Team Purpose: To be proficient at both handling threats and dealing threats.
Team Comments: I started focusing a lot more on the art of battle than the art of team building before I built this team. It has done me well and made me appreciate more the power of balance. Given the amazing range of possibilities for a balanced yet threatening team I'm sure there is a bucket load of stuff that could be done to improve this team.

SUICUIDE LEAD / STEALTH ROCK / DUAL SCREEN
Azelf.png

Squid - 8
Azelf @ Light Clay
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Spe / 4 Def
Nature: Jolly (+Spe, -SpA)
-Reflect
-Light Screen
-Explosion
-Stealth Rock
Overview: I wanted a dual screen lead to give general support to the rest of the team and in particular certain members who could benefit like Crobat. If the opposing lead isn't going to be using an offensive move I will use Stealth Rock on turn one, followed by whichever screen will protect me from the attack I'm going to absorb. If I have time I will set up the other screen as well and then either explode or switch out (the latter is usually the better option.)

Physical Attacker / Flinch / Choice Band

Steel Fish
Jirachi @ Choice Band
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 80 HP / 252 Atk / 176 Spe
Nature: Jolly (+Spe, -SpA)
-Iron Head
-Fire Punch
-Thunder Punch
-U-turn
Overview: This thing, with a variety of resists and good overall stats, makes an excellent pick for a choice bander. Iron Head is both powerful and can flinch the opposition. My opponent usually doesn't expect to be hit this hard. U-turn is useful for scouting. In terms of resists Steel Fish only adds to my ground weaknesses, which are already well covered by many ground immunities. I find many opportunities to switch Steel Fish in and OHKO in return or start doing some damage with Iron Head. Good Tyranitar counter.

Nasty Plot / Special Sweeper
169.png

Castle Bat
Crobat (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Nature: Timid (+Spe, -Atk)
-Nasty Plot
-Sludge Bomb
-Heat Wave
-Hidden Power [Fighting]
Overview: This thing is a great counter to grass types. I will usually come in on something that can't do much to it and Nasty Plot on the switch, followed by a sweep. Blissey can be a problem for this Castle Bat though...even with Hidden Power [Fighting]. Heat Wave gives me a good weapon to counter steel types with, except some Heatran pokemon and Aligross.

Special Sweeper

Grandpa
Gengar (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Nature: Timid (+Spe, -Atk)
-Shadow Ball
-Focus Blast
-Thunder Bolt
-Hidden Power [Fire]
Overview: I've been using this on a few teams and it has rarely failed me. Grandpa counters so many different pokemon that I can often sweep more than 2 pokemon with it. Also I think every team should have a ghost pokemon if possible. Countering the Rotom forms is useful. Hidden Power [Fire] is my pick because it allows me to get many surprise kills, especially on Scizor. I have killed so many Scizor pokemon with this thing that it's sickening. Scizor seems to be a pretty common switch on Gengar so often times I just predict it. The only bad thing is I don't get the speed tie on Latias and Azelf but I haven't had much trouble with them.

Choice Scarf / Revenge Killer
latias.gif

Ace Pilot
Latias @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Nature: Modest (+SpA, -Atk)
-Draco Meteor
-Dragon Pulse
-Surf
-Trick
Overview: Well one time I made a team of 5 life orb sweepers, each with 4 attacking moves. It was an interesting experiment and basically I found that the team murdered save two weaknesses. Pokemon that were faster could sweep the team and pokemon that could use defensive boosts could outlast the team. I in particular had a hard time with choice scarf Latias so when I made this team I thought she would fit in nicely to revenge kill faster sweepers. Of course this is my confident counter to DD Salamence. DD Gyarados is a little troublesome but a nice Draco Meteor should do well, especially if stealth rock is up.

Swords Dance / Physical Sweeper
364989.jpg

Tyrant
Empoleon (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spe
Nature: Adamant (+Atk, -SpA)
-Swords Dance
-Drill Peck
-Aqua Jet
-Earthquake
Overview: I know it doesn't make any sense, but this thing works pretty good on my team. First of all it has great resists which allow it to be almost guaranteed a swords dance, especially with screens up. After that I can put a dent on the opposing team. Originally I had Waterfall over Drill Peck because I thought Drill Peck was a joke. For many games people would simply switch Celebi into this thing and then I would think, "Wow I can't do shit against grass pokemon with this thing." Lol well then I realized the purpose of Drill Peck! The only question is, Waterfall or Aqua Jet? I'm not really sure what I like better but I'm using Aqua Jet so I at least won't die to things like Gengar and the such. This thing has a few counters but does pretty good, especially later on. Oh, and Life Orb for more damage.

Quick Comment: I just noticed the 'Export Text' feature.

Advice would be appreciated. Comments are welcome.

I've been using Swords Dance Empoleon also and it's been doing miraculously well. The only difference is I've been using leftovers and Avalanche. I recommend keeping Aqua Jet because it definitely needs priority. Putting Avalanche over Drill Peck would help you kill Dragons and still hurt grasses so I'd recommend that as well. It's up to you if you want Life Orb or leftovers, while leftovers increases the survivability alot it often does not pack enough punch that life orb remedies to grant kos with 1 swords dance rather then 2.

For Gengar I think it would be smart to use sub to kill Scizors without aimlessly predicting.

Does Crobat really need all that speed? You could reallocate some evs to hp if you wanted or make it modest.

All right I'm going to test Empoleon with Avalanche. I've been keeping note of Life Orb vs. Leftovers in my games so I'll keep that in mind as I play and see which I think would be more useful in each game.

Substitute looks strong on Gengar. I'll try the Focus Punch variation so I can take out Blissey while I'm at it. I've never actually died to a Scizor using Gengar but now that I think about it I wonder why I haven't died to him. I might run a damage calculation.

Modest nature on Crobat would allow him to be outran by timid and jolly base 115 speed pokemon and I definitely wouldn't want that because there are lots of elemental attacks like ice beam and thunderbolt that'll make short work of the castle bat. Crobat might benefit from more HP because of stealth rock. I might add HP to him and maintain a 362 speed and see how it works out.

Thanks for the advice.

I just posted this on another RMT but it applies to you as well.
You could consider Changing you Azelf to an Uxie.
dpmfa480.png

Uxie@ Light Clay
252 HP / 180 Def / 76 Spe
~ Reflect
~ Light Screen
~ Memento
~ Stealth Rock / U-turn
Seen this work extermemly well, and in my opinion has something over just blowing up. You set up the screens, Admittedly a little slower but a lot more reliably due to his bulkyness. Now, you can either set up the rocks here or memento. While This doesnt cause any deaths, it causes switches. This gives you the chance to set up an SD with Empoleon, and do some early game destruction.

Hey Toby jezard! That was my RMT you recommended that Uxie for.

I like the idea of SD Empoleon, I've used it before. It's the same concept as Normal-typed Arceus, except obviously a lot more crap. I'd say keep Aqua Jet, even though it has trouble killing things when you're +6 :-) Avalanche > Drill Peck, it just simply owns harder.

On your Jirachi, I recommend Trick > Thunder Punch. While Thunder Punch is good for coverage, nothing beats the sheer awesome of trashing a set-up sweeper or wall. I prefer Scarf > Band, but you've got that power in Latias.

Apart from that, your team looks pretty good, best of luck!

Hi,

quite an original team here, just some notes:

1) I'd switch Latias and Gengar roles: Latias is your only safe switch into Heatran and Infernape, so she really needs recover, making her a calm-minder you'd earn a solid sweeper and a good check for the 2 aforementioned pokemons, so:

Latias@leftovers
nature: timid
EVs: 128 HP / 128 SpA / 252 Spe
-calm mind
-surf
-dragon pulse
-recover

and Gengar may be turned into a scarf-Gar, keeping the same moveset - maybe with just trick over hidden power [fire] and switching to a modest nature - for revenge killing purposes;

2) I'd give Jirachi zen headbutt over thunder punch: you're pretty weak to Rotom and you can 2hko it with a CB zen headbutt on the switch, assuming SR and considering the high flinch rate. Zen headbutt already hits hard bulky waters, and again, can flinch them;

3) you're quite weak to Blissey, she can stall 3 of your pokemons completely, and Empoleon needs at least 2 SD to scare her. I'd really suggest to try a Machamp there, a sleep talk variant seems ideal to counter both Blissey and TTar - you don't have a safe switch into TTar, btw. So:

Machamp@leftovers
nature: adamant
trait: no guard
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spe
-dyanmic punch
-stone edge
-rest
-sleep talk

This set ensures durability and a good status absorber.

Hope this helps.

GL!

I just want to say that I second the motion for Uxie > Azelf, it just seems like an obvious choice because of it's bulk. I've used Uxie a lot as a lead and it works great for setting up, although Taunters seem to ruin it, but anything setting up three things is susceptible to Taunt anyway. Memento will work wonders for either Empoleon or Crobat, whichever you feel is best for the situation.
