ORAS OU Offensive Mega Venusaur team

Hi there! This is a team I've been editing a lot over the past year, and I've gotten consistently higher with it on showdown than I have with any other team (or maybe I'm just finally learning lol). I made it from scratch with obvious set suggestions from smogon, though I've made a few adjustments as I saw fit.

gengar.gif

Gengar (M) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hex
- Shadow Ball
- Will-O-Wisp
- Sludge Wave

I was originally using a dragon dance/substitute Gyarados in this spot but I needed more of a special sweeper to get rid of the bulky pokemon out there. I've never missed a will-o-wisp with this guy which destroys most physical pokemon who like to switch into him--except Bisharp, who is still able to kill Gengar even with a burn. However, Gengar very reliable with the wisp/Hex combo. Hex also works well when slowbrow uses t-wave, which gives Hex even more use. I was thinking of switching out shadow-ball for something else like dazzling gleam but I already have a fairy move on Clefable so suggestions are welcome. Sludge wave is obvious stab that kills fairy types that don't have over the top special defence. I tried subbing in Alakazam for Gengar but he has less resistances than Gengar and I don't two psychic types on my team.

excadrill.gif

mouserat (Excadrill) (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rock Slide
- Rapid Spin

a trustworthy fairy destroyer with iron head, and great late-game sweeper with necessary earthquake for stab. As well, having him get rid of hazards with rapid spin is super helpful, though I only use that when absolutely necessary. Rock slide gets rid of talonflame, volcarona and since he has a choice-scarf, mega charizard Y is no problem at all. Mold breaker also allows e-quake to destroy those with levitate.

garchomp.gif

land shark (Garchomp) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw
- Rock Slide

Another great late-game sweeper. Once any pokemon immune to earthquake are gone, he can put a pretty big dent to any team with his stab move. If I get a chance to get in a swords dance, while being able to keep more than half hp, the game is basically over. I get rid of faster pokemon before I use this strategy. Dragon claw is great stab when I don't know who the opponent will switch into, and rock slide gets rid of pokemon like char-y, talonflame and the like. His rough skin/rocky helmet combo is great for switching into pokemon with low hp who are using physical moves against my excadrill or clefable. If Chompy cant kill a phys-pokemon in one hit, the rough skin gets the job done. Azumarill usually falls to this tactic. If you think Chompy is too similar to Excadrill, here is a battle to convince you of his power:

clefable.gif

mothra (Clefable) (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Moonblast
- Flamethrower
- Calm Mind
- Moonlight

MY QUEEN! she is excellent for baiting in scizor and ferrothorn and hitting them with that flamethrower! She always gets them in one hit, considering the life orb/magic gaurd and 252 SpA investment combo. Moonblast is neccessary stab, moonlight is recovery when I know someone will switch out, and her magic guard allows her to take poisoning and burns for other teammates without question, and entry hazards do nothing. I rarely use calm mind. It usually comes in when there are no other pokemon left to kill clefable, but I think I want to switch it out for something else. However, it provides for another way to put dents into a team that doesn't resist fire or fairy. But being out-sped by most things doesn't help. T-Wave isn't much help when I have Slowbro to do that already.

slowbro.gif

Slowbro (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 232 Def / 24 SpD
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Slack Off
- Thunder Wave
- Psyshock

Slowbro is great for taking psychic moves for my mega Venu. His defensive investment allows him to pair up with Clefable, and thunder-wave is wonderful for weakening oppenents for Garchomp, mega Venu. And for Gengar, t-wave allows Hex to do hefty damage. Slack Off is good for fast recovery without switching out, and the regenerator ability makes toxic a problem of the past. Scald works well with Hex again if I get a burn, and it gets rid of physical threats who don't have Sw-Dance. It's also a great stab and being frozen won't affect my slowbro anymore either. Psyshock is also great stab, and it allows me to dent bulky special defensive pokemon who like to switch into Slowbro. However, this pokemon doesn't get in a lot of damage, which is why I thought he worked well with Gengar's good SpA. He's more of support than an actual pokemon capable of doing hefty damage. Now if only his SpD was better...

venusaur-mega.gif

vegetables (Venusaur) (M) @ Venusaurite
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 108 HP / 252 SpA / 148 SpD
Calm Nature
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Synthesis

Quite possibly my favorite mega. Not only is he bulky, but his offence is great too. Giga drain is great stab that gives Venu some recovery, while synthesis is even better for when i know someone will switch out. Sludge bomb is a fairy killer and powerful stab. Other mega Venu's and grass types fall to Sludge Bomb as well. And steel types are no problem with Venu's HP fire! I use Venu also to switch into ferrothorn and hit him with that HP fire, as well, scizor is 2HKO'ed with it. Venu can usually survive 2 hits from scizor if there's no crit. I just wish Venu had a more diverse movepool!

The only problem this team faces is from Mega Gardevoir (though I've been able to defeat these teams) and Bisharp. I've been swept by a Swords Dance Bisharp more than once and even a will-o-wisp from Gengar is unable to stop him. Landorus-T is super annoying too. U-turn easily gets slowbro but a -1 iron head from excadrill is usually a 3HKO. Any move substitutions are very welcome, and if you think there are better pokemon for the job, let me know! Thanks in advance.

Hey there Hadman ! Unique team you have here, I have a few changes that I suggest:
At a first glance, I notice that you don't run stealth rocks, which kd a must for every team. I would go Stealth Rock>Rock Slide, Since Rock Slide really does nothing. Also since you are weak to Bisharp and already run Rocky Helmet, I would change the EV spread so that its 252 HP 160 Def 96 Speed Impish Nature. This spread out speeds Jolly Bisharp, while being able to take a Sucker Punch, and kill it with Earthquake. Since this is Tank Chomp, Dragon Tail> Dragon Claw is more beneficial, since you are able to force Pokemon out while Hazards are up. Swords Dance is OK, but you could run Fire Blast>Swords Dance to hit bulky steels, such as Ferrothorn, Mega Scizor, and Skarmory.

On Clefable, I would change the spread to 252 HP 176 Def 80 SPD Bold Nature. This is so that you are able to avoid 2HKO'S from threats like thundurus, while still having the bulk to tank things like Earthquakes from Scarf Landorus T, and return from Mega Lop. Also I would go Leftovers>Life orb, so that you have a reasonable state of slow recovery. Also Softboiled>Moonlight since it has more PP.

On Excadrill, I would go a Jolly Nature>Adamant Nature, so that you are able to take full advantage of the choice scarf's speed boost, and so you don't get outsped by things like, Scarf Tran.

land shark (Garchomp) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Hp / 160 Def / 96 Spe
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Dragon Tail
- Fire Blast

mothra (Clefable) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 176 Def / 80 SpD
Bold Nature
- Moonblast
- Flamethrower
- Calm Mind
- Moonlight

mouserat (Excadrill) (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 HP
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rock Slide
- Rapid Spin

GL and Hope this Helped!

hi there, nice team.

so honestly this is far from offense. this looks more like a fat balance build and so i'm going to rate accordingly.

on clefable you can run a far superior spread of 252 HP / 172 Def / 84 SpD > 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 SpD. cm clefable wants more bulk to take on pokemon like lopunny, latios, kyurem b, and weavile. you can also then run Leftovers > Life Orb, which helps you avoid 2hkos from the above pokemon. magic guard clefable has no reason to run moonlight because of its access to softboiled, so run Softboiled > Moonlight. the nature can stay the same.

up next is garchomp. you garchomp set is kind of weird; i don't really understand helmet but offensive sd. since you need a more reliable switchin to bisharp and excadrill, i think you should run Hippowdon > Garchomp. the set will be listed below.

so you really need something to pressure bulky waters like slowbro, suicune, and also offensive ones like manaphy. because of this i recommend Serperior > Mega Venusaur. it also significantly improves your offense matchup, letting you take on mons like diancie much better.

ok so next i don't really see what gengar is doing here. instead of it try a Skarmory > Gengar. you need a defog user since exca is getting removed and it helps you a lot more vs gardevoir and zam, as well as being able to whirlwind out opposing clefable and suicune that want to set up. while spikes would be nice, defog is imperative on a balance team so you don't get smashed by opposing spikes stack + wallbreakers.

since you have a free mega slot, you can try Mega Slowbro > Leftovers Slowbro. since you need something that can both setup + win and win calm mind wars with opposing clefable, you can run Calm Mind > Thunder Wave. you still need speed control though, so you can go Thunder Wave > Flamethrower on clefable.

excadrill stacks a lot of problems with keldeo and rain while also being a bit of an unreliable spinner. because this and your need for a more solid switchin to said keldeo as well as serperior, you can try AV Tornadus-T > Excadrill. it also grabs a bit of momentum with uturn, which is nice to have on a playstyle often lacking in momentum.

i think that's all, i'll post an importable of the finished team below. enjoy! btw, here's a quick summary of the changes.

Ehy Man :)
the team is weak at charizard X and Y, also Tornadus-T and Sand Team are annoyng for your team. My suggest is to try Hippodown>Garchomp. Hippodown give you a good check for Charizard X and Bisharp that destroy your team also help vs Manectric that is annoyng
Hippowdon @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 144 Def / 112 SpD
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Slack Off
- Stone Edge
The Team is a really weak at Charizard y that destroy your team, i think that CM Latios>Gengar is good option for your team because give you a really wincon and help vs Stall that are really annoyng for your team.
Latios @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Calm Mind
- Roost

Slowbro is useless in this team, because you have Hippodown, i think that Raikou is a good option for your team, because help you vs tornadus and manaphy that are annoyng, Volt swich give you a good momentum.
Raikou @ Assault Vest
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power Ice
- Shadow Ball
Change the set on Excadrill in Air Ballon Sand rush Sand Rush Excadrill is a really better for your team, because give you a really good revegekiller and help vs more weakness such a Charizard x and fairy like Gardevoir, Diancie and Mega altaria. Air Ballon help you vs other Sand team that are annoyng for your team, a good option is to try Sword Dance>Rock Slide because you don't have problem vs fly (ty raikou and hippo <3) and sword dance give you a really good wincon.
Excadrill @ Air Ballon
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rock Slide/Sword dance
- Rapid Spin
Change the spread on Clefable in 252 HP / 172 Def / 84 SpD Calm Nature with Leftovers (That give you a passive recovery) because you don't need to Life Orb clefable in this team, SpD Clefable help you Kyurem (The spread is for evoids the 2HKO from Life Orb Kyurem) and help vs Diancie (The spread Evoids the 2HKO). Ah and Magic Bouce+Moonlight is useless because Clefable Magic Guard have Soft-Boiled 0_0
Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 172 Def / 84 SpD
Calm Nature
- Calm Mind
- Moonblast
- Soft-Boiled
- Flamethower
Why this spread on Venusaur? Change the spread in 232 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 20 Spe and the Nature in Modest. 20 Speed EVs are used to outpace Adamant maximum Speed Azumarill. Maximum EVs are used in Special Attack to allow Mega Venusaur to max power. The rest of the EVs are put in HP so that Mega Venusaur can take hits as well.
Venusaur @ Venusaurite
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 232 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 20 Spe
Modest Nature
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Hidden Power Fire
- Synthesis
