[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
- Freeze-Dry allows Cryogonal to hit Ice-resistant Water-types such as Lanturn, Jellicent and Qwilfish for super effective damage.
- Hidden Power Fire targets Steel-types such as Alolan Sandslash and Ferroseed that would otherwise counter Cryogonal.
Set Details
========
- 252 EVs in Speed alongside a Timid Nature let Cryogonal outspeed Pokemon such as Oricorio and Swanna.
(252/252 spreads are obvious, no need for this)
- Use Metronome (Help) to
(the power boosts from metronome come in handy when defensive mons such as musharna and bronzor attempt to come in and wall u, as well as in late-game cleaning)
- Icium Z turns Freeze Dry into Subzero Slammer which knocks out Mudsdale after SR.
(also pompom after a calm mind boost and slight chip dmg)
- Never-Melt Ice is an alternative option that increases the power of Cryogonal's Freeze-Dry and allows it to 2HKO Lefties
(bulky) Lanturn.
(this is fine but see if u can find another good example or two)
Usage Tips
========
- Get Cryogonal in on weak special attacks that it resists like Hurricane, Scald and Blizzard from Pokemon like Oricorio, Qwilfish and Aurorus.
(aurorus is a shoddy mention since it often runs stone edge. u can mention jellicent instead and then make an additional sentence about how it can switch into choice-locked mons locked into unfavorable moves like aurorus locked into blizzard/dod locked into pursuit)
- Use Cryogonal’s almost unresisted Ice+Fire coverage offensively to dismantle common cores early- to mid-game.
(cryo really struggles breaking early game with defensive answers like regirock and gurdurr featured on almost every team, if anything it should attempt at cleaning late game. if ur using it early game it's to remove hazards or to generate momentum by forcing mons out and performing double switches out of cryo's counters)
* (talk about how it should ideally be reserved for late-game if it doesnt need to remove hazards early game since it's then when it's most effective at its job)
- Cryogonal should remove hazards on the Pokemon it forces out such as Qwilfish and Ferroseed.
(merge this with the first bullet. also ur not always forcing ferroseed out bc hp fire doesnt ko ferro while gyro ball does ko cryo, u can mention pompom/slash instead)
- Given the number of switches Cryogonal can force from the opponent, it finds ample opportunity to remove hazards.
(fluff)
- Use recover in order to remove hazards more consistently and better check Pokemon like Oricorio and Aurorus throughout the match.
(fluff)
this is a bit lackluster atm. i'm really looking tips that will help me utilize cryo to the fullest extent, like really approach this from the perspective of a tour player and try thinking of scenarios where u had to make smart plays with cryo to get the edge over your opponent.
Team Options
========
- Cryogonal fits well on an entry hazard stacking team given the number of switches it is able to force from the opponent
(i mean usual targets that it forces out like pompom dont rly care about spikes. this is moreso bc of its ability to compress spin with the ability to function as a decent late-game cleaner due to its excellent speed tier). Pair Cryogonal with Pokemon who can set entry hazards like Mudsdale and Qwilfish and other wallbreakers and cleaners that appreciate hazard stacking including Kangaskhan.
(and stoutland)
- Fighting-type checks like Jellicent, Qwilfish
(it's a pretty ass mediocre check, id replace this with victreebel) and Silvally-Fairy
(sd fairyvally specifically. ur not running cryo with defog vally on the same team and defog vally is a really meiocre fighting check anyway) are needed to deal with Fighting-types such as Primeape, Gurdurr and Hitmonchan who would otherwise counter Cryogonal.
* (give dedicated bullets to jellicent and victreebel, there's a lot of synergy both ways with jellicent even being able to act as a spinblocker for hazard stacking teams)
* (and lanturn too)
- Qwilfish is an excellent partner given that it resists Fire, Fight and Steel-types
(it takes a lot from slash and metang's eq) and can set up entry hazards to wear down bulky switch-ins to Cryogonal like Audino and Regirock. In return, Cryogonal is immune to Ground-type attacks aimed at Qwilfish.
(it doesnt help qwil by switching into muds (bc it doesnt) but by pressuring checks to qwil like pompom and lanturn. also qwilfish is presented way too positively when non-sd sets are honestly quite poor at pressuring stuff)
* (also give bullets to kanga and stout, both have good offensive synergy with cryo)
- Pair Cryogonal with physical walls like Gurdurr,
Regirock and Mudsdale (u already mention them as rockers) who can check wallbreakers that would otherwise take advantage of Cryogonal including Stoutland, Lycanroc and Aggron.
(just make this a bullet on gurdurr)
-
(move this up and include it with the rocks setters) Regirock in particular has great synergy with Cryogonal because it resists Normal-, Rock-,
Fire-Type Pokemon
(it's a really bad fire resist lol. simisear bops it with grass knot) and is overall an excellent physical wall that sponges physical attacks
(which mons?) aimed at Cryogonal. In return, Cryogonal can use its high natural special defence to sponge special moves aimed at Regirock like Scald from Jellicent and is immune to Ground-type attacks
(same comment as above, ur not freely switching into mudsdale anytime soon, u can *check* mudsdale and switch into special vic. also remember that u dont want to use offensive cryo as ur main special wall so a big big benefit of using regirock is that it alleviates cryo's pressure of handling pompom and sensu).
- Pair Cryogonal with Pokemon that appreciate Lanturn being weakened like Simisear and Oricorio so that it is able to facilitate their late game clean.
(this is a bit generic atm, u can expand on mons that have particularly good synergy with cryo or remove this altogether bc you'll prolly have a lot of bullets after this check lol)
