[overview]
**Draft Order**: Round 5 onwards

**Price Range**: 9-10 points

**Overview**: With an excellent Speed tier, decent Special Attack, and access to a diverse utility movepool, Noivern finds a place as a useful support Pokemon on a variety of drafts. It gets access to the sparsely distributed Defog, a valuable commodity, With Frisk and access to a fast Taunt and U-turn, it can act as a fast pivot while scouting for items on the opponent's team. Its Dragon / Flying type combination matches up well offensively against a large portion of the metagame while also providing useful resistances to common typings, including an immunity to Ground. It also occasionally serves as a wallbreaker with access to high-Base Power STAB moves like Hurricane and Draco Meteor; however, it requires an item to achieve necessary KO thresholds. Noivern's weakness to Stealth Rock and mediocre bulk hinder defensive sets and make it heavily reliant on Heavy-Duty Boots. Additionally, its primary STAB moves suffer from significant drawbacks, forcing it to usually choose between reliability and damage, making offensive sets slightly harder to run.

[strategy comments]

Common Roles
========
**Fast Utility**: Access to pivoting in U-turn, disruption in Taunt, reliable damage in Super Fang, recovery in Roost, and entry hazard removal in Defog helps Noivern provide fast support for the team while occasionally using its STAB moves. Its ability Frisk is also excellent, as it provides consistent passive utility by scouting for opposing items, a mechanic especially useful in Draft, as it significantly reduces guessing games.

**Revenge Killer**: Noivern can function as a decent revenge killer. Its high base Speed allows it to outspeed most of the metagame naturally, as well as Speed-boosting Pokemon when using a Choice Scarf. Its Speed also allows it to clean up weakened teams. However, it is important to note that it usually has to rely on low-accuracy moves like Hurricane to clean up effectively.

**Wallbreaker**: Although it has mediocre base Special Attack, Noivern can use damage-boosting items like Choice Specs to function as an effective wallbreaker. Powerful STAB moves like Hurricane and Draco Meteor, neutral coverage in Boomburst and Flamethrower, and Focus Blast to hit Steel-types can help Noivern wear down opposing defensive cores, easing the way for other offensive threats on the team. This is aided by the fact that Flying is usually a very spammable offensive typing thanks to the limited number of Pokemon resistant to it.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Draco Meteor, Hurricane, Dragon Pulse, Air Slash

**Setup Moves**: None

**Utility Moves**: Defog, Roost, Substitute, Super Fang, Switcheroo, Taunt, U-turn, Whirlwind

**Coverage**: Boomburst, Dark Pulse, Flamethrower, Focus Blast, Psychic, Shadow Ball

Niche Moves
========
**Psychic Noise**: On builds where Noivern finds it difficult to choose between coverage and Taunt, it can use Psychic Noise to deny recovery on passive Pokemon while also dealing damage.

**Tailwind**: Noivern's frailty and Speed make it a serviceable late-game Tailwind user. In certain games, it can use Tailwind as a final cry before dying and provide a Speed boost for its teammates to clean.

Common Items
========
**Heavy-Duty Boots**: A majority of Noivern builds run Heavy-Duty Boots, as it provides protection against Stealth Rock, trading the power of using a damage-boosting item for longevity. It enables Noivern to perform its support role comfortably by giving it the opportunity to switch in multiple times.

**Choice Scarf**: Choice Scarf allows Noivern to function as a great revenge killer. It can outspeed most Speed-boosting Pokemon and hit them with powerful, albeit low-accuracy, STAB moves. It also has access to Switcheroo, which allows it to neutralize setup threats in a pinch.

**Choice Specs**: Noivern becomes a serviceable wallbreaker through using Choice Specs. Choice Specs-boosted Hurricane and Draco Meteor help Noivern take advantage of a team lacking good resistances. This does leave Noivern vulnerable to entry hazards, making hazard control very important.

Niche Items
========
**Throat Spray**: Throat Spray allows Noivern to use Boomburst while simultaneously receiving a Special Attack boost. It works especially well if Noivern is a Tera Captain, as it can use Tera Normal-boosted Boomburst with this. It also allows Noivern to switch between powerful boosted moves and fulfill a more flexible wallbreaker role.

**Damage-boosting Items**: Items like Expert Belt, Life Orb and type-specific damage-boosting items sacrifice the raw power of Choice Specs for the ability to let Noivern switch moves while still boosting its damage. However, these sets can easily be worn down by residual damage and Stealth Rock.

**Eject Pack**: Noivern can use Eject Pack in some circumstances to gain momentum while using Draco Meteor instead of U-turn for extra damage.

Tera
========
While still generally outclassed by other primary and secondary Tera Captains, Noivern has niches that make it worth consideration. It is important to note that Noivern does not need to Terastallize to fulfil its support role well. Tera Normal allows it to gain STAB on Boomburst, turning it into a fearsome wallbreaker. Tera Dragon or Flying can be used as options to further boost the power of Draco Meteor or Hurricane, respectively. Niche options include Tera Fire and Fighting to gain STAB on Noivern's coverage moves to hit opposing Steel-types. However, it is very one-dimensional in its offensive capabilities and has too lackluster defenses to warrant defensive Terastallization.

Draft Strategy
========
Noivern is a very flexible Pokemon, so it is not advisable to plan a draft around it. It provides a relatively cheap option for speed control and role compression for a lot of drafts. However, Noivern can always benefit from having teammates that fulfill certain roles.

**Wallbreakers**: Noivern's access to a fast U-turn and a wide utility movepool helps it enable other wallbreakers by bringing them in safely. It can do so by threatening to outspeed and KO something with its STAB moves and then using U-turn, anticipating a switch. Slow Pokemon like Ursaluna-B and Iron Hands particularly benefit from this ability, as they struggle to switch in otherwise. Frail Pokemon like Iron Valiant and Lycanroc-D also appreciate this ability.

**Steel-types**: A good Steel-type Pokemon covers all of Noivern's defensive weaknesses. Noivern usually has to switch out of super effective moves, and having a Steel-type Pokemon on the team can help absorb those hits by resisting them. Steel-types are also useful for taking advantage of opposing Fairy-, Rock- and Ice-types. Pokemon like Tinkaton and Gholdengo are good candidates for this role.

**Ground- and Fighting-types**: Noivern struggles to wrestle past Rock- and Steel-type Pokemon even with coverage. Having teammates like Sneasler, Iron Valiant, Excadrill, and Great Tusk can help with that weakness, further enabling its offensive sets. Fighting-types also function as Knock Off absorbers, which is important because Noivern usually does not appreciate losing its item.

**Entry Hazard Control**: Though Noivern itself has access to Defog, it benefits a lot from having another teammate able to control entry hazards. Defog is suboptimal in instances where the user wants to keep hazards up on the opposing side. Rapid Spin support allows Noivern to run offensive sets more freely without worrying about Stealth Rock and also acts as a safety net against Knock Off. Spinners like Iron Treads and Terapagos make for good candidates.

Checks and Counters
========
**Special Walls**: With Hurricane's low accuracy, Draco Meteor's stat drawbacks and a general lack of other powerful STAB moves, Noivern struggles to wear down almost any special wall with recovery. Specially defensive Steel- and Fairy-types are especially nice for this role. Pokemon like Clefable and Empoleon can take hits from Noivern over multiple turns and heal off any damage it does. Even without recovery, some specially defensive Pokemon like Ting-Lu and Diancie can tank hits from Noivern and threaten it back with super effective moves.

**Faster Pokemon**: Pokemon naturally faster than Noivern can usually take advantage of its weaknesses and check it offensively by outspeeding it and threatening it with devastating hits. Pokemon like Iron Boulder, Weavile and Darkrai all outspeed Noivern and OHKO it, given the right circumstances. Opposing Choice Scarf users can also fulfill this role against non-Choice Scarf sets.

**Stealth Rock**: Noivern's more offensive sets get easily worn down if Stealth Rock is up on the field. Stealth Rock severely cuts down its longevity, allowing it to only switch in a few times.

**Knock Off**: Knock Off is very effective against Noivern because on any of its sets, losing its item significantly reduces its longevity or wallbreaking capacity.

However, Noivern’s weakness to Stealth Rock and weaknesses to common typings, including a 4x weakness to Ice, mediocre bulk much more of a drawback, the typing is fine enough hinders defensive sets and makes it reliant on Heavy Duty Boots. this overview goes on too long about the wrong things in my eyes. ultimately, the speed tier and the wide utility movepool, including the very rare defog, are the most immediate selling points to a noivern. that isn't really emphasized in this overview and i'd reword it as necessary to get that point across

Common Roles
========
**Fast Support Utility**: Access to pivoting in U-turn, disruption in Taunt, recovery in Roost and hazard removal in Defog helps Noivern provide fast support for the team whilst occasionally clicking its STAB moves. Its ability Frisk is also excellent as it provides consistent passive utility by scouting for opponent items, a mechanic especially useful in Drafts as it significantly reduces guessing games. With Frisk, Taunt and U-turn, it also works as a decent lead as it can scout for an item early on and deny opposing entry hazards while also having pivoting options.

**Revenge Killer**: Noivern can function as a decent revenge killer. Its high base speed allows it to outspeed most of the metagame naturally and using a Choice Scarf, it can outspeed most common scarf users and speed boosting threats. The speed also allows it to clean up weakened teams. However, it is important to note that non Choice Specs sets usually have to rely on low accuracy moves like Hurricane to clean up effectively. even on specs its hard to justify using air slash with that special attack

**Wallbreaker**: Although it has a mediocre base 97 Special Attack, Noivern can use boosting items like Choice Specs to function as an effective breaker. Powerful STAB moves like Hurricane and Draco Meteor, along with Flamethrower and Focus Blast to hit Steel- types, can help Noivern wear down opposing defensive cores, easing the way for other offensive threats in the team. This is aided by the fact that Flying is usually a very spammable offensive typing thanks to its limited resistances.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Draco Meteor, Hurricane, Dragon Pulse, Air Slash

**Utility Moves**: Defog, Roost, Substitute, Switcheroo, Taunt, U-turn, Whirlwind

**Coverage**: Boomburst, Dark Pulse, Flamethrower, Focus Blast, Psychic, Shadow Ball

Niche Moves
========
**Super Fang**: Using Super Fang, Noivern can punish specially defensive threats that would otherwise wall it by getting rid of 50% of their HP. would hardly call this niche tbh

Common Items
========
**Heavy Duty Boots**: Heavy Duty Boots provides Noivern protection against Stealth Rock, trading the power of using a boosting item for longevity. It enables Noivern to perform its support role better by giving it the opportunity to switch in multiple times. might make this more clear that this is what you are running 90% of the time, honestly the rest could all go to niche

**Choice Scarf**: Choice Scarf allows Noivern to function as a great revenge killer. It can outspeed most speed boosting Pokemon and hit them with powerful albeit low accuracy STAB moves. It also gains access to Switcheroo, which allows it to neutralize set-up threats in a pinch.

**Choice Specs**: Noivern becomes a potent wallbreaker through the usage of Choice Specs. Choice Specs boosted Hurricane and Draco Meteor help Noivern take advantage of a team lacking good resistances. It does leave Noivern vulnerable to entry hazards, making hazard control very important.

It works especially well if Noivern is a tera captain as it can use Tera Normal boosted Boomburst with it. It also allows Noivern to switch between powerful boosted moves and fulfil a more flexible breaker role.

**Resist Berries**: Noivern's serviceable bulk makes it a good candidate for holding Yache, Roseli, Charti, or Haban Berries, allowing it to tank a hit and knockout a Pokemon in return. don't think this is realistic

**Damage boosting Items**: Items like Expert Belt, Life Orb or type specific boosting plates sacrifice the raw power of Choice Specs for the ability to switch moves while still being able to boost damage. However, these sets can easily be worn down by residual damage and Stealth Rock.

Tera
========
Noivern is a mediocre primary tera captain as it is very one dimensional in its offensive capabilities and has lackluster defenses to warrant a defensive terastallization. I don't think this point is entirely necessary, think you can just start pointing out its a good secondary tera cap; however i'd also be clear that you don't *need* tera on it for it to accomplish its most important utility roles. However, it can work as a serviceable secondary tera captain. Tera Normal allows it to gain STAB on Boomburst, a 140 Base Power move, turning Noivern into a fearsome breaker. Tera Dragon or Flying can be used as options to further boost the power of Draco Meteor or Hurricane respectively. Niche options include tera Fire or Fighting to gain STAB on its coverage moves to hit opposing Steel types.

knock off absorbing is important, noivern can't check a lot of fighting types because it doesn't want to take a knock

could add a point on pokemon that can take advantage of fairy types, in the same vein as the ground and fighting type bullet, i'll leave that to you/qc2 if it gets too wordy though

I would like a mention that this set still struggles to break Steels and bulkier pokemon.

**Steel Types**: A good Steel- type Pokemon covers all of Noivern's defensive weaknesses. Noivern usually has to switch out of offensive super effective moves and having a Steel type Pokemon on the team can help absorb those hits by resisting them. Steel- types are also useful for taking advantage of opposing Fairy-, Rock- and Ice- types. Pokemon like Tinkaton, Heatran and Gholdengo are good candidates for this role.

**Ground and Fighting types**: Noivern struggles to wrestle past Rock- and Steel- type Pokemon even with coverage. Rapid Spinners like Iron Treads, Terapagos make for good canditates. Mention defog is suboptimal as it removes your own hazards.

Checks and Counters
========
**Special walls**: With Hurricane’s low accuracy, Draco Meteor’s stat drawbacks and a general lack of other powerful STAB moves, Noivern struggles to wear down almost any special wall with recovery. Specially defensive Steel and Fairy types are especially nice for this role. Pokemon like Florges and Empoleon can take hits from Noivern over multiple turns and heal off any damage it does. Even without recovery, some specially defensive Pokemon like Ting Lu and Diancie can tank hits from Noivern and threaten it back with super effective moves. try to use a more commonly drafted example than florges.

**Faster Pokemon**: Pokemon naturally faster than Noivern can usually take advantage of its weaknesses and check it offensively by outspeeding it and threatening it with devastating hits. Pokemon like Iron Boulder, Weavile and Darkrai all outspeed noivern and OHKO it given the right circumstances. Opposing Choice Scarf users can also fulfil this role against non Choice Scarf sets.

**Stealth Rock**: Noivern’s more offensive sets get easily worn down if Stealth Rocks are up on the field. Stealth Rocks severely cut down its longevity, allowing it to only switch in only a few times.

**Knock Off**: I think there should be a section about knock as noivern is incredibly item reliant to either have longevity or deal damage, it is very poor without an item.

Thanks for writing! As mentioned on Discord, you can use the reply method detailed in step 3 of this post for quick and easy implementation.
blue = add
red = remove
(orange) = comment

(note: in some places, you used curly apostrophes. i replaced them with ASCII apostrophes and marked with "(ASCII)" where i did so. as long as you use the reply method, you don't need to do anything but delete the comment)

[overview]
**Draft Order**: Round 5 onwards
(add line break)
**Price Range**: 9-10 points

**Overview**: With an excellent speed Speed tier, decent special attack Special Attack, and access to a diverse utility movepool, Noivern finds a place as a useful support Pokemon in on a variety of drafts. It gets access to the sparsely distributed Defog, a valuable commodity in Generation 9 (don't reference generational changes). With Frisk and access to a fast Taunt and U-turn, it can act as a fast pivot while scouting for items on the opponent's (ASCII) team. Its Dragon- and Flying- Dragon / Flying type combination matches up well offensively into against a large portion of the metagame while also providing useful resistances to common typings, (AC) including an immunity to Ground. It also occasionally serves as a wallbreaker with access to high-Base (AH) Power STAB moves like Hurricane and Draco Meteor; (ASC) however, (AC) it requires an item to achieve necessary damage amounts KO thresholds. Noivern's (ASCII) weakness to Stealth Rock and mediocre bulk hinder defensive sets and make it heavily reliant on Heavy-Duty (AH) Boots. Additionally, its primary STAB moves suffer from significant drawbacks, forcing the user it to usually choose between reliability and damage, making offensive sets slightly harder to run.

[strategy comments]

Common Roles
========
**Fast Utility**: Access to pivoting in U-turn, disruption in Taunt, reliable damage via in (parallelism) Super Fang, recovery in Roost, (AC) and entry hazard removal in Defog helps Noivern provide fast support for the team whilst while occasionally clicking using its STAB moves. Its ability Frisk is also excellent, (AC) as it provides consistent passive utility by scouting for opponent opposing items, a mechanic especially useful in Drafts Draft, as it significantly reduces guessing games.

**Revenge Killer**: Noivern can function as a decent revenge killer. Its high base speed Speed allows it to outspeed most of the metagame naturally, (AC) and speed-boosting as well as Speed-boosting Pokemon when using a Choice Scarf. The speed Its Speed also allows it to clean up weakened teams. However, it is important to note that it usually has to rely on low-accuracy (AH) moves like Hurricane to clean up effectively.

**Wallbreaker**: Although it has a mediocre base 97 (dex info) Special Attack, Noivern can use damage-boosting items like Choice Specs to function as an effective wallbreaker. (remove double space) Powerful STAB moves like Hurricane and Draco Meteor, neutral coverage in Boomburst and Flamethrower, (AC) and Focus Blast to hit Steel-types (removed space, RC) can help Noivern wear down opposing defensive cores, easing the way for other offensive threats in on the team. (remove double space) This is aided by the fact that Flying is usually a very spammable offensive typing thanks to its the limited resistances number of Pokemon resistant to it.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Draco Meteor, Hurricane, Dragon Pulse, Air Slash
(add line break)
**Setup Moves**: None

**Utility Moves**: Defog, Roost, Substitute, Super Fang, Switcheroo, Taunt, U-turn, Whirlwind
(add line break)
**Coverage**: Boomburst, Dark Pulse, Flamethrower, Focus Blast, Psychic, Shadow Ball

Niche Moves
========
**Psychic Noise**: On builds where Noivern finds it difficult to choose between coverage and Taunt, Noivern it can use Psychic Noise to deny recovery on passive Pokemon while also dealing damage.

**Tailwind**: (remove double space) Noivern's frailty and Speed makes make it a serviceable late-game (AH) Tailwind user. In certain games, it can use Tailwind as a final cry before dying and provide a speed Speed boost for its teammates to clean the game.

Common Items
========
**Heavy-Duty (AH) Boots**: (remove double space) A majority of Noivern builds run Heavy-Duty (AH) Boots, (AC) as it provides protection against Stealth Rock, trading the power of using a damage-boosting item for longevity. It enables Noivern to perform its support role comfortably by giving it the opportunity to switch in multiple times.

**Choice Scarf**: Choice Scarf allows Noivern to function as a great revenge killer. It can outspeed most speed boosting Speed-boosting Pokemon and hit them with powerful, (AC) albeit low-accuracy, (AH, AC) STAB moves. It also gains has access to Switcheroo, which allows it to neutralize setup (RH) threats in a pinch.

**Choice Specs**: Noivern becomes a serviceable wallbreaker through the usage of using Choice Specs. Choice Specs-boosted (AH) Hurricane and Draco Meteor help Noivern take advantage of a team lacking good resistances. It This does leave Noivern vulnerable to entry hazards, making hazard control very important.

Niche Items
========
** (added asterisk) Throat Spray**: Throat Spray allows Noivern to use Boomburst while simultaneously receiving a Special Attack Boost boost. It works especially well if Noivern is a tera captain Tera Captain, as it can use Tera Normal-boosted (AH) Boomburst with it this. It also allows Noivern to switch between powerful boosted moves and fulfil fulfill a more flexible wallbreaker role.

**Damage-boosting (AH) Items**: Items like Expert Belt, Life Orb, (AC) or type specific boosting plates and type-specific damage-boosting items sacrifice the raw power of Choice Specs for the ability to let Noivern switch moves while still being able to boost boosting its damage. However, these sets can easily be worn down by residual damage and Stealth Rock.

**Eject Pack**: Noivern can use Eject Pack in some circumstances to gain momentum while clicking using Draco Meteor instead of U-turn for extra damage.

Tera
========
While still generally outclassed by other primary and secondary captains Tera Captains, Noivern has niches that make it worth consideration. It is important to note that Noivern does not need to terastallize Terastallize to fulfil its support role well. Tera Normal allows it to gain STAB on Boomburst, a 140 Base Power move, (dex info) turning Noivern it into a fearsome wallbreaker. Tera Dragon or Flying can be used as options to further boost the power of Draco Meteor or Hurricane, (AC) respectively. Niche options include tera Tera Fire or and Fighting to gain STAB on its Noivern's coverage moves to hit opposing Steel-types (AH). However, it is very one-dimensional (AH) in its offensive capabilities and has too lackluster defenses to warrant a defensive terastallization Terastallization.

Draft Strategy
========
Noivern is a very flexible Pokemon, so it is not advisable to plan a draft around it. It provides a relatively cheap option for speed control and role compression for a lot of drafts. However, Noivern can always benefit from having teammates that fulfil fulfill certain roles.

** (added asterisk) Wallbreakers**: Noivern's (ASCII) access to a fast U-turn and a wide utility movepool helps it enable other wallbreakers by bringing them in safely. It can do so by threatening to outspeed and kill KO something with its STABs STAB moves and clicking then using U-turn, (AC) anticipating a switch. Slow Pokemon like Ursaluna-Bloodmoon and Iron Hands particularly benefit from this ability, (AC) as they struggle to switch in otherwise. Frail Pokemon like Iron Valiant and Lycanroc-Dusk also appreciate this ability.

**Steel Types Steel-types**: A good Steel-type (removed space) Pokemon covers all of Noivern's defensive weaknesses. Noivern usually has to switch out of offensive super effective moves, (AC) and having a Steel-type (AH) Pokemon on the team can help absorb those hits by resisting them. Steel-types (removed space) are also useful for taking advantage of opposing Fairy-, Rock-, (AC) and Ice-types (removed space). Pokemon like Tinkaton and Gholdengo are good candidates for this role.

**Ground- (AH) and Fighting-types (AH)**: Noivern struggles to wrestle past Rock- and Steel-type (removed space) Pokemon even with coverage. Having teammates like Sneasler, Iron Valiant, Excadrill, and Great Tusk can help with that weakness, further enabling its offensive sets. Fighting-types (AH) also function as Knock Off absorbers, which is important because Noivern usually does not appreciate losing its item.

**Entry Hazard Control**: Though Noivern itself has access to Defog, it benefits a lot from having another teammate being able to control entry hazards. Defog is suboptimal in instances where the user wants to keep hazards up on the opposing side. Rapid Spin support allows Noivern to run offensive sets more freely without worrying about Stealth Rock and also acts as a safety net against Knock Off. Rapid Spinners like Iron Treads (RC) and Terapagos make for good canditates candidates.

Checks and Counters
========
**Special walls Walls**: With Hurricane's (ASCII) low accuracy, Draco Meteor's (ASCII) stat drawbacks, (AC) and a general lack of other powerful STAB moves, Noivern struggles to wear down almost any special wall with recovery. Specially defensive Steel- (AH) and Fairy-types (AH) are especially nice for this role. Pokemon like Clefable and Empoleon can take hits from Noivern over multiple turns and heal off any damage it does. Even without recovery, some specially defensive Pokemon like Ting-Lu (AH) and Diancie can tank hits from Noivern and threaten it back with super effective moves.

**Faster Pokemon**: Pokemon naturally faster than Noivern can usually take advantage of its weaknesses and check it offensively by outspeeding it and threatening it with devastating hits. Pokemon like Iron Boulder, Weavile, (AC) and Darkrai all outspeed noivern Noivern and OHKO it, (AC) given the right circumstances. Opposing Choice Scarf users can also fulfil fulfill this role against non-Choice (AH) Scarf sets.

**Stealth Rock**: Noivern's (ASCII) more offensive sets get easily worn down if Stealth Rocks are Rock is up on the field. Stealth Rocks Rock severely cut cuts down its longevity, allowing it to only switch in only a few times.

**Knock Off**: Knock Off is very effective against Noivern becayse it does not appreciate losing its item for any of its sets. Losing because on any of its sets, losing (filler) its item significantly reduces Noivern's its longevity or its wallbreaking capacity.
