Due to the hardship of running Sun Team in this current metagame, I switched to Rain teams instead.
I have these few rules; Don't use mons that everyone uses:
That includes Breloom, Scizor, Genies, Dragonite, Conkeldurr, Ferrothorn, Genesect, Skarmory and pink blobs. This rule seems to limit versatility of a team, but actually, it's the other way around. Using too Overused mons result in being countered by everything else. So, please don't tell me to use those.
Politoed (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Focus Blast
- Ice Beam
- Hydro Pump
- Hidden Power [Electric]
Politoed is my weather inducer. What more should I say? It can 2hko Blissey with +4 Hydro in Rain. So after 4 CMs, this team is nearly unstoppable. HP Electric is to get Gyarados and... nothing else... Grass could work here. Tell me what you think about here. Ice Beam / Focus blast are obvious choices. This is the most standard thing here. But I don't like countering Ferrothorn with Focus miss. That's pretty much for Hydreigon and Tyranitar.
Dragonite (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Multiscale
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Dragon Tail
- Thunder
- Hurricane
- Roost
Dragonite is the ACE of this team. As the only one that has access to two Rain abusing moves: Hurricane and Thunder, has decent SpA of 100, and incredible bulk due to Multiscale lets sweep. Only thing that can OHKO it after few CMs is Mamoswine, which my other mons can clear. Ice Beams are not much threat after +2 CMs, unless it is stab. So firing Hurricane and Thunder after receiving BP is basically everything, while countering Roar / Whirlwind with Dragon Tail. It's faster than any form of Heatran or Skarmory, so I can throw them away.
Espeon (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Wish
- Stored Power
- Baton Pass
Espeon is the core of this team. Baton Passing CMs to everyone except Toxicroak, counters hazards and provides wish supports. Stored Power was my choice between Psyshock / Psychic. Wish and defensive EVs lets it survive longer, while CM provides Special Defence boost. It can sweep on its own, run away with BP if there comes big bad guy like Tyranitar or any dark / steel mons come.
Porygon2 @ Eviolite
Trait: Trace
EVs: 252 HP / 224 Def / 4 SDef / 28 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Charge Beam
- Ice Beam
- Recover
- Thunder Wave
Porygon2 is my beloved one. 252 / 224 provides all the defense you need combined with Eviolite. It has 1.3 times the overall bulk of Cresselia. Better physical defense than that of Impish 252 / 252 Gliscor, and better Special defence than that of Calm 252 / 252 Latias. Lacking resistance is bad, but it has trace, providing useful traits like Poison heal, Flash fire, Volt Absorb, Multiscale, etc.
Charge beam gradually strengthens it, making it early-to-late game sweeper. Ice beam for coverage and Thunder Wave provides speed. This cute little monster can even take stab Close Combat, paralyze, and Charge Beam / Recover until the target dies or runs out of PP. The reason I focused so much on defense is because I have CM / BP. If the opponent is Hyper Offense without anything like Toxic / Trick, this thing can 6-0.
Toxicroak (M) @ Black Sludge
Trait: Dry Skin
EVs: 40 HP / 252 Atk / 216 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Sucker Punch
- Bulk Up
- Drain Punch
- Substitute
Toxicroak is my choice of fighting mons. Setting subs only costs 1/16 of HP per turn, while this thing gets consistently strong and bulky with Bulk Up. Drain Punch is to deal with other weathers, Sucker Punch OHKOs Lati@s, and gives coverage. Switch it in front of toxic inducers, throw up sub and bulk up / substitute until I have sufficient rank-ups to do anything. Then I either Drain HP or Sucker Punch anything that tries to break my sub. This thing can just use all the subs I want and drain it from opponents.
Roserade (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Leaf Storm
- Aromatherapy
- Weather Ball
- Sleep Powder
Roserade's may seem odd. But it's my anti-rain and supporter. Leaf Storm does obvious damage to Terrakion, Politoed, Gastrodon, Swampert, Vaporeon and other bulky waters. Weather ball is for predict-shots for skarmory and Fire mons aka Heatran who would come to block Leaf storm. Aromatherapy is for the team support and sleep powder with scarf mean that I can play 6:5 against anyone.
Pretty unorthodox, isn't it?
