Mega Metagross displays historical dominance in the ORAS OU metagame thanks to its powerful Attack stat, high Speed tier, and amazing coverage moves, in addition to a fantastic ability in Tough Claws. It is also able to switch into a plethora of threats due to its fantastic bulk and typing. Meteor Mash is a strong STAB move that threatens top-tier threats such as Clefable, Tyranitar, and Tornadus-T. Hammer Arm is a fantastic coverage move that hits Excadrill, Ferrothorn, Magnezone, and Heatran. Zen Headbutt allows Mega Metagross to threaten Keldeo and hit Rotom-W hard upon switch in. Ice Punch and Thunder Punch are able to threaten Gliscor, Garchomp, Slowbro, and Skarmory upon switch-in. Bullet Punch allows Mega Metagross to dispose of Weavile and pick off weakened foes. Pursuit allows Mega Metagross to trap Pokemon such as Latias; therefore, Keldeo is a fantastic partner, as it appreciates Latias being removed. Magnezone is able to trap Pokemon such as Mega Scizor, Skarmory, and Ferrothorn which Metagross can find itself struggling versus. Rotom-W and Tornadus-T are fantastic teammates who are able to bring in Mega Metagross safely via VoltTurn, in addition to covering Mega Metagross's Ground-type weakness.
