Official NBA 16-17' Season Thread

... wha... i swear nba.com wasn't showing one at the date of that post.

edit: ohhh, i was looking at career numbers. well then...

i doubt he maintains this all the way to the end though. :P

i know everybody drinking westbrook koolaid but

i stick by my harden > westbrook mvp rating

I watched that video when it came out too, I have to say I agree.

Also, not that he's close to being the best player in the NBA (plus he's really inconsistent), but is there any current player capable of reaching the same heights as Klay Thompson when he's red hot? I honestly don't think so.

I'm not a fan of either but I think Russ is better. James Harden just shoots so many free throws and all and it gets annoying and they both can pass but Russ is doing this without kd while harden got bonuses so yeah even though I don't like neither Russ over harden for me.

True, but PER doesn't take account of usage.

Westbrook significantly has a higher usage rating than pretty much most of the NBA, yet Harden's assists to turnover ratio, true shooting, scoring, etc are either equal or better.

If Harden scores and creates at a better rate while having the ball less, he is more efficient; even if Westbrook gives you a raw number of more positive "outcomes".

Westbrook and Harden are both great. No need to argue.
With that being said though, is no one going to talk about Eric Gordon? The dude's helped the Rockets a lot and D'Antoni "freed" him from NOLA and let him be more than purely a "catch and shoot" player.
He and Harden have hit more combined 3 pointers this season than Steph and Klay :^)

Yup. Honestly, the team is catered to his strengths. He's more of a bench player.

As a long-suffering Raptors fan, it's nice to finally say that the team I'm watching is my favourite iteration in franchise history (toppling the Carter/McGrady/Bogues edition of 1999), the Raptors are definitively good and can give anyone a run for their money, but I can't shake the feeling that they are one superstar short of making a serious title run. Their depth is amazing (the fact that Norman Powell is a luxury player is a glorious thing), they have championship pieces (the Lowry and DeRozan duo are consistently amazing), but as we saw in the playoffs last year, LeBron remains LeBron.

I'm still hoping they can coax Andrew Wiggins to come home when the time comes (what is that, 2021??), but by then their core will be long gone. Historically, Toronto have been unable to lure the big names, but can their recent success alter the course of history?

I would absolutely love a Bosh return, we could definitely use help at the 4. Sadly, I think he's done. I almost hope he's done, because I fear for his safety if he tries to make a comeback.
