should find something that's better for you but also tastes good, like dark chocolate. And the only reason anyone is given the mindset that they are superior because they are Edge is because of how pathetic and ignorant the vast majority of people who smoke and drink are so it becomes true in a stereotyping mindset
You know a lot of people actually do fall in to it because of peer pressure so that's just another reason to consider them "lower". But until somebody shows that they can go without drinking and smoking, I refuse to believe that they have the ability or willpower to do so

I don't smoke, have friends who do so and refuse to allow myself to be pressured into doing so.
I drink beer on extremely rare occasions and in fairly small amounts due to the intent to avoid the type of life that has plagued my father. I know of the dangers of alcohol and while I won't write it off completely I drink in high moderation. I have no need to drink alcohol and have never felt the urge to want it since the last time I drank (around 10 weeks ago).
It isn't that difficult if you have the ability to view things objectively and are able to utilise self-control, but unfortunately there are far too many people who aren't able to do so. I also intensely disagree with the notion of drinking beer because it is "fun". The act of drinking should not be the trigger that makes you feel happy. That is wrong and signifies a mental connection to the alcohol. Drinking should be fun because of what it accompanies, aiding in the enjoyment of that activity. Every time I've had alcohol I've done so hanging out with my friends or at a party, the beer making the experience more enjoyable. The act of beer drinking should not b e some calamitous trigger that signifies fun.
Also, I tend to hold the same theories on marijuana but in that case they are just theories as I can provide zero credible experiences in that regard.

yeah I was so pathetic last night. Went out drinking with Northwestern Grad School students, what a bunch of pathetic losers. No self-control, they'll go nowhere with their lives, and neither will I.

I never said I agreed with the stereotype, I'm just pointing out its existence from one group's view on the next. Yes, many people I associate with who drink and smoke are very ignorant, and a lot of the time their habits truly are due to peer pressure at some point along the line, but that doesn't make them degenerates. And since when does stating the existence of a stereotype mean that you agree with it?
Edit: You're entirely wrong, but I stopped caring a while ago
because it wasn't a stereotype in the first place, the fact that you think it is a stereotype shows your own belief in it. you're merely labelling it as a stereotype as a scapegoat.
