So since Excadrill and Thundurus got banned, I decided to make a team that doesn't rely on weather. So I created this OU team and tried it out on PO, and it seems to work very well.
First thing first, I decided to use a core faladran posted on his website and try it out. This core was Skarmory, Gastrodon, and Heatran, since they have great defensive synergy and typing.
Skarmory (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Atk
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Brave Bird
- Spikes
- Roost
- Whirlwind
I decided I wanted to have a lot of entry hazards since my main core forces a lot of switches, so Skarmory + Spikes was my main (and only) option. Skarmory is also a pretty good counter to any variant of haxorus, since I can eat any of it's attacks and roost off the damage. Pretty much the classic skarmory set...
Gastrodon (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 SDef
Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spd)
- Toxic
- Scald
- Recover
- Earthquake
Ah Gastrodon, Rotom-W's best friend. Gastrodon is basically there for anti rain and to wall rotom-w to oblivion. I can normally toxic anything freely, since Jirachi won't like switching into EQ and opposing Skarmory will not want to get burned. EQ and Scald hit a lot of common threats like Tyranitar, Infernape, Landorus, Ninetales, etc. Yet Gastrodon is naturally walled by Celebi when lacking ice beam.
Heatran (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 248 SDef / 8 Spd
Hardy Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Lava Plume
- Toxic
- Roar
I needed a Celebi counter + something to take specs Draco Meteors from Latios, therefore Heatran was a good option. Stealth rocks are always nice, since it helps fare against Volcarona and Dragonite, two very dangerous sweepers in OU. Lava plume is there for the 30% chance burn rate and toxic is for bulky water types such as Vaporeon.
Jellicent (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Water Absorb
EVs: 248 HP / 216 Def / 44 SAtk
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Surf
- Shadow Ball
- Will-O-Wisp
- Recover
Since the team so far heavily relies on entry hazards, a bulky spin blocker is mandatory to keep them up. Common spinners are Forretress, Tentracruel, and Starmie. I can switch into a rapid spin and burn Forretress, stall out Tentacruel (what's it going to even do other than lay t-spikes?) and Shadow Ball Starmie. Jellicent is also a great counter to Infernape and Scizor, so it's a very valuable team member. Though the fact that I do not carry taunt really blows since I can't shut down Blissey or Vaporeon. But since I have Shadow Ball, common switch-ins like Celebi will think twice when they switch in.
Conkeldurr (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Guts
EVs: 120 HP / 252 Atk / 136 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Bulk Up
- Drain Punch
- Mach Punch
- Stone Edge
I realized I this point that I really lacked a physical attacker. Then Conkeldurr came to mind. Pretty much the standard set, but I'm running Stone-Edge over Payback to hit some flying types, such as Salamence for instance. Gliscor gives Conkeldurr some trouble, but since I have 2 water types with access to Recover, it shouldn't be as big of a problem. Conkeldurr is also my Blissey switch-in and check.
Celebi @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Trick
- Leaf Storm
- Earth Power
- Hidden Power [Ice]
Finally, I needed a final Pokemon to fit the team and glue it altogether. Celebi became the perfect choice for many reasons. With a choice scarf, Celebi becomes a very big threat. Trick allows me to cripple Blissey and Ferrothorn who cause me some difficulties. Leaf Storm is a strong stab that one hit ko's choiced Politoed and does around 50% to specially defensive T-tar, yet I must be wary of pursuit. Earth power hits Heatran and opposing fire types. HP Ice kills Dragonite if multiscale is no longer intact. U-turn could be a viable move for this set to scout, but I can't seem to find an opening.
So that is the team, let me know what you guys think :)
