Literally doesn't give a shit about any of Sceptile's moves, and you threaten to KO back with Brave Bird. It dies to a +2 Outrage though, but that's not on the post so I assume that's not relevant. In fact, even physically defensive Golbat with just a little special defense investment (36) can survive a 2HKO from DPulse after rocks 100% of the time.

252 SpA Mega Sceptile Dragon Pulse vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Eviolite Golbat: 87-103 (24.6 - 29.1%) -- 99.9% chance to 4HKO

Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Defog
- Heal Bell
- Roost
- Dazzling Gleam
(seismic toss is an option but i like d.gleam for panda)

Togetic (specially defensive or otherwise; this set is physically defensive) is a full-stop to all Mega Sceptile sets period. It absolutely can't touch it while Togetic can use Defog, Heal Bell, Roost to recover HP or hit Sceptile hard with Dazzling Gleam. I don't think I even need to provide any calcs here.

4. Only post sets viable in RU. Niche Pokemon such as Roselia or Probopass are totally acceptable, but bottom-of-the-barrel stuff like Electivire and Shedinja aren't. The viability ranking thread is your best friend, so if something isn't ranked there, 95% of the time it's not worth posting here.

I think Marill shouldn't be considered because of this.

Cresselia can switch into any move and do whatever the hell it wants because it is getting, not factoring in critical hits, only like 4HKO with SR. You lose 12.5 from SR and you lose 18% if max rolls after Leftover from Dragon Pulse. That means after three turns (18*3+12.5) you are in Draco Meteor range. That gives you plenty of time to heal or paralyze or kill. Or all three if you want.

Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 36 Atk / 204 SpA / 16 SpD
Quiet Nature
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Knock Off
- Earthquake

pretty simple here. the 16 spdef EVS here mean that Tangrowth will never be 2hKOd by Dragon Pulse, 204 spa means that Tangrowth will always kill with HP ice, 252 HP is for bulk, and the rest is just put into physical attack for knock off and EQ. giga drain is stab, HP ice nails sceptile, knock off because knock off, and EQ for steel types.

204+ SpA Tangrowth Hidden Power Ice vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Sceptile: 284-336 (101 - 119.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Aromatisse @ Leftovers
Ability: Aroma Veil
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Moonblast
- Wish
- Protect
- Aromatherapy

Aromatisse is a very nice check to mega sceptile as it resists sceptile's STAB dragon pulse and STAB grass don't do much as aromatisse's special defense is very cool. Even if SR is up giga drain + leaf storm won't kill aromatisse (even with max rolls). Once sceptile uses leaf storm resulting in sp atk drop, aromatisse can just restore its health using protect + wish and can 2hko sceptile with moonblast.

252 SpA Sceptile Giga Drain vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Aromatisse: 103-123 (25.3 - 30.2%) -- 96.4% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Too bad sceptile's sp atk will drop harshly.

4 SpA Aromatisse Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Sceptile: 234-276 (83.2 - 98.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

a bit disappointed because there are still a lot of checks/counters that no one submitted this week. fletchinder, amoonguss, registeel (a bit shaky but still), even meloetta are all possible checks/counters that could have been posted.

anyway it's friday and it's up!

Checks: Escavalier (boltsandbombers) | Whimsicott (galbia) | Aromatisse (Level 56)
Counters: Golbat (Kevun) | Togetic (Arikado) | Bronzong (Anty :3)

the evs and nature could probably be better but I dont care enough to make a specific spread. sets up on cress then kills everything on stall. it also sets up on most stall mons as well. unless you have taunt wisp jellicent or a fire type to ohko it it's kinda hard to beat.

Chatot @ Leftovers
Ability: Keen Eye
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Chatter
- Nasty Plot
- Boomburst
- Encore

So on my RU Conquest team it really struggled with SubCM Cress, and most ppl with it realize this and tried to get a sub up as soon as possible. Switching into Chatot and hitting Encore locks them into one of its support moves and forces them to either switch or let you setup. They can't even continue to sub down because you have sound based moves to hit around the sub as well as chatter to be a right fucker.

Encore is also amazing for locking things like Rhyperior or Gligar into Earthquake or Stealth Rock and forcing switches, a fantastic move on Chatot that really makes this Pokemon shine in RU, ofc you have to play amazing to get the "sik predikts".

Yet another mon thats checked by countless Steel-types, lol. Anyways, Doublade is a great answer to Cress as it is can sponge up its attacks and start setting up swords dance boosts in its face.

+6 0 SpA Cresselia Moonblast vs. 212 HP / 0 SpD Eviolite Doublade: 126-148 (40.3 - 47.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Durant as a check
632.gif

Durant @ Life Orb
Ability: Hustle
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Hone Claws
- Iron Head
- Crunch
- Superpower
This isnt a great switch in as it is prone to being worn down due to lack of priority, however, like most steel types, it can easily take either one of Cresselias moves:
0 SpA Cresselia Psyshock vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Durant: 30-36 (11.6 - 14%) -- possible 8HKO
0 SpA Cresselia Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Durant: 48-57 (18.6 - 22.1%) -- possible 5HKO
Durant can then boost three times and OHKO Cresselia with Life Orb boosted crunch
+3 252 Atk Life Orb Hustle Durant Crunch vs. 252 HP / 132+ Def Cresselia: 523-616 (117.7 - 138.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
The worst cress can do with you in thos 3 turns is hit you with 3 moonblasts, doing 66.3% max damage, and after life orb recoil, you will still have 3 hits in it and the opponent is stuck against a +3 Durant which can screw them over. To be healthier Durant could boost twice, but then it is a roll whether or not it OHKOs:
+2 252 Atk Life Orb Hustle Durant Crunch vs. 252 HP / 132+ Def Cresselia: 419-494 (94.3 - 111.2%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO
Even if you get a low roll, you will still beat it one on one (and cresselia might not be at full if it has substituted already). X-scissor is an option to always get the ohko at +2 without life orb, but i feel it is still inferior, as it does not miss much that iron head hits, and the other two coverage moves are vital for hitting steels and ghosts.

Curse Registeel

Registeel @ Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Curse
- Rest
- Iron Head
- Sleep Talk

Since Curse Registeel has no problem with anything Cresselia does or could do, you can switch in without fear, and set up while taking any attack with ease, even if Cresselia somehow got an extra setup turn:

+2 0 SpA Cresselia Psyshock vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Registeel: 48-57 (13.1 - 15.6%) -- Max roll, 9% after leftovers. Lol

Even once Cresselia gets max boosts, things are still looking pretty grim:

+6 0 SpA Cresselia Psyshock vs. +6 252 HP / 4 Def Registeel: 24-29 (6.5 - 7.9%) (~1% after leftovers??)

+6 0 SpA Cresselia Moonblast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Registeel: 58-68 (15.9 - 18.6%) (12% max after leftovers, haha)

Cresselia's only hope, then, must lie in critical hits?

+6 0 SpA Cresselia Psyshock vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Registeel on a critical hit: 143-168 (39.2 - 46.1%)

+6 0 SpA Cresselia Moonblast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Registeel on a critical hit: 87-102 (23.9 - 28%)

Cresselia essentially needs 3 consecutive critical hits with Psyshock, and considering that does ~1% to Registeel normally, it's a pretty bad idea to even use it in most circumstances.

Meanwhile, at the hall of Regi:

+6 0 Atk Registeel Iron Head vs. 252 HP / 132+ Def Cresselia: 189-223 (42.5 - 50.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Fine, so you don't end it right off the bat. On the other hand, Moonlight has a pretty slim 8 PP, and if Cresselia even has it (i'm aware it's first-slashed), then it lacks Psyshock, meaning it can't beat you even with perfect luck!

Now, this is the unfortunate part, as Cresselia will likely PP stall like crazy with Substitute and Moonlight. However, you can very easily afford to wait it out-Rest without moving alone gives you an effective 48 PP, and Curse tacks on another 32, which means you can take it down with ample PP to spare-while at full health, no less!

Ultimately, the method of winning is a little unfortunate. However, unlike other counters such as Doublade and Drapion, Registeel can't be worn down by attacks or Stealth Rock (leftovers+resistance means no amount of double switches will wear it down, and with its bulk and Rest, neither will attacks), and it is very, very difficult to revenge kill once it's beaten Cresselia, while it can likely sweep the opposing team fairly easily. As such, I find it to be the second best counter currently listed, while also being very viable. (escavalier is the first, Dx.)

Meloetta @ Leftovers / Colbur Berry
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Perish Song
- Heal Bell
- Knock Off
- U-turn / Toxic

So there it is, one of the most famous answer to slow set up stallbreakers during middle-XY meta. Specially Defensive meloetta, is just basically a *cockblock* to all Calm Minders in the entire tier/(game) thanks to its acess to a great move, Perish Song paired with a very very high Special Defense stat and a resistance to Psyshock. SubCM Cresselia is actually the target for what this set's efficacity is at its highest point, as Cresselia has p. low offensive stats which prevents it from doing consistent damages to Meloetta after 1 or 2 Calm Minds. (Moonblast can't even 3HKO at +6). Heal Bell gives Meloetta an other way to support its teammates as well as winning itself 1v1 vs. some opposing stallers, while Knock Off can cripple opponent's bulk, power or staying power on removing common Assault Vests, Eviolites, Life Orbs and leftovers. U-turn is here to gain momentum on predicted switches if the Perish Song is up as well as avoiding trappers. If you're using the Colbur Berry then just run Toxic.

0 SpA Cresselia Moonblast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Meloetta: 34-40 (8.4 - 9.9%) -- possibly the worst move ever
+1 0 SpA Cresselia Moonblast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Meloetta: 50-59 (12.3 - 14.6%) -- possibly the worst move ever
+6 0 SpA Cresselia Moonblast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Meloetta: 130-154 (32.1 - 38.1%) -- 0.9% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 248 HP / 172 SpD / 88 Spe
Careful Nautre
- Brave Bird

- Defog

When are people going to realize how good this thing is LOL. I swear, this checks everything. If you look at literally every other Cresselia stop (Escavalier, Doublade, Dark-types, etc.), they all have no reliable recovery themselves. But not Golbat, meaning it can reliably take it on throughout the entire match, unless if you fuck up really bad somehow. Also, putting this team means you now have a reliable way to deal with Mega Sceptile, SERPERIOR, Pangoro, Pidgeot, etc etc. so you don't have to run like 3 other mons to deal with them. You don't even have to worry about dedicating another slot to hazard removal (!). You don't even need specially defensive to counter Cresselia, since you take weak as shit Moonblasts like nothing even with phys def, but sp def is prolly better right now all around, so yeah, its up to you. You also eat up piss weak Psyshocks all day from Cresselia thinking they can get a jump on you. You prolly want to run a little more speed to outspeed it in case it runs shock, but thats almost never run anyways. One toxic, and Cress is done. Good mon imo.

+6 0 SpA Cresselia Moonblast vs. 248 HP / 172+ SpD Eviolite Golbat: 67-79 (18.9 - 22.3%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Stealth Rock (Nice +6)

Steelix @ Steelixite
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Def
Adamant Nature
- Heavy Slam
- Earthquake
- Toxic
- Roar / Taunt

Mega Steelix is a very fun Mega Evolution that serves the utility as being insanely bulky, having a decent typing, and being extremely powerful with its Heavy Slam, which almost always equal 120 damage. Personally, I chose Mega Steelix because it serves utility outside of just walling Cresselia, and can hurt a lot of other things. This is a full counter to Cresselia, as Moonblast will not always 3HKO, Psyshock will not always 5HKO, and Psychic has hardly any chance to 2HKO Steelix, all at +3. Heavy Slam is enough to break its Substitute, at which point it can Toxic if it would like or spam Heavy Slam. Roar forces it out, Taunt shuts it down. Perfect counter.

Drapion (counter)

Drapion @ Black Sludge
Ability: Battle Armor
EVs: 160 HP / 94 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Knock Off
- Aqua Tail

Bulky swords dance Drapion is a great counter to cressilia. Thanks to its typing, cressilia's STAB psyshock is immune on drapion which gives drapion the upper hand vs cressilia. With these evs and moveset drapions beats cressilia easily.

0 SpA Cresselia Moonblast vs. 160 HP / 0 SpD Drapion: 68-81 (21.1 - 25.2%) -- possible 5HKO after Black Sludge recovery

+1 0 SpA Cresselia Moonblast vs. 160 HP / 0 SpD Drapion: 102-121 (31.7 - 37.6%) -- 0.1% chance to 3HKO after Black Sludge recovery

+2 94 Atk Drapion Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 134+ Def Cresselia: 294-348 (66.2 - 78.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

After leftovers are knocked off,

+2 94 Atk Drapion Knock Off vs. 252 HP / 134+ Def Cresselia: 198-234 (44.5 - 52.7%) -- 21.1% chance to 2HKO

Skuntank @ Black Sludge/Black Glasses
Ability: Aftermath
EVs: 16 HP / 228 Atk / 252 SpD / 12 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Defog
- Sucker Punch
- Poison Jab
- Taunt / Punishment

If no one has noticed recently, I've fallen in love with Skuntank. It's such a useful mon, able to Defog as well as check a lot of the scariest RU mons like Sceptile, Serperior and most importantly in this case Cresselia. It does this because of its great typing, which makes it neutral/immune to both moves CM Cress runs and it's ability to punish Cresselia with Punishment (I'm good at puns n_n), which becomes more powerful as the target pokemon boosts its stats. Taunt also is an option, which is more reliable if they haven't started to set up as you can spam Sucker Punch freely and avoid Moonlight stalling.

Cresselia Psyshock vs. Skuntank: 0-0 (0 - 0%) -- aim for the horn next time

+1 0 SpA Cresselia Moonblast vs. 16 HP / 252 SpD Skuntank: 86-102 (24.5 - 29%) -- possible 5HKO after Black Sludge recovery
