[OU] 36 Styles of Death

[OU] 36 Styles of Death (Up to date)

Intro: Hey guys, well my last team started slowly failing more and more. So, I thought it was time for a change. The idea of this team is to soften up the opposing pokemon and then set up Tyranitar or Suicune in the late game to finish. So far its been working out awesome. But I have noticed a few problems. As of now, this team is a bit MixApe & Starmie weak. But usually I've been able to play around that for the most part. So, some suggestions for helping that problem are greatly appreciated, but I'd rather not swap out Tyranitar or Suicune as they are the core of this team. I called the team 36 Styles of Death as it has a good variety of moves to bring the pain, and is in reference to the Wu-Tang Clan, who are awesome btw. Anyway here's the team.

472Gliscor.png

BringDaRuckus (Gliscor) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Veil
EVs: 252 HP/36 Def/220 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Taunt
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Roost
---
Description: As of late I've been trying out a Gliscor lead with pretty good results. Gliscor has decent speed so he can taunt quite a bit of the common leads such as Metagross, Swampert, etc. Stealth Rock is always a great move, breaks sashes, etc. you know how it works. Earthquake is a good strong move it can 2HKO Lead Metagross occasionaly which is always helpful. I used to run U-turn > Roost, but the instant healing really helps Gliscor.

EVs: Max HP for good durability. 220 Spe Evs with a +spd nature outruns most Lucario and 176 spd +nature Jirachi. Rest into Def.

Nickname: Gliscor is nicknamed Bring Da Ruckus because he is the lead and he brings it. ;) Also the first song off of 36 Chambers.

Chessboxin (Latias) (F) @ Life Orb
Bag_Life_Orb_Sprite.png

Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Draco Meteor
- Surf
- Grass Knot
- Roost
---
Description: I originally had MixMence in this spot but my team was to MixApe weak. Latias makes a great Infernape counter, being able to counter basically every set well except for ones with U-turn is a big help. This guy kind of plays similar to MixMence because the main move here is Draco Meteor, but it is definitely not the wall breaker MixMence is. Draco Meteor as said earlier is the main move here, dealing massive damage to anything that doesn't resist it and even decent damage to things that do. Surf is a 2HKO on standard CB Scizor after Stealth Rock damage. Grass Knot is to hit Swampert without having to lower my SAtk by 2 stages and Roost is to heal off Life Orb Recoil. Roost was picked over Recover because I wanted to have a Latias with Roost. ;)

EVs: The EVs are once again simple. 252 SAtk for damage, 252 Spd to tie with other +Nature Base 110's such as Gengar and outrun everything below.

Nickname: At the beginning of the song Da Mystery of Chessboxin there is an audio clip from a movie that says "The game of chess, is like a swordfight
You must think first, before you move." and I thought it summed up Latias pretty good as it can rip through unprepared teams.

ProtectYaNeck (Scizor) (M) @ Choice Band
Bag_Choice_Band_Sprite.png

Ability: Technician
EVs: 244 HP/252 Atk/12 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Pursuit
- Superpower
---
Description: Choice Band Scizor is an extremely good revenge killer / powerhouse. Bullet Punch gets STAB, a Technician boost, and Priority, making it a great move on Scizor. U-turn can be used to scout for opposing Magnezones, or just to scout in general. Superpower is to hit Blissey & other things that are weak to it. Pursuit is also a really helpful move, trapping and killing certain Pokemon like Latias, Gengar, Celebi, etc.

EVs The Evs are pretty standard here. Max Atk for maximum killing potential, 12 Spd to outrun 8 Spd Scizor, and the rest into HP for survivability.

Nickname: Scizor is named after the song Protect Ya Neck because you best protect ya neck around him.

135.png

ShameOnANigga (Jolteon) @ Choice Specs
Bag_Choice_Specs_Sprite.png

Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 4 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Shadow Ball
- Signal Beam / Baton Pass
---
Description: Specs Jolt has been great to me so far. He helps out by taking out Vaporeon, Starmie, and Gyarados, which patches up some weaknesses. He can also revenge kill Infernape with Thunderbolt. HP [Ice] allows Jolt to check Gliscor, Salamence, etc. Shadow Ball hits the Rotom forms and Latias hard while Signal Beam is mostly filler but also gets a OHKO on Celebi which Shadow Ball can't.
*Considering Baton Pass for scouting purposes.

EVs: Nothing special about the Evs here max speed to outrun +1 Adamant Gyarados and everything below it. Max SAtk to deal out the most damage.

Nickname: Jolteon is named after the song Shame On A Nigga because most everyone hates when Jolteon comes in on a Gyarados or Starmie or whatever.

7th Chamber (Tyranitar) (M) @ Leftovers
Bag_Leftovers_Sprite.png

Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP/52 Atk/28 Spd/176 SAtk
Quiet nature (+SAtk, -Spd)
- Substitute
- Focus Punch
- Dark Pulse
- Flamethrower
---
Description: Well, here we have TyraniBoah. This thing is just awesome and I don't know why it hardly gets used. Force a switch, Sub up, and choose an attack. Focus Punch coming off of 134 Base Attack is gonna dent basically anything even with minimal EV investment. I chose Dark Pulse over Crunch for a couple of reasons, first, its helped along by the heavy SAtk EV investment, second, it hits most Rotom harder as they usually invest heavily into Def as opposed to SDef. Flamethrower is to hit whatever the other moves don't such as Skarmoy, Scizor, etc. This set is also awesome as it just completely destroys "SkarmBliss".

EVs: Evs are nagged straight from the analysis, 252 HP to set up meaty 101 HP Subs, 28 Spd is to outrun Blissey. 176 SAtk allows TyraniBoah to 2HKO Skarmory & Metagross, and also OHKOs Forretress & Scizor. The rest of the Evs are put into Atk to boost Focus Punch's power a bit.

Nickname: Tyranitar is nicknamed 7th Chamber because the song features 8 out of 9 Wu-tang members and Tyraniboah has good variety, and 7th Chamber is just a badass song just like Tyraniboah.

245.png

Suicune @ Leftovers
Bag_Leftovers_Sprite.png

Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 Spd
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Surf
- Calm Mind
- Sleep Talk
- Rest
---
Description: Well, this is standard CroCune. I previously ran Ice Beam over Sleep Talk, but Sleep Talk definitely helps with survivability and the opponents Pokemon usually can't do anything to Suicune in the later stages of the game anyway, as I hope to eliminate counters before hand. Suicune can also be used early - mid game as a check to threats like Gliscor, Tyranitar, etc. Surf is the move of choice here and will hit most everything hard after a couple Calm Minds, Calm Mind is obviously to boost stats, who would have thought? Rest is to recover any status / damage taken.

EVs: The Evs here are simple, 252 HP for durability, 252 Def to take physical hits as Suicunes SDef is constantly getting boosted, and I believe 4 Spd EVs outrun Blissey.

Nickname: Suicune is nicknamed Tearz because after he sets up it will bring imaginary tears to my opponent. ;)

And thats the team, enjoy!

On Scizor, you messed up the EVs a little bit. Take the four out of Atk, because with the standard HP, it gets minimal SR damage.

On Crocune, give it sleep talk. Your team can safely take out any Vaporeons, so after 6 CMs, survivability > coverage. A physical attacker can come in while you're asleep and 3KO with ease.

Regarding Magnezone, it does nothing on your team. Replacing it with Specs Jolteon will definitely benefit you. Go with HP ice over HP Grass for the KOs on Gliscor, Mence, Dragonite, and Flygon since your team won't have any ice moves after Ice Beam is hopefully removed.

Also, your team has a MASSIVE mixape weakness. If it catches your only counter (suicune) with a grass knot on the switch, it will 2KO, and then sweep your team. Magnezone can counter to an extent, but it cannot switch in to any attack. Plus, after seeing your team, they'll definitely keep their Mixape alive to ensure the 4KOs it will provide. Basically, the only thing you can do is force it out with a pokemon, and then hope that it switches into an attack that KOs it. I can't see much that will help you the weakness though :(

Basically, pray that they don't have a mixape with HP Ice, which is more common than you would believe.

In general though, I like the team!

Oh, and you should add nicknames since they're based off of Wu-Tang songs. That will add to the theme effect.

Hey, Thanks for the rate. :)

I'll change Scizor's EVs in a sec. Sleep Talk does sound pretty good as I havn't used Ice Beam as much as I thought I would. Your basically spot on about Magnezone, and he is being replaced with Specs Jolt.

About the MixApe weakness, maybe I downplayed it a bit in the intro ;). But, yeah hes a huge threat and I'm still thinking of what to do about it.

I'll add in the nicknames in a second, just didn't think Smogon needed another Wu-Tang theme team lol. But if you insist...

Ill do a bigger update tomorrow as its getting a bit late.

Hey, It actually is running Timid, I must not have deleted all of Magnezone's previous info. I'll edit it now. :)

On my Gliscor lead, I've found that roost works better than U-turn.
9/10 times, lead Metagross will explode after setting up SR.
However, Gliscor has the defenses to survive one explosion, so you can predict the explosion and use roost to heal off the damage.
Also, try yache berry on Gliscor instead of leftovers.
That way, you are guaranteed to survive an ice punch from Lucario.
Also, you could get rocks up on Swampert.

If you decide to use my suggestions, try using this EV spread for Gliscor:

252 HP, 40 Def, 216 Spe.
Jolly Nature

This way, you can out speed Lucario & survive a few stray hits.

Overall, this team isn't that bad.

Hey,

Thanks for the suggestions, I was actually thinking of throwing Yache Berry and Roost > U-turn on Gliscor. I've also been running Jolly lately to outspeed Jolly Luke and Lead non scarf Roserade. Since I'm not looking really looking to beat out Metagross, I'll go with your spread as it helps with his durability.

Thanks for the rate.

However, Gliscor has the defenses to survive one explosion, so you can predict the explosion and use roost to heal off the damage.

252 HP, 40 Def, 216 Spe.
Jolly Nature

With those EVs, only Scarf Metagross will outspeed you (of any Metagross.) ScarfGross cannot switch from SR -> Explosion and you cannot 'predict the explosion and roost to heal off the damage' as you are faster.

Just a few things here and there. I like the team overrall though. I don't understand why you would have any problem with Starmie with a CS Jolteon on your side. Actually...Mixape really shouldn't be a problem either with Specseon.

Those few things are actually just the HP-Grass on Jolteon. HP-Grass gives you coverage on the one thing that your team already can beat out without many issues; Swampert. Crocune is going to destroy any Swampert that dare to stand in your way. litlmc01 was right that HP-Ice is going to better suit this team. It hits all the pokemon you may end up having trouble with (Salamence, Gliscor, and Flygon).

Good Luck ;D

Hey Wobby,

Before I added Specs Jolt the team had Starmie problems. :) I also changed HP Grass to Ice on Jolt as Crocune does destroy pert. I need to do an edit, I'm just lazy.

EDIT: Made some updates.
