np: UU - Rain Drops Keep Falling on my Head

Finally wondering what the metagame would be like if ALL the BL Pokemon dropped to UU at the same time. Cresselia and Porygonz would get to duke it out with other heavy hitters like Staraptor and Yanmega! The power level would instantly go up, but would it wind up undesirable?

That would pretty cool, I reckon. We could probably have a BL metagame if people would play it. Pretty much be the same as Ubers is for OU I guess (We got enough Pokemon to actually have a metagame)

I have often wondered if permanently banning something is productive. The best example so far is if honchkrow stuck around in UU it may have made Cresselia manageable.
But purely hypothetically it is easy to conceive of a situation where two pokes who were broken in their individual metagames would totally balance eachother if in the same one.
A BL metagem would be very interesting; Cress checks staraptor and gallade, honch/yanmega check Cress (and shaymin which is further checked by crobat).
Well it doesnt matter, its all just theorymon.

@Jabba/reach: what sort of "special circumstances" will be needed to nominate Raikou?

Anyway, so this time, we ALL nominate Froslass, so that we can finally chuck it out for good!!

I can't answer for them but i presume that it is a significent change in the metagame such as chansey and registeel being voted BL (or something happening to make them less viable), which is a special circumstance to then break raikou.
There is still a question to the scale needed to be considered a "special circumstance". Is Chansey getting banned enough? Chansey and Registeel? Chansey, Registeel and Dugtrio?
We have really missed a trick not getting rid of Raikou...

I, for one, thought the title was perfect... especially since the song contains the lyrics "sleeping on the job," fellow voters!

EDIT: Also "I'm not going to stop the rain by complaining." This is almost stupidly perfect.

Hate to nitpick but wasnt he referring to the sun "sleeping on the job", which in a way is just as appropriate.

Man, i could really wear out this analogy, its taking all my effort not to.

I am going to have such an epic tantrum when I run into Aeolus...

Kinda glad I can only play Friday's tour now, I think I'd rather be dealing with airports than fighting ducks, honestly. What a bunch of bullshit after abducting the UU process for sake of the tour to begin with... this is also particularly annoying to me individually since he moved the UU tour from a week I could compete in any of the three times to a week I could only play once for no reason at all, which is a bummer since this is the only metagame I actually care about in DP. Blah.

Absolutely. In a very suspect-argumentesque fashion I spun that in a way most convenient for the joke knowing most people wouldn't bother to look the song up.

I like this point too, which is a big part of why I tend to be really conservative about removing Pokemon, especially when dropdowns are potentially looming (wouldn't it be interesting if Tentacruel came down to balance Moltres, for instance). I think we should be trying to make as few bans as possible here for that reason - in theory we're aiming for the "bar" to be as high as it can be while still balanced.

Very honest of you. i admire that.
But you seem to have missed out step two of the suspect-argumentesque guide; adamant denial in the face of all evidence.

Without creating some procedure that could unban a pokemon (which seems impractical and would be complete theorymon undermining the system as it is) you are then asking people to either have the foresight to be aware of possible drops and ban conservatively for that reason or vote on what they see. It seems clear what people will do.

Quoted so that this question doesnt get lost.

What the
duck

While I prefer the Duck metagame (even if I'm the only one), I really think this pretty ducking insulting (especially to reach and jabba for working overtime). Having us rush and even semi-compromise our suspect voting process...for what?

Whatever, more Cresselia = more easy set ups = happier Heysup. Clearly that's more important anyway.

Hey fellow UU team members. So yeah I currently like my team but I feel like need for a change. I still want to stay on the ladder but I can't make a team as good as my current one.

(I Don't even think my team can last that long)

Yeah, I think this whole last-minute change was kinda wtf. Giving people like a day to prepare was bad enough already, so I don't see how flip-flopping on this helps.

Anyway, so this time, we ALL nominate Froslass, so that we can finally chuck it out for good!!

Except, you know, people like me who don't think it's broken :P

Regarding permanent bans, I am pretty sad that P-Z got the boot forever. I'd like to think that somewhere on the horizon is a metagame where it wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb armed with an assault rifle and a grenade launcher. I'm sure there would be some way to test the waters a bit without disrupting the actual UU metagame, but that would take a lot of thinking and some reform. Meh.

It will be interesting to see how the metagame shifts. Adapting to Cress and to its counters was a huge change. I'm guessing we'll see much less of Absol, Drapion, and Spiritomb, and more of stuff like Alakazam. Probably more Raikou as well, because it can kill of Moltres and won't be overshadowed by Cress. And Dugtrio as well, because it annihilates Raikou.

I think there's a lot of criticize here with the current system of things. In the end, you're just keep repeating the same cycle until you learn that any and every pokemon that can be abused will be abused. Maybe I will propose more options to actually make laddering not seem like heavy labor and is actually interesting. How do you actually figure out which teams are OU and UU? I would think that OverUsed Pokemon are those that are used the most and UnderUsed pokemon are those that are not used very much. I don't think it should have to do with how people perform in matches. Kids complain about everything . This is not even close to a solution!

Ive got to agree with Heysup on this one. Guys it may be a bitter pill seeing the ducks on tour but jabba and reach have done everything they can to stop it so save your complaints here, out of respect for them.

The ducks came down the ducks went up nothing else has happened; there is always the possibility that the metagame will go back to exactly what it was before.

I think none of the complaints (at least not mine) were aimed at Jabba and Reach. I'm not saying this is anyone's fault (and I'm sure this isn't theirs, as they are only responsible for the UU tier, and not tournaments), and as Aeolus himself stated they tried and couldn't adapt the ban list in time for tourney; but I'm frustrated we rushed the voting for nothing.
