ORAS OU Offensive Mew!?

Hellllllo everyone! This is my second RMT and I've been around the competitive OU scene for a while. I've gotten bored of all my teams and one day I came across Mew. I have only ever used a defensive wisp Mew before and I got to thinking of building an offensive one with a regular team around him. Base 100 stats all around and can learn all TMs, why wouldn't he be viable? Anyways, lets get to the team.

THE TEAM

Mew @ Expert Belt

Ability: Synchronize

EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

Modest Nature

- Aura Sphere

- Ice Beam

- Fire Blast

- Psychic

The idea behind Mew was of course to give it a bunch of coverage moves but ones that specifically check its counters. Aura Sphere is pretty crucial, OHKOs Weavile and Bisharp on the switch and 2 hits any variation of Tyranitar. Ice Beam for those pesky dragons and Landos. Fire Blast to OHKO Scizor and hit anything weak to fire as hard as possible. Psychic for needed STAB and for fighting types of course. I went with the Modest nature because there isn't much Mew is out speeding in the meta than he wouldn't with a Timid nature. Also, he needs max power. Expert belt because, well, he's usually hitting things for super effective damage.

Clefable @ Leftovers

Ability: Unaware

EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD

Bold Nature

- Moonblast

- Heal Bell

- Wish

- Protect

I decided to go with Unaware Clef because it just does not care about any pokemon deciding to try and sweep my team. Heal Bell because status is freaking annoying. Moonblast is mandatory. Wish to wish pass to my pivots or offensive mons of course and protect to stall out or wish myself back up to high health. Clefable is one of the best supportive mons in OU and I felt Mew and Scarf Hoopa-U needed it.

Charizard-Mega-X @ Charizardite X

Ability: Blaze

EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

Adamant Nature

- Dragon Dance

- Dragon Claw

- Flare Blitz

- Roost

Honestly, I just looked at the list of megas in OU and decided to go with Zard X. No strategic thought to it just went with this monster because one D Dance up and he can take out most of the meta. Adament nature because with one D Dance up he's out speeding all of the unboosted mons in OU. I'm thinking I could go Earthquake here instead of Roost? Roost has helped me in some timely situations though.

RotomWash.jpg

Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers

Ability: Levitate

EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spe

Bold Nature

- Volt Switch

- Hydro Pump

- Will-O-Wisp

- Pain Split

Rotom-Wash is one of my favorite mons to use in OU. The thing just takes hits and wears down most things. I also needed a check to Talonflame and did not want to use Tankchomp. Just the standard lefties smogon set here. Almost decided to run toxic over will-o because I had trouble with some stally mons. Then I just came to the realization that you can't check EVERYTHING.

Hoopa-Unbound @ Choice Scarf

Ability: Magician

EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe

Hasty Nature

- Hyperspace Fury

- Psychic

- Energy Ball

- Drain Punch

So, at this point the team had a limited amount of power with two support mons. And I decided that mixed scarfed Hoopa-U is the best choice here. He's basically the garbage man. Comes in and just. hits. everything. I originally had Gunk Shot over Energy Ball, but after several games the most trouble I was having was against Swampert and Quagsire. Which made me mad to the highest extent. So I thought, Scizor can check fairies as it is and I desperately need a grass type move. Energy ball OHKOs Quagsire and Swampert and guarenteed 2 hit KOs Rotom-W. Drain punch for oncoming Weaviles, Bisharps, and Tyranitars of course. And dual STAB to round it out.

Scizor @ Life Orb

Ability: Technician

EVs: 248 HP / 60 Def / 200 SpD

Impish Nature

- Roost

- Defog

- Bullet Punch

- U-turn

So, I needed a defogger and with the couple of Fire resistances I have I thought I could fit scizor in just nicely. Bullet Punch because STAB Technician priority is a no brainer, U-Turn to complete a slow VoltTurn combo with Rotom-W, Roost for longevity. Decided to go with a more bulky set because he really isn't here to hit anything hard that he couldn't with a more offensive set.

Let me know what y'all think! I decided to mix it up with this team, wanted to use offensive Mew and let me tell ya, there is nothing more satisfying than Aura sphere-ing an incoming Dark type. Thanks for reading! :)

Hey there,
Nice Team! I like the concept of offensive mew, but I think with a few changes your team can work even better!

151.png
: I like Psyshock > Psychic here. This way you can hit special walls harder, which is really the only utility the psychic coverage gives outside of the STAB. The coverage moves are generally the most important part of offensive mew's set so that it can get surprise kills with type effectiveness and expert belt. I would also consider Flamethrower > Fire Blast as your most common targets like Scizor and Ferrothorn get roasted anyway and it would suck to miss.

212.png
: I would use Leftover > Life Orb. Considering your set has a heavily defensive nature Life Orb doesn't make too much sense, and leftovers provides better longevity so scizor can keep defogging for zard and generating momentum with U-Turn.

006-mx.png
: I prefer a spread of 32 HP / 252 Atk / 224 Spe because you don't need the extra speed while the little extra bulk helps you set up better. TBH its not a huge change tho so if you like the extra speed your current spread is fine.

At this point i like Mew + Zard x + Scizor + Rotom-Wash. However, I don't really see what Clef + Hoopa is doing. Hoopa is scarf to fill in your revenge killer role, but this makes you lose out on a wallbreaker which would be really useful. I don't see much good use of clef as you don't need an unaware wall to stop setup sweepers like manaphy since your team isn't that fat and passive, and it fails to stop major threats to your team like bisharp. Hence, I suggest the following changes.

036.png
->
286.png
: Breloom is great to check stuff like bisharp, which can blow through your team as it is rn. From experience it fits really well with zardx/scizor/rotom-w since the voltturn helps it get off spores and you also get very solid type synergy. I suggest a SD Life Orb set to provide a solid win condition as well, and I don't find Rock Tomb to be as good as Swords Dance generally.

720-u.png
: Trick > Energy Ball. With Breloom, the Quagsire and Swampert you listed as issues are no longer problematic at all. Trick is amazing to cripple walls and is also useful if you want to be able to switch up moves or aid set-up for Zard-X or Breloom.

I hope these changes work out, let me know how it goes! The other thing I would consider is adding a Stealth Rocks user, but I feel this would require some role compression on your team that would change it considerably. These changes should help regardless of the fact that they don't add a SR user to your team, which is very important most of the time. ^_^

Hello there! Thanks for the rate. The idea of Life Orb support Scizor is that bullet bunch packs more of a punch against Fairies. It is needs to at least 2 hit KO Clef. And I'll try replacing Clef with Breloom, although I feel I lose the much needed cleric and I get another weakness to Talonflame. Psyshock over Psychich is a given I should've known. Again thanks!

If you need to be stronger against fairies, then you need to run more offensive investment on scizor. For example,
88+ Atk Technician Scizor Bullet Punch vs. 252 HP / 172 Def Clefable: 204-240 (51.7 - 60.9%) -- 92.6% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery. You might also want to consider running Swords Dance somewhere on the set. You might also have to do some role compression and add Stealth Rocks + Rapid Spin / Defog (like excadrill or empoleon, which happen to be not super good with scizor) to fit SD on there. Also, Clef is much worse as a talonflame weakness because it also offers talonflame basically free set up and can only hope to just try to pp stall it while talonflame pretty much is fine vs it, whereas breloom can at least threaten to spore it. You have a Rotom-Wash anyway so talonflame shouldn't be too troublesome, although you are reliant on it to handle tflame regardless.
