Project NU Next Best Thing [Week 35: Gastrodon]

Terrain Pulse

Diancie @ Life Orb
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 128 HP / 252 SpA / 128 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Terrain Pulse
- Moonblast / Power Gem / Mystical Fire / Psychic / Psyshock
- Moonblast / Power Gem / Mystical Fire / Psychic / Psyshock
- Calm Mind / an attack

People are able to find some use for semi/full Terrain teams. And as Diancie often lures Vaporeon in, both Grass & Electric terrains can pose trouble to Vaporeon. 128 Spe EVs creep Vaporeon, and the SpA is maximised. Another offensive item can be selected; if your terrain is grass then the terrain will somewhat mitigate the health drop. You also have the option to have CM to boost or have an AOA set to maximise Diancie's coverage.

252+ SpA Life Orb Diancie Terrain Pulse (100 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Vaporeon in Grassy Terrain: 351-413 (75.6 - 89%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery

It' is time for another Next Best Thing! We decided to choose Bronzong, one of the premier defensive backbones to a lot of teams at the moment. With a wide movepool, both utility-wise and offensively, it has a lot of room for creativity in its moveset!
Submissions for Bronzong will end on Friday, June 11th. Have fun!

Choice Band Bronzong
:ss/bronzong:
Bronzong @ Choice Band
Ability: Heatproof/Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
Brave Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Gyro Ball
- Earthquake
- Zen Headbutt
- Trick/Explosion

This set is meant to do big damage on unsuspecting mons such with its decent 89 attack stat. Some examples of good matchups are flygon(if levitate), Arcanine and Talonflame(if heatproof), Diancie, Sylveon, Dragalge etc. The set has Gyro Ball as its main steel type attack which can be really useful vs faster opponents because of Bronzong's pitiful speed. Earthquake for fire types and opposing steel types. Zen Headbutt for a secondary stab which can be useful against vileplume and just being a nice option in general if Gyro Ball doesn't do enough damage. The last move can be Trick to trick your band away which can also ruin walls like opposing Bronzong or Setup threats such as Blastoise or Explosion as a last option which can be really devastating.
252+ Atk Choice Band Bronzong Gyro Ball (130 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Flygon: 325-384 (107.9 - 127.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Bronzong Zen Headbutt vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Rotom-Mow: 157-186 (65.1 - 77.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Bronzong Explosion vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Starmie: 396-466 (151.7 - 178.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Bronzong Gyro Ball (95 BP) vs. 252 HP / 196+ Def Xatu: 189-223 (56.5 - 66.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Bronzong Gyro Ball (102 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Exploud: 309-364 (88.5 - 104.2%) -- 31.3% chance to OHKO

Misses having psychic or gyro in some cases, but can literally win in other cases on his own if he gets set up

Trick + Toxic Orb

Bronzong @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Levitate / Heatproof
EVs: 248 HP / 68 Def / 40 SpA / 152 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Trick
- Stealth Rock
- Body Press
- Psychic

Trick + Toxic Orb is really dope combo for dealing with mons such as Xatu (lowkey walls you!) or Vaporeon (uses you as a free wish unless you're idef bpress). Vaporeon is especially interesting because when it's tricked the orb, it cannot heal bell without being automatically poisoned again at the end of the turn. Spread is kinda wacky but its my favorite zonger spread atm. 40 spatk allows you to 2hko Vileplume after sludge recovery, and gives you a 50% chance to ohko Salazzle :). The rest is thrown in defense to ease the matchup vs shit like Glastrier and Tyrantrum. Either ability can be ran depending on the team, I prefer heatproof just as insurance vs Exploud / Salazzle and Heat Crash Copperajah
