Project NU Archetype Cores [Dragon / Fire / Flying]

Week 10 - Winner
I congratulate the winner Roxiee!

Roxiee's core: :cramorant::stunfisk-galar::aromatisse:
Cramorant @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Gulp Missile
EVs: 248 HP / 204 SpD / 56 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Defog
- Surf
- Hurricane / Brave Bird
- Roost

Aromatisse @ Leftovers / Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Aroma Veil
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Wish
- Protect
- Aromatherapy

Stunfisk-Galar @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Mimicry
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Pain Split
- Stone Edge
Cramorant is a nice SpD check to Ninetales and helps with Rapidash with its FIre-type resistance whereas Galarian Stunfisk and Aromatisse are setup fodder for both. However, Cramorant is weak to Rock- and Electric-type attacks, so Galarian Stunfisk pairs well with Cramorant as they each covers each other weaknesses. Aromatisse is cleric for both along with a nice Gallade check with its defensive stats, while in return G-Fisk helps with special-attackers like Duraludon that otherwise does a lot of chip. Helmet on G-Fisk is also to punish Pokemon that use U-turn a lot like Ninjask or Silvally-forms.

I'll wait for CT before continuing!

Week 12: Fire, Water, Grass 2.0

The second DLC gifted us with some really cool toys. For me, one of the cooles additions are the new fires types we got. We finally got more than only two viable fire types and even some that have really solid defensive capabilities. I don't think I have to explain the FWG core since its the most well known one.
The DLC not only gave us more fire types but also some new defensive but also solid offensive water types and grass types we can explore and get to know.

To aid your team-building, I have put together a list of viable Pokemon for each type, although you are not limited to this list.

alola eggy + walrein + coalossal

:exeggutor-alola: :walrein: :coalossal:

Exeggutor-Alola @ Leftovers
Ability: Frisk
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Quiet Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Draco Meteor
- Giga Drain
- Flamethrower
- Trick Room

Walrein @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Brave Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Swords Dance
- Liquidation
- Earthquake
- Icicle Spear

Coalossal @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Rock Blast
- Overheat
- Rapid Spin

Explanation:
This core works as follows: Alola-Exeggutor serves as a nice Trick Room-setter helping out Walrein to be an effective threat as this mon is compared to the rest of the metagame rather slow with so many speedy mons on the table of NU. Coalossal helps these two in the way of setting up Stealth Rocks and also with removing entry hazards for these two teampartners and the rest of the team.

Coalossal runs a relaxed nature to not lower any of the offensive stats it has so Rock Blast and Overheat will still do the maximum amount of damage. It has Flame Body to threaten the many U-turners in the tier such as Ribombee, Ninjask, Crobat, and Silvallies, which can serve as a nice help for Alola-Exeggutor and Walrein in the later game.
Alola-Exeggutor has its Dual-Stab alongside Flamethrower to weaken annoying Steel-types and also opposing bulky Grass-types, Giga Drain and Leftovers are for longevity to perform its role as a Trick Room-setter perfectly.
Walrein on the other hand has now access to Swords Dance and it can be abused as a physical setup-sweeper in this case under Trick Room. It has Liquidation and Icicle Spear as its Dual-Stabs and Earthquake for coverage, as Ground-type Moves are always a nice Coverage-option in general.

The EV spreads are pretty self-explanatory, Alola-Exeggutor has a Quiet nature as, when it has to swap in again when its Trick Room is still up, it underspeeds every mon on the field. Walrein is the same with a Brave nature and 0 IVs in Speed to function well as a Sweeper under Trick Room. Coalossal has been granted a maximum amount of bulk with 252 HP and also 252 Def, the remaining 4 are put into the SpD.

In overall they can be a dangerous Core, as Walrein has the strong Dual-Stab option alongside Ground-coverage and they are able to check each others weaknesses like Ninetales, Gastrodon, Golbat, and Ribombee.

Exeggutor-Alola @ Choice Specs

Centiskorch @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fire Lash
- Leech Life
- Power Whip
- Knock Off

Here's how it works.

Exeggutor-A is the breaker of the core. It has perfect neutral coverage against the whole tier with its move combo. Unfortunately, Exeggutor-A falls over if a single snowflake touches it, which is where Jellicent comes in. Jellicent walls the things that would destroy the tree. The problem is, both of these things are special attackers, and they cant touch special walls. So I plopped on a Centiskorch because I could.

I've been working on a team for the Magmortar submissions but these are three mons apart of the team and I have Taunt Magmortar to prevent defensive Pokemon like Weezing or Porygon 2 from recovering. While Magmortar acts as a Stallbreaker and Trevenant acts as a wallbreaker for the core, Lanturn can bring in both Pokemon safely with Volt Switch. Lanturn helps with Flying- and Fire-type Pokemon that threatens Trevenant like Rotom-Fan and Magmortar while in return. Magmortar helps with Steel- and Grass-type Pokemon that Trevenant and Lanturn needs extra support in while Trevenant helps with Ground- and Rock-type Pokemon like Rhydon, Sandaconda, or Cradily that otherwise threatens both.

Heya! I will be Co-Hosting this with corthius now, ty for adding me :3
Week 12: Rock, Grass, Flying
With the Crown Tundra release, NU was given quite a few Rock-type Pokemon like Regirock, Aurorus, Coalossal, and Aggron, which are pretty relevant in the current meta and pairing these Rock-types with a Grass-type such as Tangela, Whimsicott, Thwackey, and Trevenant, helps with Water- and Ground-type Pokemon. Deciding between helping with Steel- or Fighting-type Pokemon, we've decided that the 3rd type will by Flying, to help with Fighting-type Pokemon along with having some interesting choices like Crobat, Drifblim, Swoobat, and Ninjask. Here is a list of Pokemon to aid you in your teambuilding, however you are not limited to this list, Good Luck!

lycanroc + trevenant + altaria

:lycanroc: / :trevenant: / :altaria:
Lycanroc @ Life Orb
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Stone Edge
- Close Combat
- Accelerock

Trevenant @ Choice Band
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Wood Hammer
- Poltergeist
- Horn Leech
- Rock Slide

Altaria @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Flamethrower
- Dragon Pulse
- Roost
- Defog
this core has a nice synergy as lycanroc can check dangerous flying types, which can threaten trevenant, in return trevenant can switch into fighting types, which can be troublesome for lycanroc. lycanroc can also revengekill centiskorch, sneasel, and other faster threats via the help of accelerock as it is stab and priority. trevenant offers alongside altaria a great water-resist and can also help vs pokemon like lanturn, jellicent, and vaporeon, whereas lycanroc is a great tool to remove rapidash. altaria is a great defogger with a great typing in dragon and flying and it can check fire-, water- and fighting-pokemon for the former two. altaria has also great longevity with having access to roost. in overall the core cancels out many weaknesses against other common pokemon such as golbat, crobat, rapidash, magmortar, jellicent, sneasel, and gurdurr.

Thwackey @ Eviolite / Terrain Extender
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- U-turn
- Grassy Glide
- Knock Off / Drain Punch
- Swords Dance

Aggron @ Choice Band
Ability: Rock Head
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Head Smash
- Toxic
- Superpower / Stealth Rock
- Heavy Slam

Crobat @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 248 HP / 52 Def / 208 Spe or 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Roost
- Super Fang / Defog
- Taunt / U-Turn
- Brave Bird

The main purpose of the core is to get Aggron in safely to put pressure against the opponent's team. Excelent dual-STAB in Rock and Steel as well as potential Fighting-type coverage makes the Iron Armour Pokémon one of the best physical attackers in the tier. Furthermore, having no drawback from spamming Head Smash thanks to Rock Head as well as being able to check some of the metagame's most defining pokémon in Crobat, Centiskorch, Sneasel, Silvally-Fairy and even Tauros help Aggron solidify its niche as a top tier threat. The moveset chosen allows Aggron to abuse its dual STAB as well as punish potential switch-ins such as Quagsire with Toxic or provide Stealth Rock utility if the team so needs.
Thwackey is the second part of the core, providing Grassy Surge support for Aggron, reducing its crippling quadruple Ground-type weakness. Moreover, a momentum-grabbing tool in U-Turn and priority to pick KOs on weakened pokemon from Aggron's hits in Grassy Glide make the monkey a valuable teammate. Knock Off is also a potential utility move to remove Leftovers or Rocky Helmet from bulkier walls to help Aggron do its job. Eviolite is the go-to item if you desire slightly more bulk but, if you'd prefer to go with full-on Grassy Terrain support to the team with other pokémon such as Sceptile and Swoobat as abusers, Terrain Extender is the preferred item.
Lastly, Crobat is the most splashable glue pokémon in the metagame, providing a fantastic defensive typing that enables it to check potent metagame threats such as Gallade, Centiskorch, Ribombee and more. The set chosen weakens bulky walls for Aggron via Super Fang and, with U-Turn, can form a momentum core with Thwackey. Or a more supportive approach can be taken with Crobat, opting for a Defog set if the team needs. The first given spread is my personal go-to and allows it to outpace Timid Ribombee, the fastest pokémon in the tier bar opposing Crobat and get slow pivots against said opposing bats, and the second allows for a better 1v1 matchup against opposing Crobats, although Aggron can certainly take care of that fairly easily.

Aggron Ninjask Whimsi
:ss/aggron: :ss/ninjask: :ss/whimsicott:
These three work well going ham on the standard defensive backbone of the tier: p2, gastro, regirock.
Aggron
@ Choice Band
Ability: Rock Head
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Head Smash
- Heavy Slam
- Earthquake
- Toxic / Stealth Rock

Ninjask
@ Heavy Duty Boots
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 184 HP / 252 Atk / 72 Spe
Adamant Nature
- U-turn
- Dual Wingbeat
- Swords Dance
- Protect

Whimsicott
@ Heavy Duty Boots
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpDef / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Knock Off
- Moonblast
- Defog/ Giga Drain
- U-turn

So the idea of this core is to break down defensive teams with the support Aggron and Whimsicott to facilitate a Ninjask Sweep. Aggron invites in Gastrodon, and it is free to throw off toxics on p2 and Regirock, as neither one wants to stay in ( be wary of psychos who click body press, get a gauge of your opponent before you start predicting a lot). Ninjask gives momentum into either Whimsicott or Aggron, as Jask lets Regirock come in for free. Whimsicott invites Porygon2 and beats down on Regirock and Gastro. As p2 comes in you can knock it’s eviolite off and then it is a weak little NFE rather than the menace it is at the moment. Also Offense is weak to this core bc Ninjask, but add another way to deal with Turtonator, as it obviously fucks this core.

This is a bulky core i make around a great physicall wall aka Tangela and a nice mix wall (spdef Regirock). Both are weak to hazzard and status. HDB altaria cover both weakness in Defog and Heal Bell.

Aurorus+Grassvally+Butterfree, because that mon needs love, with double T-Wave support
Aurorus Shiny sprite from Home
Silvally sprite from Home
Butterfree sprite from Home

This core revolves around veil from Aurorus to set up a Butterfree QD sweep later on. Crobat is by far the largest threat, so Grassvally packs t-wave to act as a lure for that annoying bat, severely hindering it, while also supporting Butterfree by baiting in and chipping/killing steels with a work up flame set. Aurorus also baits in steels to get t-waved for Butterfree and Grassvally later on. All in all, I think that this can work, even with such a terrible mon like Butterfree.

Aurorus @ Light Clay
Ability: Snow Warning
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk

Lycanroc @ Life Orb
Ability: Steadfast
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- Accelerock
- Swords Dance

Thwackey @ Terrain Extender
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature

Swoobat @ Grassy Seed
Ability: Simple
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Stored Power
- Giga Drain
- Heat Wave

Thwackey has Grassy Surge to set up Grassy Terrain. Thwackey has Grassy Glide for priority in Grassy Terrain. Drain Punch is for healing. Swords Dance to boost the Attack stat. U-Turn is to switch into Swoobat or Lycanroc. Swoobat, upon entering the battle field, will consume its Grassy Seed, doubling its defense stat due to Simple. Stored Power gets a base power of 140 with +2 defense from Grassy Seed, + 2 Special Attack and +2 Special Defense from Calm Mind. Swoobat has Giga Drain for healing which can make up for Swoobat not getting the little HP recovery from Grassy Terrain. Heat Wave is for steel types. Since Thwackey and Swoobat are both weak to Ice Types, this is where Lycanroc comes in. Lycanroc has a type advantage against Ice Types, and can revenge kill weakened mons the Thwackey and Swoobat have weakened with Accelrock. Close Combat is for steel types. Stone Edge is strong STAB. Swords Dance to boost its Attack on a mon it forces out.

This is one of my favorite cores to use right now in NU on my HO team. Of course there is a Sceptile on there as well.

:Thwackey: :Aurorus: :Drifblim:

Aurorus and Thwackey provide perfect set-up opportunity for Unburden Drifblim. Thwackey sets the Grassy Terrain and provides Drifblim with the +1 defense and Aurorus set ups rocks and hail to break potential sashes and behind a veil Driblim has an even easier time to set up.
Driblim's set can choose between either thunderbolt for coverage on normal types and to hit bulky waters (apart from Gastrodon) a bit harder or it can run substitute to prevent Driblim from getting Toxiced. The sub set is probably a little bit better but you really need to take care of normal types first or have something that sets T-spikes.

Thwackey @ Terrain Extender
