[OU] Generic Team

Hey guys, I've been trying to make an unpredictable OU team, and probably this looks horrendous.. That's why I want your personal opinion on it. D: Here's the team.

----------------------Team Start----------------------

What's the strategy you ask? Well, it's simple.. Try to cover all types possible, and try to cover every single set of moves to try to counter everything. But it's been barely impossible to win over OU teams with Pokémon like Scizor, Jirachi, Heatran, Landorus, Garchomp at times.. I mean, there's a lot of strategies that kill this out there. Not to mention Cloyster. If my Jolteon gets wiped out, it's over.

Houndoom (M) @ Life Orb Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 Atk Hasty Nature
- Fire Blast
- Nasty Plot
- Sucker Punch
- Hidden Power [Grass]

Houndoom is a really good Pokémon, IMO. It seems to be quite good when it comes countering Psychic Pokémon, and ontop of that, if they're steel like Jirachi, even better. But can't really rely on it at times, it seems to get easily pwned with stuff like Landorus and other Ground annoying Pokémon. Even with that Hidden Power, I can't really do much. It's too slow.

Jolteon (F) @ Leftovers Trait: Quick Feet
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Signal Beam / Thunder Wave
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Magnet Rise

The core of my team. Jolteon's the fastest Pokémon if we don't count Ninjask, Electrode or any other Deoxys. However, it struck me really hard seeing a Garchomp "overspeeding" my Jolteon. That doesn't matter, with that Magnet Rise and the Ice Hidden Power, I get a good trait for this Jolteon. I had Thunder Wave instead of Signal Beam, but the Signal Beam has been proving itself really useful.
350.gif

Milotic (F) @ Leftovers Trait: Marvel Scale
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SAtk Bold Nature
- Ice Beam
- Safeguard
- Scald
- Recover

Milotic's purpose was actually having a water Pokémon that guards me from status effects. With Safeguard, I've had the job properly done, as well as countering anything that is weak to water or ice. However, people come in with either way Ferrothorn or Gastrodon. And that immediately sets Milotic's boundary.

Serperior (M) @ Leftovers Trait: Overgrow
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd Timid Nature
- Calm Mind
- Aerial Ace
- Leech Seed
- Giga Drain

Serperior was supposed to be my Grass support, since it really offers a real good moveset. With the adition of Calm Mind, it actually became a really good Pokémon to use. It's one of the Pokémon that handles the most at the moment. Aerial Ace was a good option to surpass any kind of Fighting Pokémon.
248.gif

Tyranitar (M) @ Leftovers Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP Adamant Nature
- Stone Edge
- Brick Break
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake

Well, this one's obvious. No need to explain much, but it is based on Building up, and then just smashing anything that Rock, Ground and Earth moves can smash. Its max speed allows it to be faster than many opponent, and with the consequent Dragon Dance, even better.
385.gif

Jirachi @ Leftovers Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 SAtk / 224 HP / 32 Spd Modest Nature
- Calm Mind
- Substitute
- Thunderbolt
- Psychic

I had to find a good replacement to my Uber Team, that included only one Uber: Lugia. Else it would be considered OU. The thing is, Jirachi provided me with a lot more than just building up, recovering, and then smashing. It allowed me to resist various Pokémon, due to its Steel type. I had Baton Pass instead of Thunderbolt, but then again, Thunderbolt helped me out against other Steel type Pokémon just Scizor.

----------------------Team End----------------------

What I believe my team lacks, however, are Double-Types. But that's my hunch. I'd alike to ask you guys for suggestions, and if possible, a new team overall. Because this plainly sucks, but I like these Pokémon. D: Another thing I'd liek to know, is how to set up good teams, and what are the best turn-arounds for such area. I'm aspiring to be able to build great teams with good strategies, but need to think about something overall, in general. Tips would be appreciated! Anyway, thank you reading, and hope to find you around PS!

Haha, I was the guy who "overspeeded" your Jolteon with Garchomp, I Dragon Clawed as you went for Magnet Rise on the second or third turn.

Anyway, teambuilding. I would recommend that you replace Serperior with Celebi. It can run an identical set but with better stats and has the option to use Recover for more consistent healing than Leech Seed. Regardless of if you want to do that or not, get rid of Aerial Ace on Serperior for sure. If you are that concerned about Fighting types you might as well go for Hidden Power Flying as it has more power, uses Serperior's stronger attacking stat, is boosted by Calm Mind and hits (most) Fighting Pokémon on their weaker defensive stat. Although I'd still recommend just using Celebi and Psychic instead.

Hydreigon is an option over Houndoom. It's got better stats and takes care of the Psychic and Steel types you mentioned whilst also having an immunity to the Grounds you were struggling against. Also Draco Meteor means that you can deal massive damage to pretty much any switch in.

I'd also look at Ttar's set because there are just too many things that still outspeed and KO it after a DD, not to mention that it's weak to the most common priority in OU. You lack Stealth Rock so a set which includes that might be good.

Lastly on Jolteon, I would give it either a Life Orb or a Choice item seeing as it's too frail to benefit from Lefties greatly. Also Magnet Rise seems unlikely to get set up, and you're going to be beaten by a lot of Ground types anyway even with it.

Alternatively, you could just start over from scratch. You asked for general tips with teambuilding, and the best thing I think to get you started would be to pick a Pokémon you like, look at its article on Smogon (specifically the team comments bit) and then start building it up based on that. To be a bit blunt, Pokémon like Serperior, Houndoom, Milotic and Magnet Rise Jolteon aren't really viable in OU and if you read the articles on this website a bit more you'd realise that and you'd get a better idea of what works and what doesn't. Sorry if that sounds harsh but don't worry, most people were like that at some point too.

If you do want to try and keep improving this team though, here are some sets:

Hydreigon @ Expert Belt
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd / 4 HP
Mild Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Fire Blast
- Superpower
- Dark Pulse

Tyranitar @ Leftovers
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SDef / 4 Def
Sassy Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Pursuit
- Crunch
- Stone Edge

Celebi @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Giga Drain
- Psychic
- Nasty Plot
- Recover

Jolteon @ Choice Specs/ Life Orb
Trait: Volt Absorb
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Signal Beam
- Thunderbolt

Good luck!

Thank you for your feedback!

And I remember that battle, exactly why I started thinking my team was shitty, because that wasn't possible to a certain extent.. But then again, I forgot Dragon Claw had priority in that case.

I'll give those a shot, and then provide you some feedback with it. I was never really used to Gen3+ Pokémon, because I stopped playing on Pokémon Gold.. Just found Sceptile and Milotic good aditions due to their abilities. At first, I wanted to use Contrary on Serperior, which would make it superb. I used ot have Meganium and Dewgong, so you see what I mean.

About Hydreigon, it certainly looks interesting, and I'll give it a try. Tyranitar's set can be changed, yes, I used that because of my old set, as said. =P Celebi seems nice as well, but I want to keep it Celebiless for now. In the last case, I'll give it a try.

I'll post up my experiences soon, thank you again :D

I hope you have some luck with it, please do post back again once you've seen if it's any better and I'll be happy to help you develop it more.

On a side note, I wish Game Freak would hurry up and release Contrary Serperior, I want to give it a try.
