Hello Smogon, first at all, thanks to everyone that takes the time to read this RMT
Well, I decided make a team for Wi-FI and use it for the New Generation, for the lot new threats that come with that, I thought use it in the PO for see how good could be, thats why in this team I don’t use Hidden Power (because I can’t control the IVs in the game and I don’t know how to make use of the RNG abuse) and i neither “legendaries” but thats it, the team is almost ready (I think so) for the Wi-Fi so, before end with and go for other team, the best thing was try to do the most competitive team posible.
I choose make a Sandstorm team because in the last generation, Tyranitar was one of the best pokemons that i could use and with the new sand abusers, I say “and why not”, of course, the main team actually is quite different of the team that i thought in the beggining and that is good thing to improve.
Something true is that some pokemons are the “staple” of the Sands team but for have my own touch is that I try use my own sets for the surprise factor but of course, if I have one set from here, its because it works.
Team Building Process
Tyranitar-Excadrill-Garchomp
Tyranitar was the first to go, after all, it was for him that the team mas made and for that and as a sand team, it was necessary 2 sweepers sand abusers, the old good Garchomp and the new Excadrill
Tyranitar-Excadrill-Garchomp-Skarmory-Shuckle-Bronzong
Now that the offensive was covered, it was necessary the defensive side so I thought in Skarmory for the defensive side and Shuckle for the special defensive side with the help of the sandstorm, to have even more defenses, I thought in Dual Screen Bronzong to let to my sweepers set up even more and clean the house
Tyranitar-Excadrill-Garchomp-Ferrothorn-Reuniclus-Skarmory
It was pretty fast when I realice that Bronzong and Shuckle isn’t was doing enough for the team, plus, I was in need of someone that could stop to the water type and I was too in need of a special attacker, there is when comes in Ferrothorn and Reuniclus
Tyranitar-Excadrill-Garchomp-Ferrothorn-Gliscor-Reuniclus
The team worked for a while but then, I realice of something, the team was pretty weak to powerfull fighting pokemons, especially to a increasingly popular, Bulk Up Conkelldur because even Skarmory cannot stand against him and if Reuncilus was dead or weak, a single payback was enough to obliterate my team, someone tell me that it could be a good idea use a poison Heal or substiveil Gliscor and it was a pretty good idea.
Tyranitar-Excadrill-Garchomp-Ferrothorn-Gliscor-Jelicent
It take a some time but, I realice that my team was, again, in really big troubles with one single pokemon, Azumarril was a monster against me, literally, OHKO or 2OhKO all my team with the Aqua jet+superpower+ice punch set, it was then when a friend tell me about the pokemon what it would be an excellent pokemon for the team for a lot reasons: Jellicent
Afters some more battles, I decided make some changes in the EVs investment and the moveset and in the end, the team stays in a way that actually work pretty well because with it, I arrive to the top 60 in the Smogon Server (then I took vacations and for 2 weeks without use the computer, for when I return, I was pretty down in the ladder) And to be honest, all that battles of +7/+4 and -20/-40 isn’t was of my taste
Team at a glance:
This team its mainly focus in the offensive power of Sword Dance, maybe 3 users can sound like too much or unbalanced but the fact is that everyone of them do a completely different role and way to work out his job meanwhile the support of the defensive core help them to counter some of the other threats but always trusting in the surprise factor of the Tyranitar.
Lets see the team:
Tyranitar
The lead, the mixed, the revenge killer
Tyranitar (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 4 HP / 212 Atk / 40 SAtk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Crunch
- Ice Beam
- Fire Blast
- Stone Edge
Since the beginning, Tyranitar was the idea to make the team and, so he is the lead of my team, being the lead, besides the obvious of set up the sandstorm , I tried a lot sets with him, since the lead set from here, a dragon dance set, a physical set, mixed set and Choice Band and Choice Scarf but after a lot tries and sets, this is the chosen set that I like most.
Maybe the weirdest set in all my team or at least in who I worked more, a great surprise factor that nobody expect and, actually it works.
ScarfTar of lead can be a curious choice but a lot people when see a Tyranitar think in a lead set or in a mixed set, there is few people that actually expect a ScarTar, thanks to that, Tyranitar can easily take down a lot fast pokemon with Crunch and Stone Edge as Ninetales leads, Gengars and others, a especial use for him is absorb the Latios Draco Meteor and then Crunch him, almost nobody change Latios and prevent the clean OHKO.
My personal touch comes with the Special investment, with the normal physical and Scarfset, Tyranitar is walled for guys like Gliscor, Skarmory, Scizor, Hippowdon and other physical walls but the EVs in SAtk let him clean OHKO and 2OHKO walls and other theats like Landorus because when they see to Tyranitar, usually they don’t change and that let me OHKO him.
Its pretty useful when the other guy has physical walls and expect walls to Tyranitar when he is send out only to be OHKO or 2OHKO by a pretty fast special attack and as the wheather starter, I have to keep him alive so being locked in one move usually is not a problema, so, basically he is a Revenge Killer.
Oh yeah, the Naive nature is for don’t mess up with the attack estadistics and as the SDef increases 1.5 for the Sandstorm, its not so bad and still have a nice SDef.
Excadrill
The late Sand Abuser, the fast guy
Excadrill (M) @ Air Balloon
Trait: Sand Rush
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Swords Dance
- X-Scissor
- Rock Slide
Well, is the staple set for Excadrill in any offensive sandstorm team, I guess that everyone know this guy and what can do, the way to use it is pretty simple, wait until the counters of the other team being fainted and then just try to set up once and clean the house but, there are sometimes where even in the beginning of the battle, I use to Excadrill to eliminate theaths that are too fast and/or too strong for the other members of the team.
The main reason to have Jolly+Air Ballon is to counter other Excadrills because the Adamant+Air ballon are destroyed for the Jolly Excadrills and I need the extra speed to outspeed pokemon with +2 Spd for agility, 2 Quiver Dance or Dragon Dance, etc, and the reason to don’t use LO its because in Excadrill that its an iman of priority attacks, just let him 1 HP it can be the difference between sweep all his team and think what is going to be the next step.
The main reason for have X-Scissor above Brick Break is, honestly, for Latios, maybe some people can think that have one move just for one pokemon is just too much but when that pokemon is capable to oblitérate entire teams just for himself for his amazing SAtk andSpD and unpredictable sets, I prefer be prepared and don’t depend on my Tyranitar.
Gliscor
Physical Wall, Status Absorver, Bulky Sweeper
Gliscor (M) @ Toxic Orb
Trait: Poison Heal
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Def / 4 Spd
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Fire Fang
- Swords Dance
- Ice Fang
With the upcoming of a lot threats in the form of fighting pokemon in V Generation, it was necessary something that could take hits from and then counterattack and is there where comes Gliscor because of all the physical walls that there is out there, this is the guy that to be a wall, have the impressive base speed and attack of 95 what let him outspeed a lot things even without no EV investment and the nothing bad attack that with Earthquake and one SD or even two if my oponent let me, let him be the bulky sweeper of the team.
Why Poison Heal instead sand veil+substitute? Well, they are some reasons:
Poison Heal Gliscor with max Defense works as a wall, just let him go out one turn in that you think that your oponent do an Earthquake or electric thing like Thunder Wave and its ready to start to wall but just to outspeed another Gliscors, it have 4 EVs in Speed.
As you can see, the work of this guy its be my physical wall but if my oponent lets me, after one Sword Dance or even two if i can, it becomes in a Bulky Sweeper and thats it because they usually send some pokemon to wall to my Gliscor and for the coverage of Earth+Ice+Fire it let me do some damage with him and for when they send something really theathing like Starmie, Latios or any other special sweeper, Gliscor already eliminated to someone.
The best of the cases for me is when they, after the Sword Dance, send someone to take the Earthquake and if my predict that correctly, It can kill himself thanks to Ice Fang ant then, just be the Bulky Sweeper that can be.
Ferrothorn
Mixed Wall, Annoyer, Stealth Rock user
Ferrothorn (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SDef
Careful Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Leech Seed
- Stealth Rock
- Thunder Wave
- Power Whip
Just as I did my weather team, there is a lot of others teams with that theme and the most dangerous is the powerful Rain that with doeble STAB water attacks and Thunder/Hurricane perfect shot, it was necessary something that could stop them but this little plant can do more that just that.
This EV spread let him survive the most of the Special attacks that are almost always, the main way to hit for rain team and Defense help let him survive to a lot physicals attacks that are commonly used in sandstorm teams but the reason to improve his SDef with the nature was to resist the Drago Meteor because for Outrage there are other options in the team but the Draco Meteor can be deadly and who knows in what state is going to be Tyranitar, the use of Power Whip instead Gyro Ball is to take down the water, rock and ground pokemon that be in the weathers teams as Politoed, Tyranitar, Excadrill, Quagsire, Starmie and others.
This guy has two ways to work and the usually way is just arrive, use Thunder Wave to paralyze some oponent (I have to be careful with Magic Bounce users like Espeon) and then use the Leech Seed to gain life but sometimes, is better use another time the Thunder Wave to paralyze too to the pokemon that can be the killer of Ferrothorn, the other way is arrive to eliminate one pokemon with Power Whip and then run because when they see that they pokemon are paralyze or with leech seed, they change it so its better just finish him quickly.
The reason to use Stealth Rock instead Spikes is for two reasons:
A) Ferrothorn is in the team as my counter to the Weathers team and with the Stealth Rock, that can include to the Sun teams thanks to the minimal 25% of damage to the Fire sweepers and Ninetales in every change.
B) Even if Spikes can do more damage, the fact is that Stealth Rock just need 1 turn to set up, if the oponent has a Rapid Spin user, I can easily set up again the SR instead the 3 turns that I would lose if i set up Spikes just to be flwn away for the Rapid Spin.
The only part where after some time i’m still not sure of what to do is about the ítem, I have the Leftovers for inmediate recovery besides the Leech Seed but i don’t think that can be for the ítem clausule so, i’m not sure if use the Big Rootto try recover life with the Leech Seed or go for the offensive way with ítems like The Muscle Band, Wide Lens or Expelt Belt but any suggestion is welcome.
Jellicent
The Burn inducer, Bait, Scout, Ghost
Jellicent (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Water Absorb
EVs: 248 HP / 208 Def / 8 SDef / 44 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Will-O-Wisp
- Scald
- Recover
- Taunt
This guy is a funny matter because when I put him in the team, I didn’t realice of the great that it would be for the team, at the begining I just have him in the team for being a wall for Azumarril and I try use it in a offensive way with Ice Beam+Toxic+Scald+Recover, it works sometimes but the ice beam just don’t do his job and, in the same time, I was having troubles with Baton Pass teams so after see this set here, I realice that work pretty well and help me a lot in the team.
To begin, his main function in this team is bring Synergy for the other members have time to do their jobs, mainly using them or to the same Jellicent as a Bait to other attacks that thanks to the defensive core of Jellicent/Gliscor/Ferrothor, I can be one step in front of my opponent and prepare my offensive.
Another work for him is in some way be my scout, he don’t have too amazing defenses but they are decent and when is couple of his great HP and recover option, it help a lot times to “uncover” the sets of the unpredictable pokemon like Dragonite, Tyranitar, Latias and others.
A Job that im glad to make him do is bring the burn to my oponent, that can be done with Will o Wisp or the Scald, the reason to have both attacks in the same set is because even if is a great chance a 30% of Scald, I can’t trust in that always is going to happen so WoW is to try to do a sure Burn and even if Toxic is great to cripple pokes like Politoed, usually I would prefer them paralyzed or burned that poisoned.
The Evs in Speed and Taunt are to let him outspeed other walls and then make them useless with Taunt, Will O Wisp and Recover, in this way, Jellicent fill a valuable job as the counter to the Stall teams because he can easily defeat to Blissey, Slowbro, Hippowdon and others walls with that set.
Of course, I can’t forget his valuable role in the weather wars because he alone can make some troubles thanks to his type and moveset and for that way, Water Absorb and Leftovers are to let him survive in a damaging weather as the sandstorm
Garchomp
The powerhouse, the haxer, the chained
Garchomp (M) @ Yache Berry
Trait: Sand Veil
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Outrage
- Fire Fang
- Swords Dance
The work of Garchomp is being in the quick and fast attacker in the way that he is strong and fast in almonst any situation thanks to his bulkiness, STAB attacks and normal speed.
So, when i’m in disavantage or do I need make a strong attack without set up a Sword Dance, usually he is the choice to make thanks to be fast and to don’t have weakness in the form of priority attacks, something that Excadrill and Tyranitar are not availabe to say.
The EVs Spread is the normal for sweepers and the Yache Berry is for let him survive the most unboosted Ice attacks, the reason to use fire fang in the moveset instead Dragon claw is to have some attack to hit Skarmory because in other way, he just wall to Garchomp, it help him too against Bronzong but they are little seen.
Other good thing for him is his ability that let him sometimes escape from the attacks and let him use a Sword Dance or make make an attack and that is prettty useful because after one or two SDs, he can be very difficult to wall even with Skarmory or Ferrothorn if i’m not stuck in Outrage, just for saying, Heatran in a Air Ballon usually make me change it because he can’t do much at least that have two or three Sword Dance.
He usually is my answer to threats like Brelom, Virizion, other dragon not Latios, and usually do a job getting in the way in the other weathers teams because if its a Sand o Sun team, the earthquake do the job and in rain, well outrage always is powerful.
And that is the team, in what respect to theats to the team, the only with that I some trouble is with Scrafty that has Shed Skin and Dragon Dance/Bulk Up and with Scarf Serperior with Contrary and Leaf Storm, only them because usually for the other there is something that I can do or something that resist it.
The team was planned to be a Wi-Fi team but as is almost ready, I thought to make it more competitive so if you think that use substitute or Hidden Power could help, im open to suggestions but, just one more thing.
As I already said, that is the team that its almost done in my DS but for two reasons is that I need make one crucial change and its that Garchomp must go out from the team because:
1)Smogon Banned him, its ok because I’m not going to talk about, its for the balance of the OU
2)In some places where I play WI-Fi, there are some guys that think that use two “titans” or “pseudolegendaries” in one team is too much cheap and as Tyranitar can’t go away from the team, its the good bye for Garchomp
For that reason is that I thought in a lot pokemons to take Garchomp place but for diverse reasons a lot of they didn’t fit and in the end, I think that these are the main posible changes because all of them have worked in the team in the tests:
Just remember that I think that the change it has to be for a Special Sweeper that can attack hard and fast to have something else with what hit in Special Side besides Jellicent
There have been more pokemon tested like Reuniclus again, Lucario in like 3 diferent sets, Zoroark, Landorus, Mienshao but all of them or was too slow or bring to much weakness to the team
Thats it, thanks to everyone that take their time to read the RMT, any help is welcome and if you have some advise for the team in PO or for Wi-Fi, I really apreciated if you share it.
Thanks a lot for the time and luck with your battles

Well, I decided make a team for Wi-FI and use it for the New Generation, for the lot new threats that come with that, I thought use it in the PO for see how good could be, thats why in this team I don’t use Hidden Power (because I can’t control the IVs in the game and I don’t know how to make use of the RNG abuse) and i neither “legendaries” but thats it, the team is almost ready (I think so) for the Wi-Fi so, before end with and go for other team, the best thing was try to do the most competitive team posible.

Why Poison Heal instead sand veil+substitute? Well, they are some reasons:
- Because I dislike substitute and the hax abuse so, usually and if i can, i don’t use it but thats not the topic.
- To have some pokemon in the team that be already with some status (work that was before in Reuniclus) and that let me counterattack Paraflich pokes, Brelooms, Burns from the Scald, Hypnosis and other things
- To have a way to recover HP without lose one turn in it like when I use Roost
- For the coverage to let me after one Sword Dance, OHKO or 2OHKO some bulky threats like Ferrothorn, Scizor, Forrethes, Skarmory, another Gliscor, Excadrill, even Politoeds because only the Scarf sets can outspeed Gliscor and with one SD and Earthquake it let him OHKO him with Stealth Rocks or just 2 Earthquakes with the trade-in and the other turn
Poison Heal Gliscor with max Defense works as a wall, just let him go out one turn in that you think that your oponent do an Earthquake or electric thing like Thunder Wave and its ready to start to wall but just to outspeed another Gliscors, it have 4 EVs in Speed.

Alakazam
D prueba (Alakazam) (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Magic Guard
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Energy Ball
- Focus Blast
- Psychic/Psyschock
- Shadow Ball
Well, i’m sure that the set can be a lot better but the main idea of hit hard and fast is pretty fulfilled with this guy, Magic Guard make wonders to him and let him use the Life Orb to more inmediate power, I thought in a Calm Mind set but is too frail to survive.
I think that him is the choice, a shame that he is not released yet for the Dream World
Starmie
D Prueba (Starmie) @ Life Orb
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Hydro Pump
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Psyshock
A good pokemon but unfornaly the recover don’t have the space to be there because the lifeo rb and sandstorm make too mych residual damage and the Choice Specs symply it not enough versatile in the team, maybe Hidden Power Fire could be better but if I use him for Wi-FI, probably that it would be the set
Virizion
Virizion @ Life Orb
Trait: Justified
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Giga Drain
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Ice]
The troll for Rain and Sand teams, I can use him in Po but no in the Wi-fi, even so, it can be a good replacement
