Hi All!

With FRLG being released tomorrow to a whole new wave of players - I thought it best to post up an individual SQSA thread for FRLG!

Please ask any weird question that pops up during your playthrough! Don't forget you can also join the OI discord to discuss the games and ask questions there too!

Some quick notes:

No we don't know when Home compatibility is happening.

There is no National Dex until the Post Game - This means that certain Pokémon (Notably Golbat) will not evolve for any reason. Also you cannot get Espeon/Umbreon either (as there is no clock). Likewise, breeding is not available until the post game.

Please be aware of the Roar Glitch - When selecting your starter, you also select a Legendary Beast to spawn in your game. If you pick Bulbasaur (Entei) or Squirtle (Raikou) please be aware of this glitch. Save your Master Ball for this interaction. If either of these Pokémon use Roar in their battle with you, they vanish. And I don't mean they run away, they are literally unable to be encountered ever again. They also have trash IVs but thats besides the point.

So apprently the Roar Glitch has been patched out. However, the beasts still have trash tier IVs so ymmv

The Guards need Tea - Entering Saffron City has been changed in FRLG. There is a lady in the Celadon Condominiums (west of the Pokémon Centre and where GameFreak are) who gives you Tea. It is this the guards around Saffron want. They won't accept anything else.

I can't think of any other immediate gotchas off the top of my head, but anything interesting I'll add up here!

I'm sure someone's going to want to ask about the National Dex or why they can't get into Cerulean Cave, so I'll answer that ahead of time.

You can get the National Dex from Professor Oak after catching 60 Pokemon. After getting the National Dex, there's a post game plot in the Sevii Islands and completing it lets you get into Cerulean Cave. (It also makes the Elite Four and Champion start using their rematch teams, which includes Gen 2 Pokemon.)

If anyone decides to run a Golbat in this game and finds the game isn’t letting you evolve it into Crobat, that’s not an error. It’s a really dumb feature of this game and only this game that locks out the evolutions of Kanto Pokémon into non-Kanto Pokémon until the National PokéDex has been obtained and you’ve done additional story content in the Sevii Islands in the postgame. Just a heads-up for anyone who isn’t aware of this.

Also, save your Master Ball unless you absolutely have to use it for something else. You can unlock a roaming Raikou, Entei, or Suicune in the postgame, only one of them and it’s starter choice dependent similar to the Legendary Birds in X & Y. The problem is, Raikou and Entei’s Roar is glitched in these games- if it uses Roar to flee from battle, they will instead be permanently erased from your save file.
both of these things are mentioned in the first post

If you ever need HELP in a given situation, you can press the L or R button to open the HELP menu for contextual advice like type matchups or how to leave your house, or ask the TEACHY TV for assistance.

It’s probably far too early for there to already be confirmation for something like this but do we have any information on if the events are in this version like they did for Celebi on the 3DS?

I updated the pages on my site to refer to Ho-Oh, Lugia, and Deoxys getting added to the re-release. Need to do a more thorough rework of the Pokedex/min max level/locations pages though since it's kind of inconsistent how I handle event stuff.

based on social media posts I've seen since the port release, there's a large amount of players who had no idea what poison overworld damage was and were reacting to it as if their game glitched out.

I think technically taking damage in the overworld/out of battle from poison has been removed from the games for longer than it was in them, since gen 5 came out nearly 16 years ago.
